You are generalizing a group and saying we are all peace love and flower power. I know plenty of people including cops and some who have never smoked it that think it should be legalized.

You honestly sound like an ignorant pick on this one.

I think it should be legalized too.

    WTF are you crying about.

I choose to roll my eyes at the idea that it's some noble venture.

People like to get fucked up, I get it.

    Knock yourself out.

Whoever thinks it is a noble venture is an idiot. It's common sense

Whatever you were getting across I didn't pick up over the internet. My bad

  • Ok, diehard. I agree the military should drug test and you should not be smoking pot if you're enlisted. It's not just your life on the line and the man to the left and right need to rely on you.

There is a time and a place to smoke if you want to. If all you want to do is get high then you have a problem inside you. The problem there is not weed. You know there are people that have their lives torn apart from alchohol, heroine, cocaine, gambling, etc. The problem lies in the human and not the plant.

Fairweather, I don't know what the fuck you are talking about. I seriously was asking what's your point about marijuana plants being 10 time stronger now. And there are many lives shipwrecked by things much worse than marijuana as I listed above.

So both of you are probably asking, ok.. these problems are not terribly severe compared to other vices, bit why should we just make one more vice legal?

1 We are losing billions of dollars that are not going to Johnny pot dealer in college. Much of it goes back to the cartels that fuel violence on our southern border. That money could really be used in the United states right now.

2 The majority of Americans want it legalized. Consenting adults want what they want. If America wants to get high now and then why should that be denied? It is no different than having a few beers after a long day of work.

3 it would create jobs, revenue, further medical research, and an abundance of benefits that this country needs right now.

4 everything in moderation. While you may drink sometimes I'm guessing you don't get wasted every day. The same obviously goes for pot smoking.

While I'm not naive enough to think it is completely harmless and without consequence, the benefits outweigh those consequences.

Some of my posts are sarcasm which is hard to portray if you don't know the person. I think it should be legal, but not in the way they want to do it now. They should let anyone grow it and make a business vice just a couple of individuals who will then have a monopoly. Have government guidelines on the pot business, make the business qualify for a license and go for it. Also they need to provide security for the pot growers/sellers etc. The cartel will not be happy losing so much business I imagine.

  • The best argument for it in my opinion is by legalizing it you take money from the mexican drug cartels

  • Anyone arguing to keep it illegal needs to step back and apply their argument to alcohol and cigarettes. If it still applies, than they must be for making alcohol and cigarettes illegal too.

  • A. Alchohol doesn't affect other people via the smoke.

    B. Weed affects all the air around other people.

    C. Causes lung cancer.

    D. Ever heard of second-hand alchohol?

    E. Didn't think so.

    F. Should remain illegal.

    A. Alcohol can affect others...broken families, spousal and child abuse.

    B. Alcohol can affect others... does pot smoking kill 10k a year? Drunk driving does.

    C. Alcohol causes liver disease...who knows what else.

    D. Second hand alcohol yes!...when a drunk spills his drink on you!..or pukes all over the place lol!

How about second hand damage?..millions in property damage caused by drunk driving.

This is not to say I'm for the legalization of pot, but you have to admit that alcohol has had far more negative effects on society and to oneself than pot ever will.

But why exacerbate this abuse by allowing for the legalization of yet another drug.

  • ok Im stepping back out of the way from the big progressive legalize it steamroller....

    but dont call me uninformed...,.

  • I think somebody purposely disregarded cals point about second hand smoke.

If the Liberals in state and city government are so desperate to ban cigarette smoking because of secondhand smoke what's the difference?

Also you can't switch that to the amount of lives ruined by alcoholics that certainly do exist. I don't know how many people will have problems because they're fucked up all the time either. I do know some constant weed heads who are deadbeats. I do assume that some people are born to be deadbeats and the intoxicant of choice is an afterthought.

  • My only point in my belief it should be legal is libertarian at its base. You want to get high? Go ahead dude. None of my business. Try not to drive while you are fucked up and don't ask me, through my tax dollars, to support your stoned ass on welfare. Fair enough?

I think the difference is smoking is legal to do in some public places. Weed won't be. There won't be weed smoking patios either.

You won't have to walk through a mass a weed smokers when entering a building like you do now with smokers.

Possibly. It's not even legalized yet so we have no idea how they're going to set it up. Most places you can't drink a beer while walking down the street but you can smoke a cigarette. You can't smoke cigarettes indoors but depending on the rules you can smoke them on a patio. Of course the specific law says you can't if there's an umbrella or something overhead but those laws are usually overlooked. We will see. I don't care either way.

(Because I don't give a shit about secondhand smoke)

I suppose someone is going to need to invent a breathalyzer as a blood test for every stoned driver would be a little inconvenient.

Seeing how weed stays in your blood and urine for weeks, a simple breathalyzer will need to be invented for sure.

  • Also, some places you can't even walk down the street smoking, ie. Cleveland Clinic.

I see the smokers standing on the Fairview Bridge because they can't smoke on Clinic property.

That property includes a couple of streets near the Hospital.

  • It seems like to some on here legalizing weed = everyone, everywhere smoking weed at all times. I think most of us are talking about personal use on private property being legalized. Not walking down the street. No in a bar. Etc. Maybe "weed bars" will be a thing at some point here though.

Cal's point about second hand smoke, at is base, is kind of something that exists. I would imagine then that Cal is for banning cigars and cigarettes as well.

I just don't see how anyone could possibly rationalize being for the legal use of alcohol and cigarettes, but not weed. The only way I can see this happening is if you're knee deep in anti weed propaganda and turning a blind eye to everything else. Yes, that does describe some posters on here perfectly, but even some of them are saying they're for the legalization of weed. It just makes too much sense and there are a lot of benefits to be had from it.

  • Actually cigarettes and cigars are banned in just about any place where other people can smell the smoke. Which i think is stupid anyway but it is what it is...

Also nobody here is talking about how wonderful cigarettes are. Or booze for that matter.

  • PS. Weed bars will be tricky because part of the gripe about secondhand smoke is that servers bartenders management etc must be protected.

Right, but that same issue exists in bars where you are allowed to smoke.

Plus, there are ways to get the effects of weed without 2nd hand smoke.

If I'm not mistaken, they have cigar bars around town. And you can smoke in the tobacco stores.

Some part of the smoking ban allows for smoking in places that have a certain percentage of their incomes coming from tobacco. I believe the percentage is really high though

You aren't allowed to smoke in bars.

Technically not even on a patio if there's so much aso an umbrella.

Also I would imagine that smoking dope will be the preferred method.
