I don't doubt that the Browns are looking at all kinds of draft prospects for next year. That is what a scouting department is for. They are obviously also having a close look at Cardale Jones.....and Hackenberg, and Jared Goff and others.
-
So? Browns may have to sign another QB.....hey! How about Michael Vick? Errr, no, he is taken.
How about Rex Grossman......err no, he too is taken.
Who is out there? Jason Campbell? Burned that bridge
Tyler Thigpen.....wouldn't surprise me
Caleb Hanie....good for some jokes
Jordan Palmer?
Ryan Lindley....the worst QB ever
Matt Flynn?
Jake Locker....didn't he say he was retiring?
Devin Gardner? Better to switch Pryor back
Tajh Boyd? Steelers cut him loose
Tavaris Jackson....think he signed with Seahawks
Josh Johnson...may as well have Josh Cribbs.
Any other names?
John Skelton.....better off with Red.
So? Browns may have to sign another QB.....hey! How about Michael Vick? Errr, no, he is taken.
Well he's not gonna be on the team for long....just because Steeler fans demand he be booted off! Riiiight.
This is embarrassing....

I actually respect the inbred for that. Can't stand fucking Vick.
Actually, I still don't respect the inbred but it is a good effort by them.

Yea....well,you know what they say about GMs and coaches who listen to fans: you do it enough you will become one of them. (i.e. you will be fired)

How does a tender elbowed QB ever hope to survive the reps an NFL starter takes week in and week out?
How does a tender elbowed QB ever hope to survive the reps an NFL starter takes week in and week out?
Kind of the way 20 game winners survive overuse in the playoffs/world series. They take care of their arms between games. You know. Things like icing them down, multiple new therapies, etc.
I can't believe you of all people can think this is really a problem for him. He had it on occasion during training camps for college as well as sometimes between games.

C'mon man. This is serious, regardless of what the Browns are saying. There isn't any QB in the league that needs game experience more than Johnny and they're shutting him down? Over a week's rest?
This ain't baseball. This ain't good.

Pettine says it is not worth the risk for a "preseason" game. I tend to go with the HC on this one. Line up with the other chicken littles.

Not worth the "risk" ... note the red flag in front of your face.
Chicken Littles?
Immaturity on and off the field last year.
Unprepared to lead the team last year.
Awful in real league games.
Injured after a start and a half that produced 3 points.
Spent off-season in rehab and not on a football field.
Continues to play small ball on the field in preseason games.
Chronic elbow soreness shuts him down twice in preseason, misses the biggest preseason game of the year and a week and counting of rest.
We're not supposed to be concerned about our first round pick??
We need a fucking quarterback, Jism Breath, and everythng that happens with your boy chips away from the notion that we have one on the roster.
It's fucking frustrating.

If you don't recognize this as a big issue for an NFL QB, you should, because it is.

I don't remember ever hearing about a sore arm at A&M. I might just be forgetting, but a sore arm is worrisome. It's not like he has tons of time to get better or rest it. I hope you're right, though.

The baseball analogy does not hold.
At most, starting pitchers pitch-rest-throw-rest-pitch... a four-day rotation. More often today they go on a five-day rotation getting an added day's rest before their throwing day. And then there are "pitch counts". In the playoffs going on "short rest" means they move from their normal five to a four-day schedule. And at series' end sometimes "all hands on deck" calls mean they'll be asked to pitch on their throwing day.
By contrast NFL starters get one day off a week plus a light day on their final-practice/travel day. Normal practice days starters get upwards of 80% of the reps. So in pitcher terms the schedule would be: pitch-rest-throw-throw-throw-throw-throwlight-pitch.
Established QBs can and have taken second days off during the practice week. Developmental QBs can't afford to...
In that light a history of a problem cured by rest is an issue.

That you have such a February face,
So full of frost, of storm and cloudiness?”Guess from where it DOTH come.

What worries me about this situation is thinking back on other quarterbacks who are supposedly hurt and being held out of game play long past the time they seemed they felt ready to play. Quarterbacks one could assume not in good stead with the front office your coaching staff and who eventually disappeared.

Well, McCown is the starter anyways. I'm sure JFF will be ready and able by opening day.
