I exited on good terms after my contract was up. I was a Patriot Missile System Technician, which is a nice technical job. I rose up in rank, my job became micromanaging and babysitting 24 hours a day and SOMETIMES teaching my expertise. That's not really what i wanted, I could make way better money on the outside and still work for a military contractor (if i chose). Also, Patriot was made in the 60's. Great system, still works. The only reason its still around in the Army, though, is because they don't want to buy all new systems. There will be a day sometime where they throw it out. I want to work on something new, something more exciting. Traveling and deploying made keeping girlfriends a lose lose situation. In the end, great experience, happy I did it, love the people I worked with, but If I really wanted to enjoy life instead of suck it up for 13 more years I had to get out. I had good options, I got out.

Shooting for a degree in Aerospace Engineering. Would love to work for NASA or the like. Have connections in missile defense if things don't work out that way

  • Okay just curious. Retired military here. Making good money and glad I did.

  • Being eligible to retire after 20 ain't bad...

    I had to go 28 + 2 months + 23 days...

  • Jaws is the guy who said Manziel wouldn't be drafted in the 1st 3 rounds, wouldn't be a starter, and is now commenting on his improvement?

"All in all, I saw improvement."

    http://espn.go.com/espnradio/show/_/showId/mikeandmike/postId/13675762/video-highlights

This is the same guy who all the people that were against drafting Manziel were honking because of his negativity about the kid. Now he notes that he has seen improvement, and yet those same people are saying it isn't happening.

Full-on weird stuff happening. Larry/Hoorta is a lot smarter than I thought, because even though he was against the pick, he's not denying what is happening because of his ego. Can't believe I just wrote that.

Not that smart Mike. As you well know, I had my reasons. Primary one being dragging the Circus to town along with him- and Um that party reputation. Sure didn't like him tossing up jump balls to Evans, either. Plus I happen to be a believer in the Heisman jinx. Since 2000, 11 qbs have won the Heisman- the list of unqualified successes is mighty short. Carson Palmer and you can probably add Cam Newton to the list- though it's a tad early to say for sure. Bradford and RG III are hurtin' cowboys. Ruscillo & Kanel picked Sam as their "most likely to wind up on IR soon" list.

Johnny had an attitude and (apparent) lifestyle transplant in rehab- and I applaud him for that. It remains to be seen if he will ever develop into a great NFL qb- he deserves the chance to do so. I'm still concerned about that nagging elbow tendinitis, and as others have mentioned. he doesn't look like the sturdiest physical specimen out on the field.

Really- why would I ever want yet another Browns first round pick to flop- just so I could say "I told you so?"

    The TD Pass...

I originally thought it was a great read of a WR even with a DB ("If you're even, you're open") and a better throw to the outside that redirected a WR who was drifting towards the single-high Safety closing from the middle.

After further review I see a "WTF-an-INT-is-as-good-as-a-punt" throw on 3rd and 19. Crowmartie was tight to the line, but rather than press he almost immediately turned and ran two-yards in front of Benji matching him stride for stride for 10 yards. That's where he was as JM began his throw.

Crom was actually looking at JM as the throw began and slowed. Why? Don't know for sure... playing for the back shoulder? Expecting inside help? Forgot the down and distance? All? Regardless JM's shoulder angle said anything but "here come a hard low throw". What I do know is that there was no way to anticipate Crom slowing.

When Crom slowed, Benji broke to the inside making the outside the wrong side. Doesn't make it a bad play... it was 3rd and 19 after all... just does not make it the great play that I thought I saw originally.

It's incredible how many different ways one play can be looked at, depending on agenda.

Bill "qb guru" O'Brien just said starting Hoyer was mistake, FYI.

Funny enough when I watched that same play I saw a QB lock in on his first read, didn't look off the safety and pulled a Derek Anderson - one read wonder.

I saw the same thing Tour did. A QB that decided where he was going long before the ball was thrown. Lucky Crow was peaking, if not that's a pbu or int.

  • We all know there are many TV analysts that just hate Johnny - some for good reason, others, like dickbag Merrill Hoge, for who-knows-why.

Ron Jawarski has always been pretty critical. This morning on Mike n Mike, he said he liked what he saw, for the most part, from Johnny. This gave me some hope, and remembering it is his 4th NFL game, is refreshing to hear from someone who really knows the position.

If he just continues to improve, and gets rid of the huge mistake plays, there is hope.

Regardless of why - Hoge has been far more right than he's been wrong about Johnny.

  • Until the Browns play him a full season, the jury will stay out on whether he will be the QB for the Browns or not. He has two things to work on now the way I see it. #1 is ball security. And the other is the patience enough not to have to score every possession. The second for JM will be the hardest because he has had to score frequently his entire playing career. The best thing the Browns can do is fix this broken D. I did not like what I saw out there in game 1.

"An honest opinion many other people and analysts might share but we are not too sure Hoge should be the voice of reason on quarterbacks.

    1. Merril never played the position
    2. Merril believed Brian Brohm would be better than Aaron Rodgers"

It's not that I'm calling Hoge a great eye for talent at the QB position, he's be wrong before but at least he has owned that.

To date, there is little to indicated he'll be wrong about Manziel.

edit: Hoge wasn't wrong about Tebow either. How did Timmy fare after that defense carried his ass to the play offs

while asking him to make a play only here and there?

So the guy is 2 for 3, basically.

I agree but as long as McCown is the qb giving us the best chance to win we have to go with him. Regardless of the qb though the offense has to get their running backs gaining some yards and not depend on the qb's for a running game. Defense was a disappointment against the Jets and it will be interesting to see how they do this week. I'm betting we see much improvement.

  • Let's do it, Johnny.

Take the reigns and run with it, and bring some goddamn winning football to the lake again!

    Zombo

  • just don't fumble the reigns.

  • Seriously though, a big performance here, and there'll be question marks a plenty heading in to week 3.

  • And the JFF era begins.....

  • Did McCown not clear protocol?
