  • I'm more and more behind carson. I don't have a problem with him being an evangelical christian and him being a doctor speaks for his trustworthiness which many other candidates are lacking.

  • And Woody, it would be more valuable that the President of the United States be able to nail the soliloquy from King Lear than to drone on about thermodynamics. And I suspect you will agree with me even though you won't want to.

In the sense of winning an election? Being a good speaker/performer wins.

In a general ability to lead sense, I think a president with a strong analytic mind and problem solving abilities would be nice. Sure, you still need to speak and communicate, but I firmly believe its easier to be analytical and learn soft skills than vice versa.

But again, my problem with Carson is his willful ignorance. Not a trait I want in a president. The thermodynamics joke is just the latest on that front.

Well you'll have your choice between willful ignorance and just regular ignorance. I'd be surprised if the president has any more knowledge of thermodynamics than I do but I assume he or his handlers, are capable of selecting advisors that would have that knowledge should that subject ever be important enough for him to make a decision. Same as if you or I were president.

Don't get caught up on the thermodynamics part, lol. That's just to make fun of Carson. Think on a broader, problem solving, analytical skills level.

I'd rather have ignorance than willful ignorance. The latter I more dangerous in my opinion.

  • Where were all those problem solving skills when he was performing brain surgery? Oh wait.

  • Great leaders do not need to be geniuses.. although it helps. Their job is to inspire positivity within the country so we can go forward confidently and advance our civilization.

  • There is more to life than scientific analysis, Woody. People self-actualize in many, many

individual ways - they experience different things every day, every month/year...

you have to allow for people to believe things, based on their experiences in life,

that you don't, because you never experienced those experiences that they did.

It doesn't negate their beliefs....and you are a gallant defender of scientific explanation

for anything that exists, but you ridicule anything that science can't prove the existence of.

    http://www.str.org/articles/what-science-can-t-prove#.Vgq1SHpVgoI

  • Many scientific theories cannot be proven but are accepted as fact due to a mountain of evidence supporting it. Said mountain of evidence exists against the "the world is 6000 years old" argument. I understand where woody is coming from (I think..) and I could see where it would bother him. Don't let a scientific mind tunnel vision you woody. There is more to leading than that.

  • Refuting evidence on man-made global warming may be hazardous to future generations, though. Unfortunately most of the GOP field refutes that. I get we have bigger problems than that, but still shouldn't be ignored.

I don't like when somebody uses quasi science to justify their religious beliefs, though (a la, Carson).

I think Fiorina is way more dangerous than Carson, however. Rebuilt the sixth fleet (that's stronger than ever ATM), poland missile defense system.

Repeatedly defending her account of the PP videos and what they're doing - after what she said was determined to be wrong by a bajillion sources.

I don't really know how I feel about Carson as POTUS yet, but Fiorina I don't want any part of.

  • I understand. But emotionally, there's a mountain of evidence to me,

that it is impossible for me to have lived to see the sixth grade,

without the grace of God. Certainly, in the great universal scheme of things,

it makes no sense to someone else, because they didn't experience

    what I experienced.

would it be preferable, if Dr. Carson was an atheist, and explained his brilliant successes

and everything he experienced, on simple science and his "godlike" abilities in being a world-renowned

    great surgeon?

The Bible is an incredibly brilliant and complex work... and was not written in English, ya know.

And the divinely inspired writers wrote in the original books in Hebrew and Greek.

And, personally, I allow for them to have had limited scientific understanding in explaining

what they were trying to explain in said languages.

Just a reasonable article on the subject:

That's an excellent point. I would not be surprised if the doctor believes that praying to God can change things yet he is not a Christian Scientist by any stretch of the imagination.

Well at least that guy doesn't refute the earth is billions of years old.

There is no evidence a creation event happened 6000 years ago though, human fossils have been dated back to 150k years (carbon dating is wrong, fabricated evidence, etc.).

And I never said he didn't have problem solving skills. Again, he's choosing to be willfully ignorant. That is my issue with him.

So you're using "emotional evidence" while you rail against any viewpoint you disagree with as being an "emotional knee jerk"...

Believe what you want, as long as it doesn't affect me. If we had a president that ignores mountains of scientific evidence to support his religious believes, then it us very easy to see how that could affect me. "The bible says the end times are coming, so I'll go to war." "Science is wrong about the age of the earth, si it must be about climate change too." Etc.

I don't want any part if that as president.

  • Again - everybody has emotions. But liberals look at issues

TOTALLY based on emotion. That's how they elected the most corrupt,

unConstitutional, lying somebeech racist asswipe president in our country's history.

And my experiences are FACT. My emotional responses to them are just mine.

Were it not true, they would have, in the least, voted against Obamao the second time,

based on his performance and lies and scandals the first four years.

And making up statements that a Christian pres has never made is another example.

And that is fear-mongering - a label you libs slap on anybody who is concerned about

even very legitimate situations with this current corrupt buttock and moochelle Obamao regime.

And, why should I let an atheist affect me with THEIR decisions? Fearmonger that.

  • It depends on how the atheist is making those decisions.

  • ah, so it's okay for the rest of us to suffer unGodly decisions,

as long as you don't have to suffer Godly decisions.

that's the democratic caesar's pecker way of doing things...

  • No, you aren't following along.

I don't care whether the person making the decisions is Christian, Muslim, Atheist, etc. What is important is HOW they make their decision. I want a leader that gathers evidence and sources, looks through relevant data on the subject, and then takes a problem solving approach, with all of the facts considered, to make a decision. What I don't want is a leader actively ignoring sources of information that conflict with his personal beliefs. A leader that chooses to be ignorant to seem right.

The most prevalent example of that recently has been Carson and his creationist views. That is not the only situation where this concern is appropriate though. Get it?
