I see what you guys are saying, but I have a difficult time believing Gilbert is THAT bad. I mean, he was taken #8 overall, and many other teams, including the Steelers, coveted him. But I guess you all have to be right. I mean, if he was good...he'd be out there.

He's not......
Im too tired to go over "why" that is....again....but he's not.....

Richardson, Leaf, RG3, Gabbert, Ponder, Locker, Joeckel, Fisher, countless others taken pretty high in the draft, many were considered slam dunks and ranged from didn't work out to ball of flames.

I have a very bad feeling about tonight's game. This is an undefeated team, and they killed Johnny last year...

i have a bad feeling everyday. starts when you hit 50.
the game's outcome tonite will have no effect on that bad feeling, just the amount of the 'goose' taken out of the bottle. and then another bad feeling tomorrow.....win or lose.
i think we bust their ass tonite.

Or just a reflection of whose injured?....possibly?......
Or.....maybe we are putting Whitner, Hawkins, Harttline, Haden and McCown in a dumpster?
Referring to Bibbs and Bowe primarily.
Bowe was reportedly looking good in TC, crash and burn since then
Bibbs definitely looked better than anything I've seen from Housler, yet Housler was always active.
WTH is RB Glenn ?
They were supposedly high on this guy last year, he was injured in TC and was supposed to be back when Benji came back - still no sighting.
Desir vs Bademosi ?
I don't know.
I like Bademosi, but Desir has been okay and has better length.
Few others

Honestly, I don't know how someone could argue against your post. I mean, so what if they play worse? Does that mean we'll just lose by MORE points? At this point, who cares? We simply have to know if any of our first round talent can play ball. Maybe some of these guys are just "gamers", and don't do well in practice, but shine when the lights are on? Can anybody tell me with a straight face that Johnson Bademosi is a better cornerback than Justin Gilbert? I don't really think that Manziel can do any better than McCown, but I do think Johnny needs to be in the damn game to see where he is at. Maybe Johnny has a high ceiling that we don't know about? Perhaps his legs and ability to run the ball will help offset the constant pass rush, and maybe even *gasp* open up the running game for our backs? And do we really want to wait until training camp to see what we have in Erving?
When you are still in contention for a playoff spot, you don't give up and say screw it. The Browns still have a chance check the numbers.
The problem with playing Manizel if he sucks as bad as last year has two major effects.
1. You set him back further. He plays like crap because he isn't ready. They drafted him in the 1st round. If it take 3 years to get ready, guess what.... they have to wait. If it takes 4.... they have to wait. They screwed up picking him, now they have to do what it takes to get something out of him. This "See what we have" doesn't work for a guy in his second year, who had MAJOR issues last year, wasn't NFL ready and still isn't. Pet knows what he has, and its not an NFL QB yet.
2. When you play and get your ass kicked because you "Want to see what he has" the rest of the team regresses. Manizel going in and getting lit up like he did last year against the Bengals not only messes him up, but it screws the rest of the team. How much work is Duke going to get when JM goes in and goes 3 and out every time they get the ball? How much practice is Danny going to get playing 50 min. a game because the offense can't stay on the field. Gary B.? Benji? The issue is everything centers around the QB. Josh can run the offense better with broken ribs than Johnny can healthy. Putting Gilbert in might be ok, but if the team is hanging on in a game and the guy lets up two big bombs then the game is out of reach. CB isn't the best position to put a guy on an island either.

CB isn't the best position to put a guy on an island either.I've checked the playoff numbers previously- and they don't add up. As I posted elsewhere, does a team shop their Pro Bowl LT if they haven't already thrown in the towel on the season? The Browns have to essentially go 7-1 (or undefeated) against a much tougher schedule than they had in the previous 8 to even have an outside chance. I disagree about Josh- he's good- at not being good enough. Screw the stats. If you think the Browns can take the division- you're out of your mind. Bungles only need to play .500 the rest of the way to lock it up. They might even manage that if Dalton or AJ Green get hurt. Don't forget the Jets, Raiders, and Chargers already have tiebreakers against us if you're thinking wildcard.
Slightly off topic, but, for fuck's sake, can we please dispense with "the Browns still have
a chance to make the playoffs" talk? It's embarrassing. The only way this train wreck is
making the playoffs is if several team planes fall from the sky this weekend.
^ Thank you.

Manziel can prove a lot tonight with a solid performance. Cincy has a very good D and they lit him up last year. Even if the Browns lose if he is able to complete 60% for 200+ yards and more TDs than turnovers it will be a step in the right direction.

I was in Cincy last year for this game while on business. I was staying at the Crowne Plaza so headed down to the bar and barked while saying here kitty kitty to the pussy cat fans. Took quite a bit of shit until we started beating the hell out of them. Here kitty kitty and the barking just got louder and more obnoxious from me. I say tonight the stars align and we stomp there asses again.

Not sure if you heard them but I was stunned, they were basically that..... he's made some plays outside the pocket but we need him to stay in the pocket, you can't argue with his production but we need to calm him down.
And that was just after a 92 yard TD drive.
Second half we haven't moved the ball.

And Cincy keeps him in the pocket in the 2nd half....

You think Pettine had nothing to do with it at all?
Sorry those comments were very telling IMO

Actually I don't. Phil Simms, who I can't stand, said throughout the first half that Johnny likes his first read and then gets out of the pocket to make plays and Cincy needs to keep him in the pocket. Cincy is doing a great job of staying in formation and then closing the pocket instead of the first half when they overpursued, aka Browns defense.

He was saying that JM missed plays that could/should have been made from the pocket.

Johnny needs to stay in the pocket if he wants to play more than two to three games at a time.
Might be that Pet is trying to keep him alive so they can get some work In with him.
After starting him today, they basically said the season is over, so the only bright spot would be to keep him off of IR and get him this "see what we have" time.
Dude is still making one read then running in circles.

So I guess it's all Manziel's fault. The defense wasn't on the field in the second half. And the Bengals are a good team.

It's not all his fault any more than it was all McCowns fault as some tried to say so far this season. Johnny played fine. Looked pretty shaky in the 4th quarter when the game was pretty much over but overall..not all that bad and not all that great either. Didn't get a lot of help from his receivers in the 2nd half.
But to me..what the hell...let him keep playing and see what happens. I don't think he's the future but only one way to find out.
