Jonathan Paul Manziel

Johnny needs to stay in the pocket if he wants to play more than two to three games at a time.
Might be that Pet is trying to keep him alive so they can get some work In with him.
After starting him today, they basically said the season is over, so the only bright spot would be to keep him off of IR and get him this "see what we have" time.
Dude is still making one read then running in circles.

So I guess it's all Manziel's fault. The defense wasn't on the field in the second half. And the Bengals are a good team.

It's not all his fault any more than it was all McCowns fault as some tried to say so far this season. Johnny played fine. Looked pretty shaky in the 4th quarter when the game was pretty much over but overall..not all that bad and not all that great either. Didn't get a lot of help from his receivers in the 2nd half.
But to me..what the hell...let him keep playing and see what happens. I don't think he's the future but only one way to find out.

Post game commentary on NFL Network just crushed Pettine's comments. Faulk brought it up and basically said that keeping JM in the pocket is exactly what Cincy wanted, and they got it. JM was doing his thing, the thing that made him who he was at A&M, and Pettine is trying to force JM not to be Manziel. Fuck Pettine at this point in time.

Marshall Faulk and Rich Eisen are talking about Pettine's comments about keeping him in the pocket.
After a 92 yard drive, the longest since 2013, Pettine says he needs to make plays in the pocket. Just what Cincinnati wanted and guess what! We lost.
How could Pettine says something like that? Does he know football? His comments are mind blowing!

Why the fuck was Manziel drafted here if they're trying to completely change his game?

What are you talking about? Johnny was sacked ZERO times in the first half, when he was leaving the pocket.
Dumbass stupid Pettine made him stay in the pocket in the 2nd half and he got killed

If staying in the, pocket is so damn important then why is Josh McCown a broken battered man!

Opal, it's a matter of seeing plays... in or out of the pocket. A couple of the plays made after bailing were missed from in the pocket...
1. the pass to MJ; and
2. the TD to Duke.
You simply don't get hero points at this level for solving the crisis you create.

What's important, playing to win, or playing in the pocket? - Marshall Faulk (paraphrased).

Tour is right. Rolling out of the pocket is fine but not at the expense of missing a wide open receiver.. Pettine comments made sense. All that said, record means nothing at this point so just start Johnny the rest of the way and pray he improves...

His half time comments were completely back handed. I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

What the hell are you talking about. So sacks are the only hits that hurt according to you? How many times did he get drilled running for stupid shit? 3rd down and twelve, he runs for 10 and takes a helmet to helmet shot, then they punt anyway. Making one read spinning in a circle and getting planted as he throws it across the field into the endzone for what should have been a pick if Bowe didn't hold the guy. Etc, etc. it's one read, then pull it down and run for it.
If you must, Run the Duke Johnson type play a few times across the field and don't take a hit if you want to run.
Just like last year. Guy has a three game shelf left running around like its a college game. Ask RG3 how that worked out for him. When was the last time you watch Tom or Peyton run for it on third and long.
Marshall Faulk is talking about the second half of a football game he was forced to watch and trying to win one game. And that was after listening to a bunch of analysis make comments like "They shouldn't need to modify the offense for Johnny, the offense can score, and move the ball with Josh, Johnny needs to do the same"
Marshall Faulk isn't trying to evolve a NFL QB that wants to run around. The season is over folks. It's "time to see what we have" time. Doesn't work if he ends up on IR. But you guys are right, his strength is running around throwing it. That'll be good for 6-7 games a year. Austin Davis will finish the season after he gets popped on one wrong hit and then the Browns will be in the same shit they are in now. Draft or stick with this guy. Yeah! Can't wait. If your a Johnny fan, why do you want to see him getting popped doing stupid shit?
Oh and to the guy asking about McCown, the guy got slammed on for 3-4 games hanging in the pocket putting up more than 10 points a game and 300+ yards with a line that is playing like shit and no run game. Not running in garbage time or 3rd and long coming up short and getting slammed. He pulled that shit once in the Jets game... How did that work out? See him do it again?

^ don't ya know we're great at qb protection, damn worst in the NFL.

Agreed. Pettine is (like many Browns coaches before him) trying to force square pegs into round holes. MHO- Mike is digging his grave, and fast.

I was watching Eisen, Faulk, Irvin and had to agree. They compared Manziel's style to Russell Wilson and actually stuck up for him. They also stated that a lot of teams would use his talents and love to have him. Pettine has to make a decision going forward. Play him or trade him. Don't do what Cowher said and cut him. Teams like Dallas, Detroit, Chicago, Texas would be happy to develop his talents.Post game commentary on NFL Network just crushed Pettine's comments. Our defense did not keep us in the game and that's why we lost. On a short week I thought Manziel was fine. And the dropped passes didn't help. But he does bring a whole new dimension to the game and it's fun to watch.
De Filiipo should have stuck with Crowell and Johnson after the half also. Basically, we need more experience at the coaching level because you can't think we need 53 new players.

The positives:
- Energy - especially evident in barking out the playcall in the huddle.
- Command - see above, really took charge; not one delay of game.
- Mechanics - pretty solid... even on the run, but got into a back-foot mode for a bit in the 2nd half and most sailed high.
- Controlled - until the very end, when shots were mandatory, he never put the ball in danger.
- Poise - in-game and post-game in his presser... in the latter his self-evaluation seemed a great deal more objective than much of what is floating around here.
- Scrambling - yes, when called for, it's an asset..
- Bailing - ... but when scrambling is premature, it costs reads...
- Touch - all fast balls, a couple fed drops by players too close for fast balls, need to control the adrenaline.
- Missed reads - three of his best plays were throws on the run after bailing to the very players (MJ, Barn and Duke) he missed early while in the pocket.
JM was good and certainly better than a year ago by a mile, but still not anywhere good enough.

Well I guess so. At least Dwayne Bowe caught a pass. This is the first whole game I got to see. We can't get a football package unless you have a dish. Our condo doesn't allow dishes. So Red Zone is all I get usually. I love the Browns no matter what. Think Pettine is too critical and should just let Manziel play. The defense needs to get better but think it's the scheme. They were so much better last year before injuries. Other than that to quote Farmer "there is light at the end of the tunnel"
