They need to call in the national guard and go full Kent State on this campuses

I'm not getting into the debate whether or not college campus's should hold remembrances for 9/11...I frankly don't care if they do or don't.

You will get into the debate and you will like it.
Personally I think a public university (that receives heaps of state and federal dollars), like U of Minnesota, should recognize one of the biggest tragedies to happen to the US ever.
Never forget

Not an unfair point, at the same time this is why they give the student bodies that leeway. If the majority of students don't want to do it than that's called democracy. In any case, whether they do or don't nothing in any way shape or form necessitates bringing up Kent St, and I know you get that but OP.......man that dude is a sociopath. Bonafide legit now. Usually socio's though have a professional gatekeeper stationed strategically to intercept and proof read all outgoing communications.

Enough is enough.
Enough is enough.
Now send the same to the families of the people that lost someone on may 4th at Kent State. What a stupid fvcking thing to say....

Yea it's disgusting what Walter is suggesting, I just sort of ignored it and tried to go the path of what the discussion should have been.

I'm pretty even keeled, but do have some buttons... obviously Kent St is one.
I was on Kent St's campus the week before the murders... and they were murders. I was a HS Senior at the time and went there with a HS friend to hear Ralph Nader speak. She drove the hour or so route. She was dating a student there. and yes, Sue was hot...
It was a small gathering, at most 50 in all, held in a small café/ cafeteria on campus. Just folks seemingly sitting randomly around Nader spittin' the shit. No PA... few prepared remarks... mostly Q&A/ conversations... mostly on pollution... some on GM and the Corvair... some on "the war".
Probably half of what I just wrote would not stand up to scrutiny... the memories are that dim. But I vividly remember two things:
- Nader's comment on smoking: "Self pollution is the worst kind of pollution." and...
- the tension on campus was palpable.
On the latter the feeling was eerily overwhelming... some protest signs/sheets hanging from some windows. An almost complete absence of students outside despite a nice, late spring afternoon.
================================================================================================
Edit: Been telling this story forever. Finally wondered exactly how dim my memory was... Call it my nod to Ben Carson...
Anyway I googled "nader at kent state april 1970" for the details. Turns out I did not do too badly.
Nader spoke at Kent St. the evening of Wednesday, April 23, 1970. The Kent State protests started May 1, 1970 culminating in the four murders on May 4th.
Here's the funny part... my HS friend and I apparently unwittingly crashed Nader's press conference held the afternoon before he spoke because later that evening he apparently drew an overflow crowd of over 4000 to a campus gym. I never knew this.

This is the correct take
The thing Walter doesn't understand is you're allowed to have a different take like this algadi character - without being murdered like in the Kent state tragedy.
Thinking like Walter is un-American to the highest degree.
-
Walter is an ass hole, no doubt.
But the reason he pisses you off is because you kinda sorta agree with him. Come on tell me it wouldn't have been funny to see a baseball bat swing into that kid's face, the rotten little prick.
Imagine if someone would have taken everybody's favorite tragedy, Kent State, and praise the guard for eliminating four white people. You would want him drawn and quartered.

Gun down unarmed students going to class? sounds like the OP would like to have an Isis day too. It is kinda funny/sad how strongly his low IQ shines
-
well, walter's posts tend to validate being taken out of context at times,,,
then literally bad in context.
And Tour, I respect that you were there the week before. But that isn't when the killings occured.
Basing "murder" on the flower power environment a week before pretty much surprises me.
They were NOT murders. Dirbag trouble makers/hippies, some/many from out of town - we never saw them before
at any rally - incited a major confrontation... and they threw rocks. And...they were seen cleaning up
the rocks into burlap bags after everything happened, after the Commons were vacated.
And, a bunch of those rioters who wanted to make a national statement...are responsble for the accidental
shootings - although I believe it was one National Guardsman that was hit with a rock - that ended up
firing into the crowd.
The deaths are solely on the hands of the dirtbag, dangerous rioters. I was there, with friends, taking pictures
of the ROTC building that was burnt down. I took several pics of the National Guardsmen. We even talked to them -
they were cool, didn't say much....
That's arson, Tour. And throwing rocks?
I went to school at Kent after those riots - for two years. I knew some anti-war leaders - I sat in the old student union
one afternoon, talking to one of them a long time. He was devasted by the May 4th riots that got out of control the year before, that ended with the killings of four students. He resented the live ammo they had... but said the confrontation was never meant to
end up with the large group of students and outsiders targeting the Guardsmen.
Yeah, some of those who brought those bags of rocks, and were throwing them.... cleaned up the evidence to make the Nat. Guard look very guilty of oppression. It was self defense.
Here's a key point, there were somewhere around 21 Guardsmen at one location - if they had all fired on students,
there could easily have been 21 deaths "firing into the crowd" ...
-
On our way to my friend's socialogy class, we passed by the
old maintainance building... and one lone National Guardsman
was on duty there.
Several jeeps and trucks were parked in the lower parking lot behind him.
Two, really tall, really long haired hippie idiots walked up to him and got in
his face, and when he continued to ignore them, they bumped into him,
and he quietly retreated a step. They were giving him all sorts of crap,
and we walked over to put a stop to it....when one tried to put a few pieces of
gravel down his barrel, and the other was going to put a few dandelions with stems
down his rifle barrel, and the guy finally whipped his rifle around and pointed it at them,
and ordered them to back off. We just stood there, about 20 feet away by then, and they
walked away fast, laughing.
Poor protesters nothing. That was about two hours before the shootings.
-
I still have those pics, in my old box of photos. I never forwarded them to anyone,
for the simple reason that the pics were well before the deaths happened,
and about the ROTC that burned to the ground.....
that was Sat. night, I think. Way after the fact.

can always count on cal for the inept revisionist take on something that has long been settled, from all sides. But no!!! cal knows all!!

Revisionist? Seems like we've turned this tragedy into a fable already.can always count on cal for the inept revisionist take on something that has long been settled, from all sides. But no!!! cal knows all!!

How can it be revisionist when we were telling what really happened, ever since?
In 1973, I was in electronics training in Mississippi. A bunch of friends, including some
of them from the WAF squadron across the street, were having lunch one weekend..
and one of the newer guys went off when the subject got to Ohio, because I was, and
someone asked me about Kent State.
I was THERE on May 4, 1970.
He starts off saying that the National Guard were brutes, treating the students like
prisoners of war, beating them, etc etc etc. And the students rebelled against
getting beaten up, and the National Guard shot them for not shutting up.
That's what he said. I told everybody that that was a bunch of baloney. I told them the way
it really was, and he says that I'm a liar, because his cousin lived in Chillicothe, and he
told him all about it because he read a book on it.
I said that was a bunch of bs, and pulled out my Kent State ID card and told him he was lied to.
That was 1973. Today is 2015. You do the math, Cleve.
Liberals believe falsehoods are true, because it's politically expedient.
