  • It is official....just posted on the Browns site....

The Browns will move forward with Johnny Manzielicon-article-link.gif as their starting quarterback, coach Mike Pettine announced Tuesday.

Manziel has started three games this season, including the past two. On Sunday at Pittsburgh, he completed 33-of-45 passes for a career-high 372 yards and a touchdown. For the season, he’s completed nearly 60 percent of his throws for 933 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions. He’s also rushed for 90 yards.

Manziel takes over for Josh McCownicon-article-link.gif, who was sidelined the last two weeks with a rib injury. In seven starts, McCown completed 65 percent of his passes for 1,897 yards, 11 touchdowns and four interceptions.

The Browns have a bye this week and return to the field Monday, Nov. 30, against the Ravens at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Pettine and Manziel will address the media after Tuesday’s practice.

NOT what I have heard elsewhere. Pettine would deny that such a decision has been made.

That is probably the decision that should be made.....and may be made at some point........

......But it is NOT this day!

    No. It's this day.

Has the courage of Men failed? Apparently it is this day.

  • It's the right call and I'm glad Jimmy, er Mike, pulled the trigger.

  • It's because we totally suck and it makes sense at this time.

I figured by the bye week we would make the decision if we were out of contention - nothing against Josh of course, he gave a good effort on a bad team this year.

If Johnny can lead us to a 2-0 record against Baltimore this year that'd be a consolation price, and hopefully we can knock out Pitt playoff hopes in week 17 🙂

  • Yeah you have to see what he can do with the rest of the season. If he keeps up the positive play then we don't have to spend another draft pick ona QB. Get some more talent in here to help him out.

  • Plus, the next game is Monday night. Johnny will either light it up or crash and burn in front of millions...

  • I would expect the normal ups and downs with the ups getting better and the downs less of a dip as time on the field increases just like any new starting QB. At least you all now have a better understanding of how hard he tries when placed out there. It is still hard to imagine that he did not fall completely apart after that neck twister. No one would have blamed him for bailing early and often rather than hang in the rest of the day as he did.

And thank you Josh McCown for coming in her to be the tutor he really needed and the role model for what a QB and a man needs to be in the NFL. Immense respect for how he has handled all of this and done everything possible to get a younger player ready for this time knowing all the while he would be giving up the job. You played far better than any of us expected. And you are a real warrior. Hats off Josh!

Something tells me he lights it up.....and Im no Johnny lubber......

He seemed different in his pressy this week.....he's feeling it and is pumped up....all new body language and rapid fire answers to their questions.....

I think right NOW is the perfect time.....and the one they've been waiting for.....

It would be helpful if we don't get 180+ yards in penalties and drop passes in the end zone though 🙂

  • I gotta admit, this makes the final games pretty darn interesting. Hopefully he stays healthy and continues to improve, and who knows.... maybe the kid will end up being our guy after all.

Hopefully Jimmy, er Mike, makes the same types of decisions regarding Duke, Gilbert, Irving, ect...

Lot of time on his hands now it's bye week, lets hope his head is in a playbook and not downtown Cleveland!

It's a good decision to start Johnny.

Let's just hope the kid can stay off the 6 o'clock news.

Excellent post right here.....Josh did not lose this job(ala Hoyer, last year).....he's a baller and first class everything...

Yesterday he was talking about Johnny and how he was ready to be his back up, whenever that happened....so Im not surprised to hear this today, cause Josh kinda sounded like thats where it was going........he'll be a great back up....

I suspect he never leaves the facilities. He may be many things, but dummy isn't one of them. I think he really is starting to get it, not just fake it. All credit belongs to the OC, coach and especially Josh. Throw in those on the team who have had his back in the worst of times when the rest of us, me included, were about ready to cook his goose if drastic changes didn't occur.

  • hopefully Johnny plays well but we still lose cause I want a high draft pick this year. If johnny plays well he might up his trade value. I mean I like the kid and wouldn't mind if he stayed, but if Dallas see's him really playing well they might part with their 1st rounder for him. We might have to throw in another player but i'm fine with that, this whole damn team nearly can get firesale'd. Two high 1st round picks next year could change the team.

Let's not get too carried away, he's been named starter for 6 games, not won the superbowl!

Anyway, my head says "good call, let's see what he can do in a prime position, and evaluate at the end of the year whether we can move forward with him as starter, hopefully he shows progress" while my heart says "fuck yeah! here comes johnny football!"

HA!...Agree again.....cant believe he would even consider doing something dumb this week......fingers crossed but not really worried

  • There's also a good chance we see Mccown again by the end of the season cause I suspect JM might get hit a lot. I have zero faith our O line can keep our QB healthy for even half a season.
