  • There's also a good chance we see Mccown again by the end of the season cause I suspect JM might get hit a lot. I have zero faith our O line can keep our QB healthy for even half a season.

  • Josh is a great backup. He knows his role. That's where he is. He's old and on top of that he's hurt. We invested a first round pick in this guy and it's time for him to play. Not a half assed game here or there. It's time for him to start

And thank you Josh McCown for coming in her to be the tutor he really needed and the role model for what a QB and a man needs to be in the NFL. Immense respect for how he has handled all of this and done everything possible to get a younger player ready for this time knowing all the while he would be giving up the job. You played far better than any of us expected. And you are a real warrior. Hats off Josh!

Excellent post right here.....Josh did not lose this job(ala Hoyer, last year).....he's a baller and first class everything...

Yesterday he was talking about Johnny and how he was ready to be his back up, whenever that happened....so Im not surprised to hear this today, cause Josh kinda sounded like thats where it was going........he'll be a great back up....

If I were in the FO Josh would be given an additional 2 years more with the Browns on top of what they gave him already. He has given everything they asked and 100% more!! He is a great coach on the field too. He spent a ton of time on the sideline discussing everything with JM in between possessions when JM has been playing.

  • Can only echo the McCown posts above, his comments yesterday on the whole situation were so admirable. He's a tremendous teammate.

  • Here is Josh's interview from yesterday. I like what he says @ the 10 minute mark on in terms of what JM needs to do. I'm damn glad he is there to guide him through it.

Our OL is one of the best in the league (especially in pass pro), leave them alone 🙁

Their biggest issue is penalties as a unit, otherwise they're solid.

Hmmm...not sure I agree. Run blocking has been horrendous.

Running back and fullback have been horrendous. Play calling could also be a factor, but the OL is pretty good at run blocking too - but there's more to a run play than just those 5.

  • I will be reposting this in every single thread where someone asserts that the O line is terrible.

The O-line is the second best in the league.

The problem with the run game is not the O line.

If you think otherwise, you're objectively wrong. If being wrong is your thing, don't change!

If only there were other positions that were also involved in run blocking...

  • This is the correct decision imo and I think shows that Pettine can make the sorts of decisions which some doubted he could. And spot on TexasAG1969, great posts.

    PFF is garbage.

  • hopefully Johnny plays well but we still lose cause I want a high draft pick this year. If johnny plays well he might up his trade value. I mean I like the kid and wouldn't mind if he stayed, but if Dallas see's him really playing well they might part with their 1st rounder for him. We might have to throw in another player but i'm fine with that, this whole damn team nearly can get firesale'd. Two high 1st round picks next year could change the team.

No, they're playing the Ratbirds and need to win.

You've got zero backing that up. Your words mean nothing.

Unless and until you show something MORE accurate and MORE applicable than pff's methods, they are correct.

  • The OL is 5 guys. Many defensive fronts have at least 6 guys.

We have the worst full back in the NFL (1), Gary B has been uber reliable this year as a pass catcher but not so much as a blocker (2), Crowell either chooses the wrong hole or waits too long before choosing the right one and DJ has been OK (3) We give up on the run way too early in games (4)

At least 4 reasons other than the OL that we have a terrible run game.

  • @columbusking said:

Absolutely no reason why he shouldn't.

Agreed. I think this last game was the only game where the offensive line play was pretty bad overall. Other than that, they have been solid. Add to your list the playcalling. We only run when teams expect us to run, not a lot of draws.

    Zombo

  • We can't judge Manziel based on W-L record moving forward. Our QB play has been solid, despite our record. As a team, they are ranked:

12th in Yards per game (260.2)

    13th in Passing TDs (16)

    5th in INTs (6)

    11th in Passer Rating (92.9)

    12th in Yards per Attempt

He will have to continue that level of play while also passing the "eye test" by being able to make some plays out of the pocket. It will also help if he can stay healthy.

I'm glad they made this decision. It gives me a reason to watch...

  • It's the right call and I'm glad Jimmy, er Mike, pulled the trigger.

Must have been that street person telling Mike "play Johnny" when he stopped for gas. 🙂

I would expect the normal ups and downs with the ups getting better and the downs less of a dip as time on the field increases just like any new starting QB. At least you all now have a better understanding of how hard he tries when placed out there. It is still hard to imagine that he did not fall completely apart after that neck twister. No one would have blamed him for bailing early and often rather than hang in the rest of the day as he did.

Anyone heard yet if that Squeeler is gonna get fined? looked like a $50k infraction to me. If that had been Brady, it would be a suspension on top of it.

Ag, if you've been following my posts, I've been saying it was Johnny time for a couple of weeks.

They are so wildly inconsistent with their rankings that is why they are bullshit. I can come up with a system where I throw darts at numbers if that makes you feel better.
