“Technically, (Cam Erving) has no clue what he's doing." – LeCharles Bentley

He's been pancaked so many times that IHOP has asked for an endorsement commercial.

After reading the title of the article - I was surprised to see Bentley was bothered to read Erving is seen as a bust. Glad I read more than the subject heading.
Doesn't John Greco remind us some linemen aren't immediate to best football played? Mitch Schwartz?
Erving didn't draft himself in the first round. He doesn't have bad feet or agility IMO. He just has to play with better leverage/pad height as well as add strength and explosion. Even though he was converted from LT to Center on an ACC team, my guess is his best chance to succeed eventually is to get back to facing taller guys that only weigh between 250-270 pounds instead of shorter powerhouses that weigh about 330-350 pounds inside. That said, Joe Thomas is still making Pro Bowls so that chance isn't going to be here any time soon hopefully.
The REAL problem is this type of first round pick was a reach. I think Tour and others tried to point this out to us long before hind sight 20/20.

Very limited tape on him inside, Flugs, but he looked better than he did at LT where I ranked him 10th out of the 12 prospects I broke down.
I ended up having an issue with Erving being drafted where he was taken because I did not see him winning a starting job in 2015.

Me too.....I was all about getting an OLB edge rusher early......and Shag Thompson, Bud Dupree and Shane Ray were all still hanging around.....so when we tapped Erving, I was completely surprised....
I liked him for the second round(a lot!)....but, found a way to justify the pick at 19 and accept that we really needed OL help.....
But.....still.....

I agree that the high expectations aren't his fault, but they are however his problem. The Browns could've gone several different ways with that pick, and all of them better (so far) than picking a guy that is going to need several years to be just hopefully "solid"........ Hell, with the proper coaching and the proper self motivation in the player, as well as some God given physical talent, any UDF / 6th-7th round pick can develop into a "solid" player in only a few years.
Me? I want far more than just "solid" from the 1st round.

I don't blame you D. Me too! This was just an elastic reach we couldn't afford.
They could have also drafted Khalil Mack in lieu of Gilbert the year before. Last time I watched him play, Osweiler looked like he was wearing a silver and black 52 jersey every time he got up off the ground.

Yep, until we rebuild this team with quality parts, it will continue to be a 4-6 win machine, with the occasional 7 win miracle season every other leap year.

Not gonna be pretty when Mack leaves
And Schwartz , too!

It's a great pick if he's any good because the team must anticipate future free agents, problem is to this point he stinks.

Lets see how it pans out. don't judge it prematurely.
bitonio looks like a helluva pick though compared to cam.

Bitonio was terrible this year until he was put on IR

And he should take them up on their offer!!

I'm not an OL expert like you....so my definition of "looking better" is I didn't see him falling on his ass in the backfield over and over again.
Expert? Moi? Nah... just an aficionado. And it helps when no one steps on Erving's foot.
I do see potential in Cam. It's just that you don't draft OL potential in Rnd 1.

Buster Skrine got better every year. He worked on his game every offseason and studied game film to try to improve. Not that any of that will matter when the new regime comes in and they want to replace everyone with their own guys but still.....
It would be nice if Cam was that way.
