  • If you needed another reason to not shop at Wal Mart, here ya go. Stan Kroenke just screwed over a great sports city in St. Louis.

We know the pain of losing a team. I hope to God Haslam was one of the "no" votes.

    Not another reason needed.

  • My sympathy to the St. Louis fans. We all went through the same thing 20 years ago.

But they still have their Cardinals and that's their true love. They'll be OK.

    C'est la vie.

I don't know about that. They've lost 2 teams now, and it sounds like this Kroenke shmuck never really wanted to be in St. Louis after he bought the team.

It's certainly a great baseball town, but they love their football too. Screwed over by 2 owners NFL-wise, yikes.

    London,

you are basing your comment on an economical model that is way outdated. Over the past 25 years the NFL has expanded it's fan base exponentially, and the marketing, with social media is tremendously more potent than was the case back in those days. In case you haven't noticed, the NFL no longer fails financially at anything. They don't even lose in court when they are dead wrong.

LA football in the 21st century will be unlike anything the NFL has seen. It is an unbelievably large, attractive market that will capture the attention of fans everywhere.

LA football, this time around will be HUGE.

If they are smart................... they will not use the RAMS,/CHARGERS name.

    That's my two cents.

I don't know enough about it but what you say certainly makes sense, even if it was slightly patronising...

Listening to Jimmy, does he REALLY sound like he wants to be in Cleveland?

  • This is awesome news for me. The Rams were the only team that I wanted, as I hate the Raiders and the scummy gang bangers that wear their jerseys. I hoped the Chargers would stay in SD as that's where they belong.

Being a born and raised SoCal guy, I was a Rams fan as a little dude (when they were white and blue....... those unis were badass) and am glad to have them back.

He may not love the city, but he loves being one of 32 owners, and he knows he's stuck here until 2028 (per lease agreements).

  • Wasn't the fee to move around $550 million?

Times 2 split between 30 other owners.

    That's $18.3333333. Million per team

Of course they will never say no

Davis proved - a couple of times - that it really doesn't matter whether the League 'approves' a move, or not.

Greedy owners can milk one city/county/state all they want and - then - move if there are no binding obligations like lease agreements, etc.

And.................isn't the NFL classified as a 'non profit' entity. Who's zoomin' who? 'Zoomin' is a "proxy word" and the question is 100% rhetorical.

  • I grew up with the Rams in Los Angeles.. The Fearsome Foursome.. Roman Gabriel and all that.. I'm not a fan but deep inside, l feel like a small part of the world is right again..

  • I think it's a good a team is coming here (to LA). I think the chargers should stay in san diego though.

    Go browns

I'm not so sure Ghoolie about it being huge in LA, maybe, maybe not. There's certainly the $$ there to make it work. I think the bitch last time mainly was the old Colosseum is in a lousy area.

Regarding the Rams name- there's at least a history of them being in LA before. Of course they started as the Cleveland Rams- but that's before about anyone on this board is old enough to remember.

It's a damn shame. They also have the Blues, if you're into hockey. Sort of glad now my best friends daughter (lives in St. Louis) made a deal with her husband- the kids could be Cardinals fans for baseball, but they were going to be Browns fans for football. I'll have to send Jim a condolence on FaceBook.

With the cost of a new decent stadium running around $1 billion, you sure the other owners are going to be willing to take a $32 million per hit to keep Davis in Oakland? Unless they hit the Chargers & Rams with hundreds of millions in relocation penalties.

Owners are each pitching a mill into a PowerBall pool...

That jackpot is almost big enough for someone to buy himself a team.

Yeah I'd suggest you read the Wiki article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stan_Kroenke

As bad (maybe worse than) Modell. Wife is one of the Wal-Mart heirs. Pure carpetbagger. Fer sure, he just made himself a pile of money, as the Ram's franchise went up by a few hundred million in LA.

Can you bus Todd Gurley around? His hometown Tarboro, NC has 7 traffic lights, under 15 stop signs & the rest was dirt Paths. Poor Fella barely got his Drivers License here!!

  • 30-2 owners vote, wonder who the 2 were that were opposed?

Reports said Dee was there, not Jimmy.

Was Dee mistakenly scouting for a new owner?

  • I would have liked it better to see the NFL expand and add teams other than see San Diego and St. Louis lose their teams. I know how that feels. My early recollections of watching football was the "fearsome foursome" of the L.A. Rams and glad to see a large city like L.A. have football back (but 2?). Boom or bust. They go 20 years without a team and now get a couple of them.

  • I guess KC and Miami only two teams who voted against.

  • Rams moving immediately. Chargers have a year to negotiate to follow them. All very confusing if you ask me!

Based on what I heard, the Chargers would be second class citizens and at the behest of the flippant Kroenke.

Which I don't think they want. With the 100 million they will get from the league for stadium costs....hopefully they do something and stay in LA.

    Same with Raiders.

One team in LA is more than enough.

    I have more reasons.

The school where my daughter attends was also the school that Alice Walton attended. And that school ...of only 2500 students has over a billion dollars in endowment. (perhaps a lot of it donated by the Waltons..it is one of the highest per capita endowments in the country...for a non Ivy League school) But they are stingy as fucking hell with their money.

My son's school only has 1/5th the size endowment as my daughter's, but they gave him 4 times as much in grants compared to my daughter's. What does her school do instead? They make her take out piles and piles of student loans.......and guess who finances those loans for the school? The Walton family. So they profit from that...and they allow....or perhaps encourage the school to be uncommitted to meeting the financial needs of their students. That is a direct quote from from their financial aid office: "We are NOT committed to meeting the financial needs of our students". But they are committed to their image and their coffers.

On the other hand, Kenyon, my son's school has the opposite policy, written in: "We ARE committed to the financial needs of our students."

So, essentially that is the type of family you are dealing with. Unconcerned and uncaring about anything but the money in their pockets.

OK...but of course remember, St. Louis did to LA what LA is doing to them. So, I have a little less sympathy than perhaps I should.

But, of course it simply shows that it is the greed mongers who are in charge of the NFL.

OK, Rams should be in LA. Cardinals should be in St. Louis. Colts should be in Baltimore. Oilers should be in Houston. Arizona should have gotten an expansion team.

Indy....and Jacksonville......minor league towns where football is concerned IMO

  • By the way: the stupidest fucking thing about this is that the new LA stadium will NOT be ready for occupancy until 2019. So the Rams have to play in the LA Coliseum in 2016/2017/2018.

That would be like having a team playing still in old Muni. Stadium......or the Rubber Bowl for 3 years.
