I am leaning this way too but I wouldn't despise the Goff pick if the number crunchers decide it better to have a QB.

Bosa. About a surefire pick as you can get. As the Browns know since 99 finding the franchise qb is always a gamble, too hard to predict most of the time those qb's with college success who can be an NFL qb. I don't see how we could go wrong with Bosa.
-
Maybe this thread should change to 'if Bosa is taken #1 overall, who would you want?'

I really don't watch college FB so I know about Bosa and the top QB candidates only from skimming this board.
Echoing what Ghoolie said, I do believe the team needs to draft a QB every year until they find 'the one'.
However, I don't believe there are "NFL Franchise QBs" coming out of college every year. The best prospect in a particular year might be benefited by a relatively weak class.
Therefore, there is no urgent need - IMHO - to spend the #2 pick in the draft for a QB. Draft one later.
The team already has a Gary Danielson type on the roster and, maybe, he can play the role of mentor until the new guy on the block is ready to play.
Draft Bosa or play cat and mouse with other teams in the Top 10 who might want him and have valuable assets to move up.
What team(s), if any, have multiple First Round Picks?
Whether they draft a QB, Bosa, or do something else, this organization HAS to hit the nail on the head for a 'difference maker'. A skill player on either side of the ball.

I don't even know what these guys look like. I understand Goff is the more accurate pro-ready one and Lynch is kinda the prototype that needs some coaching up, if that's true then Goff is probably the leader in the clubhouse , but things change. I remember when Aaron Rodgers was the concensus #1 over Alex Smith, but by the time they over-analyzed them Smith went 1st and Rodgers in the mid 20's.
I'll probably get into the draft once we know who our Coach, staff and Personnel guy are going to be.
If one of these guys is truly a top ten grade then pick him at #2 and don't look back. I assume neither are deceptive midget drunks that can't learn a playbook or see over their linemen. So that's a step in the right direction.

There's a good argument to be made for a QB at the #2, but I can also make a very good argument against it. If our scouts absolutely LOVE a candidate, I'm ok with it. But we can't just take one because we need a franchise QB. I go back and forth, but right now I'm of the mind frame that our team has too many talent gaps, and there are several other players that could help us immediately. Especially if we lose 3/5 of our OL and Josh Gordon gets cut/traded. No matter what, I wouldn't have a problem with Bosa. The only issue I have with him is he APPEARS to be a better fit as a traditional 4-3 DE, and his transformation to OLB is far from guaranteed (I could be mistaken, I don't know him that well).
To answer the original question, I would prefer Goff at this time. He appears to be the more "NFL ready" guy, although that's up for debate. Both appear to take every single snap from the shotgun, and that tells us there will be a huge adjustment for both of them. Lynch has the eye-popping physical attributes that make many people go ga-ga, but Goff isn't exactly a slouch either, and appears to be the more natural thrower (to my eyes). Many get hung up on Goff's somewhat slight frame, but the kid is probably 21 years old, and will fill out more soon enough. I'm not sure either of these guys would be ready to start a season in 2016, but I guess that's why we have McCown. Not many better to learn from. Problem is, we absolutely need impact players, and waiting a season to see the #2 pick seems pretty rough.

I'm not a drunk, deceptive or irresponsible and have decades of excellent experience to draw on. Draft me. I can fail in a more effective way than any Browns QB since '99.

That Bosa guy has nothin' on me.

Well, we've been waiting a long time to see Gilbert, Mingo, Richardson and plenty of other top ten picks, so we have practice.

Neither were Brady Quinn, Brian Hoyer, Brandon Weeden, Jason Campbell, Charlie Frye, Josh McCown, Connor Shaw, Austin Davis or anybody else. Now shall we hearken back to the words of wisdom of Frank Morgan in The Wizard of Oz when he said : "But they've got one thing you haven't got; a price tag of the second pick of the NFL Draft!"Zombo said:

So I read up on Goff and it is really impressive what he did at Cal. His numbers got better every year and his team lifted up around him, going from 1-11 his freshman year to 8-5 this year with 64.5 accuracy, 4,719 yards and 8.9 YPA.
6'4, 210 ... I like it.
But even more impressive is his dad was an Expo.

That true, none of them were shits like Manziel. All good Cleveland Browns.
Nonetheless they aren't/weren't good enough.
And if you don't have a franchise QB ... you need one.
So try again.

I think even a decent QB significantly outweighs any D lineman (see Houston), so if any of the QBs in this draft fills the need, make sure you're in position to get him.
-
I've been raving about Goff more than any QB prospect we've had a chance at in nearly forever.
He's gotten better every year at Cal, but he also has the smarts, footwork, mechanics, accuracy, etc. to match. Best by far in this QB class at basically everything if you watch him from a technical standpoint.
Lynch is...OK.
Big slinger, I think he's a less athletic Kaepernick type of guy. Has a lot more problems out of the box than Goff, also has the fact he worked in a system that is pretty dumb by NFL standards. Lots of very simple reads or quick decisions, the type of systems you see the Brandon Weedens and Johnny Manziels come from.
Goff played primarily in a spread-type system too, but albeit a much more complex one. He actually had to change plays at the line, make much more complicated reads. Basically it gave Goff a lot more control over what was going to happen compared to the system Lynch was in.
Lynch might be worthy of a late first-round pick. I probably wouldn't touch him until the 2nd or later.
Goff is worth the #1 overall pick.

your opinion of Goff is much much higher than the consensus opinion of him currently. Which is that he is probably the top qb in the class(about 25-30% of experts still like lynch better) and will be a high first round pick, but that is due more to the fact that teams always push up the top qbs because of need. Both jameis and mariota were getting higher grades than Goff or Lynch. Goff is being graded right now as being much closer to a top 5 overall pick like a blake bortles than a luck or manning.
Not saying Goff won't turn out to be very good(or very poor...I have no idea), but there is definately not some consensus out there from the experts that he is a super duper elite qb prospect.

It's January, so let's give it some time. I think the hype train will start to build as more people watch film and study his game - also after he throws at the combine and such.
I'm not sure who is, but seems like to me everybody is saying Goff is the top prospect - anybody still saying Lynch is probably out of their mind anyway.
He has very few flaws, I haven't really seen anybody saying anything significantly bad about him other than "Utah!" - which was a bad game, but it's much worse on paper than it actually looks on film.
We just need a franchise guy who can be good for many years, not necessarily a Peyton or Luck.
Bortles is OK, but I don't think he's really comparable to Goff in terms of the type of prospect he was.
-
Bortles on the surface is more like Lynch - late riser, smaller school, high ceiling, low floor etc etc
-

That's all anyone needs to know. The Browns will buy it from there and waste another pick on an "ok" QB who gets us hyped up to take him instead of BPA.
"Hide behind the chainsaws" fools us every f'n time. "If you're in a horror movie (and we are) that's what you do."

Yeah they definitely screwed the pooch when they drafted the drunk brat from A&M.
