Nah- they had something like 86% sales on tickets- probably better than the Jaguars. St. Looie even offered Kroneke a new stadium- and I mentioned Edward Jones really isn't that bad. Goodell saying their plan was "inadequate" is pure BS. The NFL wanted a team back in LA at any and all costs. If you read some of the other stuff Kroneke is a sports mogul- had to divest several other pro teams just to become majority owner of the Rams. He's a worse carpetbagger than Modell. At least Artie's rationale can be 1\2 excused, he was going broke from bad business decisions- Stan craps money, and has a billionaire wife to boot. He saw he could increase the value of the Rams franchise by a couple hundred million just by moving back to LA.

Didn't St. Louis have like a 300 page proposal and basically everything prepared ready to go.

While Oakland had like 6 pages and absolutely no plan to do anything, but they stay in Oakland.

doesn't really make sense to me.

Not sure about that- but both the city of Saint Louis AND the State of Missouri were willing to do "whatever it takes" to keep the Rams. Kroneke essentially shit on them.

The Raiders will get compensated by the league to stay in Oakland and get a new stadium built in Oakland. The Chargers have been leaving SD for 14 years and the Rams owner has wanted out of St. Louis since the day he bought the team.

& if they move the Rams- I feel for the city- have friends there. Their owner is a complete jackass. The city and state offered to build a new stadium, and apparently that's not good enough. FWIW, I went to the Browns Rams game this past year, and really, there's nothing wrong with the current place. St Louis is more of a baseball town, just like Cincinnati.

If Oakland won't build a new stadium for the Raiders- move 'em to St Louis.

Sorry for the loss Hoorta. Was it you & your wife's Win Loss record that may have had something to do with shutting down the Edwards Jones Dome? What was her record their again? 😉 Hang in there!!

St. Louis was the closest of the 3 cities to having a viable plan to build a new stadium by far. SD was a distant 2nd and Oakland never really started the race. Kronke always wanted out of St. Louis and that's really the bottom line. Just like the Chargers owner wants out of SD because he's been waiting for a new stadium for 14 years. The Oakland owner is the only one in this process who didn't shit all over his city and fan base so it makes the most sense for him to stay from that standpoint.

By the way: the stupidest fucking thing about this is that the new LA stadium will NOT be ready for occupancy until 2019. So the Rams have to play in the LA Coliseum in 2016/2017/2018

That's the best part for me. I haven't seen, let alone been to the Coliseum in 20 years and can't wait to go back. I have many memories in that place, from the Rams beating the Vikes in overtime on Nolan Cromwel's fake field goal run, to Eric MetCalf's run to the left with 3 seconds on the clock to beat the Raiders.

But my biggest memories are when I raced moto-cross in that stadium from '83 to '86 as a young professional motoXer...... I can't wait to go back, and will see at least 2 games this year.

I understand the nostalgia. Its just that it is probably three levels below a viable NFL stadium, fair to say?

lol... I think I remember watching that. Didn't they pile dirt all the up the stands at the end where the arch is and use that for the start?

StL owner has the big checkbook... money trumps plans.

  • One other thing I am learning about the Rams owner: His teams are pretty much universally shitty.

He has owned the Denver Nuggets since 2000......and only once (2009)have they made it past the first round of the playoffs (note: everyone in the NBA makes the playoffs...so don't give him that much credit for that)

He became owner of the Colorado Avalanche NHL team in 2000 also.....they won the Stanley Cup that year (with primarily the previous owners people) While they had been somewhat competitive after that., they have won nothing nor appeared in the finals. But they are going down hill. They have made the playoffs only once in the last 6 years. Again, NHL, everyone makes the playoffs. Not the Avalanche.

He became the full time owner of the The Rams in 2010 and of course have not the playoffs since 2004...and have the worst record in the league during that time. Even worse than the Browns.

He has owned the MLS Colorado Rapids since 2004. They did win a championship in 2010.....but hey....its soccer!

So....I would not really expect great success for the Rams in LA given his track record.....but I suppose he will give it a bigger try than his usual. But if he doesn't win right away....those fickle fans in LA won't support this team.

If you needed another reason to not shop at Wal Mart, here ya go. Stan Kroenke just screwed over a great sports city in St. Louis.

We know the pain of losing a team. I hope to God Haslam was one of the "no" votes.

    I have more reasons.

The school where my daughter attends was also the school that Alice Walton attended. And that school ...of only 2500 students has over a billion dollars in endowment. (perhaps a lot of it donated by the Waltons..it is one of the highest per capita endowments in the country...for a non Ivy League school) But they are stingy as fucking hell with their money.

My son's school only has 1/5th the size endowment as my daughter's, but they gave him 4 times as much in grants compared to my daughter's. What does her school do instead? They make her take out piles and piles of student loans.......and guess who finances those loans for the school? The Walton family. So they profit from that...and they allow....or perhaps encourage the school to be uncommitted to meeting the financial needs of their students. That is a direct quote from from their financial aid office: "We are NOT committed to meeting the financial needs of our students". But they are committed to their image and their coffers.

On the other hand, Kenyon, my son's school has the opposite policy, written in: "We ARE committed to the financial needs of our students."

So, essentially that is the type of family you are dealing with. Unconcerned and uncaring about anything but the money in their pockets.

Too poor to pay for school, judge?

  • I feel sorry for st. Louis having been there before but honestly the rams have precedent in LA so it makes sense above all other teams

Yes, I am. Have you seen the cost of tuition? She goes to Trinity, not shitty Tex A&M.

Plus, fyi.....they charge 1100 a month for her to stay in a cubby hole. The school collects 4400 per month from the 4 girls that are in her ensuite unit (4 BRs and one bath). They could have rented the finest penthouse condo....or a nearby mansion for that price.

    This is indeed crazy.

Toledo forced you to stay in a dorm for at least 1 year if you weren't a commuter, no previous credits or some other criteria whatever.

Pretty much a closet with a community bathroom. Worst part is they put 2 people in one of those and charge somewhere in the ballpark of $3200 per semester per person which probably comes in the range of $700-800/mo per person. No kitchen in there so they also force you to buy a meal plan which costs a pretty penny too.

Pretty much went straight outta there to a 5 bedroom 4 (full) bathroom house with a huge lot on a dead end, 2 car garage, really nice and paid somewhere in the ballpark of $1500 (total, split by 5 people)

And that's a public school getting away with that kind of murder 😮

The more I find out about Kroneke, the less I like him. The guy is FROM Missouri- (Artie was a NY guy). St Louis offered $500 million to help build a new stadium, Stan said NO. Then he's turning around and building his $2 billion pleasure palace in LA with his own money. He got a nice F-you from the St Louis city council on his way out. Looks like Jerry Jones (not surprising) was the a-hole of the owners that was pushing for his crapping on St. Louis.

The only loss I feel is for the St Louis fans. (My HS friend and my other friend's daughter- both Browns fans) live there. Her husband happens to be a Rams fan, and is seriously POed about the situation. FWIW, my wife's record in St. Louis is 1-2. MHO is if any team was going to be allowed to move it should be the Raiders- Oakland isn't willing to get with the program the NFL demands a separate facility for football.

Don't get me started BB on the rip-off colleges do to their students. Thanks to outrageous housing fees, the University of Dayton has managed to buy up virtually every privately owned home within a mile of campus. BTW- what I paid for a semester of classes there in 1974 wouldn't even buy you one credit hour now. 🙁

Like I said, private school.....4200 per semester (4 months)....they collect this from 4 students. That is about $16,800. And yes, that does NOT include the board.
