Analytics and some dice tell me this draft is the one

The Browns Board

Yeah- you laid it out in even more detail Flugs. Don't know why I let Tom bait me with that BS- I fall for it far too often.

It's pretty simple- the Browns have sucked since 1999 because in general their drafts have sucked.

People enjoy your passion in here Larry whether they agree with your pov or not. We're not always going to be right about everything we post regardless of how much we think we are at the time. One of the things I like most about this board is people can challenge opinions using examples and do a really good job getting me to see where they are coming from. While I'm pretty set in my old school ways - I really like that there's some really knowledgeable/passionate fans in here that can do that. Sometimes when most of the media and Mary Kay's Cosmetics is focusing their/our attention on sky is falling bullshit - someone in here will whip out "hey, can you believe we're 7-4 in spite of a big injury volume" or "how about where Josh McCown is ranking on 3rd down efficiency/passer ratings" or "Gary Barnidge and Travis Benjamin are turning into pretty nice stories." Those are all examples of the ability in here to help us find our game faces regardless of the situation. We've got the best fans on the planet that can be found anywhere from the Pacific Coast to England to troops in the Middle East and all throughout Europe. How freakin cool is that?

These guys actually WATCH this team play and football in general instead of lost episodes of the Mandrell Sisters or the Hallmark Channel on Sundays. Most of them know how many Pro Football Championships and/or NFL Titles this team has participated in and won. They even know Otto Graham took this team to 10 consecutive Championship Title Games and won 7 of those in the place where the ingredients of the West Coast Offense were born and pioneered. How many other QBs have led their teams to 10 consecutive Championship Games beginning with their rookie season? Most of our fans also appreciated Kosar leading us to 3 AFC Championship Games especially considering what all QBs have done here before and after. The last time Kosar's offense had the ball in regulation vrs Denver - it got us a 7 point lead with 2 minutes to go with 98 yards standing between Denver's game tying score but aided heavily by the Prevent-a-win defense. Another time, a RB fumbled at the half yard line as we were about to put the game tying points on the board following a huge halftime deficit. Only the cubed root of ignorance sees our QB as the only problem. When Marty had no other choice but to open the game plans back up to how they were throughout the regular season, Kosar shined (ie; half 2 out in Denver). The last AFC team top beat the Buffalo Bills before they won 4 consecutive AFC Championships was our team QBed by Kosar. Marty couldn't even come closer to winning an AFC Championship with Joe Montana as his QB so was it ever the QB or the ass puckered conservative game plans Marty continued to prefer in post seasons? When Kosar won a National Championship as a freshman QB at the U when they were big underdogs to Nebraska, this wasn't just a game changer - it was a QB that transcended a college football program from the 7-6 record Jim Kelly had it at to a program that would later stockpile the first few rounds of many NFL drafts. What did that mean for us? Well, playoffs as early as his rookie year plus 3 AFC Championship appearances up against everything all other QBs have accomplished here before and after.

Some agendas in here aren't about this team, football or the common bond of it all. For example, the same agenda that says Joe Thomas is killing us used to need attention by announcing Bernie Kosar was killing us all throughout his best football days. Today, when Vag posts something absurd - those threads go on forever getting the most attention on the board (other than Manziel who is also controversial). Guess who's competing with that? We could all get more attention if we wanted to be controversial instead of talking about this team. I'd rather focus conversations more on the refreshingly new approach from the top of our organization and what draft prospects will be projecting in our draft slots this April.

    Flugs NAILED it.

  • damn. i wish we could pick the first ten of the top ten prospects but is that going to happen?

hell, even if the browns did, they would walk away knowing they only got one player out of the 10 that will last in the NFL longer than 3 years.

good point. i know if i played knowing now about all the concussion info and other injuries, i'd set a 3-4 yr limit myself. If a championship comes during that span, so be it but my family comes before fans and championships.

Agree with many of the above. I really look forward to see not only who we draft, but the reasons we do so and how they eventually contribute to a long overdue turnaround. Exciting days indeed and certainly more interesting than the way other teams approach it.

saw that as well. zeke and the giants make a lot of sense. hate to see him some where other than in a browns uni, but if anything, at least i'd get to see him play every week. when are the browns ever again put an emphasis on getting top notch talent at wr and rb?

this coming from a D first guy.

We tried that and picked Trent Richardson number 3 overall.

    Exactly Mark!

well guys we've tried that with almost every position and whiffed on them all since the 80s.

does that mean you stop trying?

we need a franchise qb. what do we do wait until the cherubs drop one in our laps? we need a powerhouse rb that doesn't get tripped up by a candy wrapper that blew on the field. we need a ten ton truck TE. a tall physical wr who can bulldoze and catch everything.

i've supported drafting D for the last 5 years and my posts will support that BUT god knows if we can't get someone on the offense that can get us more than one or two drives a game that are 3 and out then we are done for another season. hopefully someone will bloom from farmer's d heavy drafts in the last couple of years and you know HUE (poo poo). he'll want the QB and to think what we have on the roster to help him out skill wise on the O is already there then you don't know shit.

I was just giving you shit. I think its going to be a QB at #2 and unless we're going to count on Gordon, we need a WR as well. Not as concerned about TE.

what would be great is if we hit on more than one player in a 6 pick draft. (just used six as an example, don't know how many we'll have).

Thanks for the compliment Tom. (((()))) You're right- some people love to be contrarian, just to grab attention. Funny thing is- though Ghoolie can be a pain in the ass, he's often right. Of course it's easy to be right picking on guys like Crenell, Savage and a few others when the Browns have been a continual train wreck since 1999.

    @tour2ma said:

LOL, I can honestly say I've seen every minute of every Browns game since 1999. I have to admit it was sort of fun having my Sundays free in the Dark Years after Schmodel moved the team. Probably watched less than 20 hours of the NFL in those three years. I got a lot of long bike rides in on those nice fall weekend afternoons.

And to all Happy Super Sunday. As a Browns fan "Just one before I die." Gonna hang out with about 20 other wine and food fans at my pal's house. If it turns into a Carolina blowout- at least the food and booze will be good. LOL, I saw in the paper today- 30% of the people who tune into the game- those once a year NFL fans, see the SB as an entertainment event- not a game. 🙂

We don't quit trying Mik. When our entrusted front office can't get us any of those in spite of 2 first round draft picks (a few times), hefty draft volumes and a lot of spending money - we need a better front office. Working smarter is definitely applicable here; and I'm thankful Jimmy's ego is willing to admit mistakes so it's possible to correct them. As Yukon Cornelius once said before he arrived on the Island of Misfit Toys - LAND HO-OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

It's what Eddie DeBartolo had to do before he got everything aligned properly in SF. I just started a thread about him which cut and pasted an article about a successful business owner that had to learn from some early rookie mistakes as an owner before he became ready for an induction into the NFL HOF. I did that to remind us Jimmy looks to be working diligently on acknowledging his mistakes and correcting them.
