Not that we can be in trouble for "enabling", but falsifying an injury report.

Wouldn't the doctors that examined him have to be in on it too?

If he was drunk, just bench him again, and suspend him for a game ... I guess they were still trying to protect their #1 pick investment at that point, hoping he'd get clean in the offseason.

NFL could probably put the screws to Pettine and find out the truth now if they wanted too. And then dock the organization for something about lying about the injury. It never ends.

  • So what? A little hair of the dog so to speak.

  • sad. with the negative media, if they don't cover for him, they are throwing him under the bus.

but they did, trying to protect him from himself, and now they are complaining the Browns

    covered for him.

Somehow, this media garbage has to stop. A playoff team might help.

  • So if it turns out that he is cleared of these charges, shouldn't that change everyones opinion? Because there's a big difference between these two incidents and TMZ party pictures.

Also as mentioned before before or after the assault with a deadly weapon, the butcher knife?

Is that certain? Should we suspend without pay based upon these latest allegations, does that not pave the way to a dismissal without any further pay?

  • So if one of the Browns players ratted coach Pettine out by telling the ESPN hack the Johnny was actually drunk and the Browns lied I will assume that will bring down a load of shit on the organization. Any idea who the rat might be?

Who on the team would want to screw his teammates over like that?

Exactly....the Browns were the bad guys because they kept him on the bench and tried to discipline him.....and then the Browns were the bad guys by protecting and enabling him...cant have it both ways....

The biggest mistake the Browns made was to ignore the mountain of evidence available "before " the draft....So, by picking him, they sort of brought this on themselves...

Not sure what they're gonna do now....but if they keep him, they will be ridiculed for being stupid and if they cut him, they will be ridiculed for abandonning him in his time of need....continuing the lose-lose situation for the Browns....

Yes, Grossi reported it, and he asked Pettine about it ... and they flat out denied it.

Now a player reported it to a reporter at the Super Bowl and it's probably going to blow up.

Because as we all know ... it's not the crime, it's the cover up.

The Browns who were "so mean" to Johnny, disciplining him and benching him and asking him to be an adult ... are now probably ultimately be in trouble for covering up one of his last miscues.

As you say, Johnny was a lose/lose proposition for the organization. We look like horseshit no matter what we do.

Even the homeless guy that picked him has to be feeling some regret at this point.

Interestingly, the reporter is Mike Silver of the NFL Network ... owned by the NFL

You conspiracy theorists can have fun with that.

As far as the player ... Silver was at the SB and said he "talked to a Browns player yesterday" ... so, if by talking, he means face-to-face chat, you gotta look at the Browns who were there.

Dansby was there I believe. He likes to talk.

Not sure said player is a "rat", they may not have thought about the consequences to the Browns. Rat to Johnny though, yes.

    I vote Dansby.

BBedward posted the video above, looks like he is at SB. Mack would make a good rat since he has three paws out the door ... but that Dansby likes to talk ... and it was probably a defensive player, closer ranks with fellow offensive players.

All just speculation of course ... but what else is there to do in February?

Nah- if you've read any of the comments posted on some of the National websites, the sentiment of other fans is Manziel is now officially a bum, and the the Browns would be held in the same view as the Ravens were when they dumped Ray Rice. Or you can go back even further to Lawrence Phillips types.

  • MK reports the Browns are denying lying about Johnny.

They seem pretty firm about it, and NFL doesn't seem interested in exploring it.

    Also some added "suspects":

    http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2016/02/browns_say_johnny_manziel_did.html

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Browns said Tuesday a report by NFL Network's Mike Silver that they lied about Johnny Manziel's late-season concussion is false.

"Johnny Manziel came to our facility on the morning of December 30th and complained of concussion symptoms,'' the Browns said in a statement. "He was tested by an independent neurologist and entered the league's concussion protocol. He remained in the protocol until January 12th after being cleared by the independent neurologist."

Spokesman Peter John-Baptiste said the report the Browns lied about the concussion "is false.''

Silver reported Tuesday on NFL Network that he was told by a Browns player that Manziel showed up for work drunk the Wednesday before the Jan. 3 season finale against Pittsburgh, and that the Browns lied and said he was in the concussion protocol.

"I was with a Browns player yesterday,'' said Silver, who was at the Super Bowl all week. "Johnny Manziel, going into what would have been a start late in the season, showed up drunk at practice on a Wednesday. The Browns lied and said he was in the concussion protocol. Let me say this again: The Browns lied. To try to protect, and, what I would argue, enable, this irresponsible and very troubled young man."

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told cleveland.com: "Mike Silver doesn't work for the league office. We don't have any comment on his report. I would refer you to the Browns for any potential comment.''

Based on Aiello's comments, it seems the NFL is not currently looking into the matter.

Silver, incidentally, is close friends with Browns coach Hue Jackson, who was also at the Super Bowl all week, as were many Browns players. Jackson said he spoke with Joe Thomas, Alex Mack and Christian Kirksey among others at the Super Bowl.

Manziel did show up for work disheveled and out of sorts the Wednesday before the season finale, a league source told cleveland.com. He was sent to the trainer to be checked out and diagnosed later that day with a concussion by the independent neurologist.

On Thursday, he was ruled out of the game with the concussion; and on Saturday, he was spotted in Las Vegas wearing a blond wig and a fake mustache and going by the name of Billy, according to USA TODAY Sports.
