We've been asking the wrong question

Remember, though, that the Browns say analytics is just one part of the eval process.
I suppose analytics might have said Brady Quinn was the guy at that time.
Notre Dame improved each year. But if I'm picking, I'm picking a guy
who has the leadership, the maturity, can see the field in an instant
far more Bernie Kosar/Aaron Rodgers - brilliant, excellent leadership,
improviser, very, very tough, no fear, laughs at pressure...
I just don't see Goff as that kind of guy as much.
2006 Brady Quinn Sr. 13 10-3 AA, Unitas, Maxwell
2005 Brady Quinn Jr. 12 9-3 AA, Baugh
2004 Brady Quinn So. 12 6-6
2003 Brady Quinn Fr. 9 4-5

So, you are saying that Goff could = Quinn? My fear as well.

One part, but when that part says two very different things about the two top prospects at a position pulling a Brady Quinn example out of your ass is a poor rebuttal.
Ramsey seems like an odd alternative to me... no matter what roster moves have been made.

Analytic approaches go far beyond simply winning percentage. Watching Brady at Notre Dame, he was blessed to have Samardjia (spell check) and Stovalt at 6'5 each.
edit: Trying to think of whom NoD's Tight End was...? He played for the Chiefs for a while. Had to consult football rosters. Anthony Fasano.
Brady had some legit huge targets to throw to. Accuracy was always a concern I had in my mind and that played out in the NFL as well.

You are supposing that, but remember, they don't just look at the team's improvement, they look at the supporting cast. Did Quinn improve the team each year solely on his own shoulders like Goff did? I'd love to see the entire study by Healey so we could see where Quinn actually ranked. Unfortunately you have to be an ESPN Insider subscriber to see it. I CAN tell you Quinn wasn't ranked as high as Goff because they listed the top 10 guys from the study over the past 20 years and Quinn wasn't in the top 10.

Good point. I'm not saying Goff is a bust qb like Brady Quinn.
Maybe It's like Goff is more like Jimmy Clausen and Brady Quinn
in their lack of maturity and leadership. It's just a gut feeling when
I watch them interview. Wentz is brilliant, and a people magnet,
and his teammates love him.
just that the college won/loss improvement records don't mean much when
I'm thinkin qb for the NFL.
Tour had jawflappies - wrongo, Touro. On the simple point of "improved his teams
won/loss record over his college career"... It was kinda relevant.
I don't see Goff as being an inspiration on or off the field - nowhere near Wentz, maybe that is what it is.
I just don't see him as my pick for the face of a franchise.
It isn't just me - I have "trusting my gut" questions about Goff's maturity/personality/leadership...but
check it out:
I see Wentz as a lot like Aaron Rodgers on and off the field. I see Goff, the best pure passer, as a lot like Jimmy Clausen
on and off the field. Leadership/maturity - lacking. Wentz gets a Five Star rating in that.
-
Just what we need.....a Brady Quinn/Jimmy Clausen clone. Jesus, Mary and Joseph.

If we take Ramsey- he better be Patrick Peterson- Dion Sanders good.
My whim of the day says Goff- let the Niners jump us and take Wentz. Or if they take Goff, I'm OK with Wentz. I'm NOT cool with a trade down.
-
I'm with Larry -- no trade down. Take the QB. Either one. And I'm probably Ramsey's biggest fan here.
This year's Football Outsiders QB projections absolutely love California's Jared Goff, who now ranks among the top 10 QB prospects of the past two decades according to QBASE. It is a lot less excited about Carson Wentz, but that comes with a bit of a caveat: we had to try to incorporate FCS prospects into the system in order to project Wentz, and the same method would have underrated FCS prospect Joe Flacco. We'll write more about the Wentz and FCS issue in an expanded FO version of QBASE to run next week.
Interesting to see what the QBASE study says about Wentz this week.
Anyone have insider who can send me both?

I also liked this quote from McManamon's piece on the study, because I do like Prescott a lot:
The best of the rest: Dak Prescott of Mississippi State. He rates ahead of Paxton Lynch, Connor Cook and Christian Hackenberg. The study did not look atCardale Jones of Ohio State, probably because he did not play enough.

I really want the Browns to take Goff, I'm been on the Goff train since the offseason began. With that being said, having watched a good bit of FSU football the past few years Ramsey is a superstar in the making who would likely step in day one and be a starter. This team needs players at literally every position and as long as they fill holes with this draft it won't be a bust.

Trade down if you can stay in the top 8 or so and you get a lot to do it. If not, take Ramsey
-
What I want to happen: draft Goff
What I think will happen: trade down if there is a favorable deal presented.
I'm ready for the draft already...
-
I'm all in on Goff, still. The QB we've been searching for for 17 years is on the board - can't pass on him.
-
"Trade Down" presumes that an offer exists. The problem with this year's draft is that nobody in the top8 stands above the others like a Luck.
I don't support trading down.. because the trade down statement ASSUMES that the pick in round1 would be in the top8.. and I don't think any team in those slots is interested in shoveling more picks towards Cleveland to get a player that wouldn't be demonstrably better than the one they're already going to select.
The only team stupid enough to do that would have been the Dolphins.. and they traded their slot already.
