Stories like this may not make the national news because the officer survived the attack but it doesn't make it less horrific when the injuries paralyze an officer from the neck down destroying his life:
Ballwin officer shot in ambush paralyzed from the neck downBALLWIN, MO (KTVI)- Ballwin Police Officer Mike Flamion is paralyzed from the neck down after a being wounded in the line of duty during a traffic stop on July 8, 2016. On Monday, Ballwin Police Chief Kevin Scott reported that, though Officer Flamion is receiving excellent treatment for wounds to his neck, it is expected that he will require, " extensive long-term care."
A gunshot to the left side of his neck caused injuries to his spinal cord. Flamion remains on a ventilator and responds to questions with nods and tries to mouth words. Ballwin Police Chief Kevin Scott says, "He will forever be a Ballwin officer, no questions asked."
According to police, Flamion was shot from behind as he walked back to his car after stopping Antonio Taylor for speeding in the 300 block of New Ballwin Road. Taylor, 31, was arraigned Monday on charges of assault of a police officer, armed criminal action, and possessing a firearm as a felon.

designed to lead the officer into an ambush. why not?
why assume what you are assuming? read up on military strategy, for example.

Where does it say it was NOT planned as an ambush? Like, they led the cruiser into
