Why am I of the opinion that Frank Zappa is already in? No? If not...yes, certainly.
-
Man... whole lotta non-rockers in those lists... Barbara? Really?
Also one hit wonders... or one LP wonders (Alannis M.)... longevity has to account for something. But still plenty to choose from... actually hard to draw a line at 10...
- Yes - HTF are they not already in? Prolific, inventive, AOR pioneers...
- ELP - Ditto... the original power trio... filled stadiums... when stadium rock was new.
- Joe Cocker - HTF? Plus can throw in The Grease Band for good measure who put out a fine, Cockerless solo LP
- The Doobie Brothers - HTF?
- Jethro Tull - HTF?
- Little Feat- HTF?
- Supertramp - inventive, unusual, composers of rock... C'mon...
- Todd Rundgren - the man's a rock genius whether solo or with Utopia
- Humble Pie - studio work is good, but Rockin' the Philmore is great
- Iggy Pop - my punk nod... I bought Skull Ring on a lark... and to my surprise loved it...
- The Moody Blues - created a whole rock genre FFS...
- Mott the Hoople - even if on Bowie's coattails...
- Huey Lewis and the News - sounded like no other when they hit it big...
- Def Leppard - adapted to a one-armed drummer... and got better...
- Cyndi Lauper - for my daughter...
Worthy, but no room..
- Boston
- Robert Palmer
- The James Gang
- Loggins and Messina
- Peter Frampton
- War
- The J. Geils Band
- Nine Inch Nails
- Steppenwolf
- Johnny Rivers
Maybe someday...
- King Crimson - not prolific enough
- Roxy Music - love these guys, but an acquired taste...
- The Cars - prolific, but not impactful
- Journey - not really a fan
- Bon Jovi - popularity nod... points off for "Dead or Alive"
- Guess Who - not quite...
- Dire Straits - but not if Knofler is already in...
-

- What does HTF mean? Hard to Fathom?
- ELP - Ditto... the original power trio... filled stadiums... when stadium rock was new.
- I think Cream would be the original Power Trio.

- More for their influence than anything else.

- I acquired the taste early on.

HTF = How the Fuck...
Arguably right about Cream, but I think first "supergroup" more than power trio in their case.
ELP's use of synth over lead guitar raised the bar in my mind. Plus percussionist, Carl Palmer (he hated being called a drummer) brought more to the kit than Ginger... at least the Cream version of Ginger. Blind Faith? Closer call...
King Crimsom's Fripp popped up on projects all over including Bowie's Scary Monsters... another acquired taste. Other than him ELP's Greg Lake is the only other member I know of that emerged... but then he's the only other member I can name.
Side story: In the Court of's legendary gatefold artwork was faithfully reproduced freshman year at Case on the long interior walls of his suite by a guy named Chris something. End to end and floor to ceiling... one side on one wall, the other on the other... on the order of 8.5' by 14'. Even straight they were awesome...
Roxy was so cool. Brian Ferry's solo work... not so much, but had moments.
