Brilliant move. He decided not to put effort in trying to tackle the return man in Tampa Bay. Team played like crap as a whole. Hue's sending a message. If you don't want to put in 100%, you're gone. Don't care if you are a veteran, one of the best at your position. You're gone. Best part, is it's just a punter, so not like it's gonna impact the team all that much.

    The culture change is real.

Edit: I can't believe the Browns got a fourth round pick and a punter for Andy Lee and a seventh round pick. Holy crap lol.

Seems like we are going to need a punter pretty badly this season so it would be nice if the replacement is better not just more of a pet or cheaper.

I think the FO is......Hue?.....not so sure...

Watch his pressy.....read the words.....and you will see that he is not on the same page as sashi and, I think, is surprised and bummed by what has transpired since his hire...

Of course, he's not gonna say it directly....but it's pretty easy to see his demeanor and hear his words and know he was not prepared for this....

Heck...today he's says they have 2 days to find their next linebacker because his "starter" is no longer on the team....so Ogbah back to olb....but why was Hue calling Kruger "starter" and Ogbah a DE just a few days ago.....???????

I tell you why....cause he;s in the dark about what the FO is doing.....completely....

    Example?....from todays press conf....

On if the Browns have someone in particular in mind to play in Kruger’s position:

“We are working on that. That is what practice was for today to again make sure that we have the right people in the right spots. We will practice again tomorrow, and Thursday we will trot them out there and go at it.”

So...mini camp, training camp, 3 years of tape, and 3 preseason games and they just decided TODAY that Kruger was gone?.....and, IN ALL THIS TIME, have done NOTHING to prepare the next man up????....If Hue knew, then SOMEONE else woulda been playing OLB besides Kruger .......oh, I dont know, perhaps play OGBAH a few reps, eh?....since your "plan" was for him to be the OLB.....Oh, it wasnt your plan?.....what exactly was your plan Hue.....???

Here's another diddy from Hues pressy....

On what areas the Browns need to improve in most:

“Obviously, since we made several changes on defense, we want to keep on looking. I feel pretty good about where we are offensively. I just think we need to fine tune some things and get better at some things. Obviously, there was a starter that was removed from our defensive football team.

A starter "removed" from our defensive football team?....wtf does that mean???......To me, its sounds like a coach who is watching his player vanish without any prior notice or input. ......poof!

Watch the tape....he doesnt smile.....he looks uptight......he refuses to comment on certain things....keeps saying well play what we have....he's vague.....NONE of the normal HUE we've seen in every other pressy ever.....and that is because 1) he sees how bad we are after 3 games.....2) FO is making moves that he's not on board with.....

I remember watch Chud crumble as the season crumbled.....was a broken man(or coach) by years end....

Hues already showing strain and we haven't even started yet.....

    Bad bad bad

reading between the lines here but i wouldn't be surprised if this FO (if still here) does the trade down again AGAIN next year and drafts 5-6 LBs, none of which will be some super star blue chip the caliber of a khalil mack and once again NOT draft the QB.

I've been thinking the same and hope to God we are both wrong mik. If we have two top 5 picks we need to use them.

Could be. But his tone, to me, didn't sound like he was out of the loop.

So, if he's in the loop, he would know Kruger was in line for the first cut....right?

And, this is a fluid process....so they've certainly been grading players all along....not just this week, right?

And the Coach, KNOWING Kruger was gonna get cut and Ogbah would be the OLB, decides to start Kruger all 3 games and play Ogbah at DE only?....with no reps at OLB, even though he is the projected starter?......no reps at OLB during camp either?

    Pffft....

So, Ill make it simple.....either he's not in the loop, which is terrible.....OR......he is in the loop and they are just completely stupid and clueless...

    There. Understand?

OR, just a CRAZY option B here, they gave the veteran the benefit of the doubt to prove himself in the preseason and let him work to earn his roster spot. When he sucked major ass they cut him. Why would that be stupid and clueless? Literally a blow-up doll would be as effective as Kruger was for a long time. Not having a true replacement isn't some big deal-it's part of the process.

I swear, some of you guys should start making those conspiracy videos on Youtube.

  • Messages being sent right and left.

    Not buying any FO/Hue friction.

Des Bryant? Seem to remember his injury dictating Ogbah's move to DE...

If Horton and Co. burned any bridges, left themselves with limited OLB options, that's on them. It's not as if Krug's poor play snuck up on them overnite.

As for Lee... fits the pattern. On field impact may materialize... Standings impact will be nil...

Main one I am seeing is that our latest "players' coach" is more of a myway/highway dick...

  • @mudfly said:

Thats not true.....they never said they were stripping the roster bare of all highly paid/mature players.....and, just last week, Sashi went on record as saying the were NOT rebuilding and everything they do is in an effort to win....and they are playing to win now....

Lying sack of crap....(and a bad decision maker too)....

Embarrassing your growing" team and fans on a weekly basis is NOT how this team will get better or create a winning culture.....they are immersing all their new talent and rookies in a cesspool of shit......

I still think they plan on doing the Indianapolis version of "suck for Luck" to get the first pick in the draft.

Maybe we can call it "lose on for Deshaun".

    @canton-dawg said:

Face plant on the lawn for Deshaun???

    @mudfly said:

Im not down....I understand we needed to rebuild. But, now we need 40 guys....soo, next year we gonna draft 5 LB's?.....and the years after we gonna draft 5 QB"S????

So....RGiii is supposed to be the next guy....but lets say we draft a qb....so how does he play w/o a line? or a Defense....

Likely just one QB, but multiple LBs and still leaves 8-10 picks for other talent.

There should come a point around 2019 (give or take) when we will play the FA game. OL and LBs can be plentiful there.

  • LMAO.

Step away from the ledge guys!

We traded a punter for a fourth round pick ... And a punter!

A punter who is averaging 46 yards per boot in the preseason and is ten years younger than the guy we traded.

    Browns win all around.

    And Lee was a pussy.

You guys are fucking nuts with your conspiracy theories with Lee and Kruger. Fuck them.

We are a young team that just rebooted and we've already collected a thousand draft picks and Hue is taking out guys that don't fit his mold.

    What don't you get?

that's it and that's all, Browns saw an opportunity to get a good deal and they pulled the trigger. Did Andy's long punts even matter when the defense lets teams run on them at will anyway?

  • That 4th-rounder could turn into the next Seth DeValve!

They actually got a pretty good punter back in the trade. Lee was like 8th in the league, the guy they traded for 18th. (plus that 4th round pick)

  • We have not done well in converting on third downs and if that is the case when the season starts having a great punter becomes a big deal. It is always an asset to have a great punter but even more so with a team that might be punting often and probably many times in their own territory and deep in their own territory.

Lee's punts also have good hang time and if the special teams can get down the field and force fair catches that is huge in the field position game. With a defense that has been porous thus far you want to at least make the other team drive down the field as far as possible and not have a shortened field.

Hopefully the new punter will be pretty decent (and he is younger) and we did get a 4th rounder to boot so there is that...

The team won 3 games with Lee as the punter and all his assets of putting the other team deep in their own territory. 3 fucking games...so all of you who have your panties in a bunch over this think the team would've only won 1 or 2 games without the great Andy Lee punting? The team got younger and got a draft pick and it's just a fucking punter.

Look at how each party benefits:

    A. The Panthers get a punter that is very good at burying the opposition deep in their own territory. They went 15-1 last year.....but this still will help their defense.

    B. The Browns get a 4th round draft pick and a replacement punter...not as good, but adequate. More on this later.

    C. Andy Lee gets to go play with a Super Bowl contending team. He gets to go live where his family lives. No one can tell me that Andy Lee sees this as any kind of punishment, at all, for himself. He still gets paid his full salary...goes home...goes to a contender.

If he was being punished supposedly for dogging it, all I can say is that he must have thought that he should have dogged it earlier.

And here is what we have to look forward to taking with our 4th round pick. These are the guys taken in round 4 by the Browns since 2005:

    2005A Antonio Perkins

    2005B Isaac Sowells

    2006 Leon Williams

    2008 Beau Bell

    2009 Kaluka Maiava

    2011A Owen Marecic

    2011B Jordan Cameron

    2012 James Michael Johnson

    2013 Travis Benjamin

    2014 Pierre Desir

    2015A Vince Mayle

    2015B Ibrahim Campbell

We got a Pro Bowl TE in Cameron, a good punt returner in Benjamin....and perhaps a starting safety in Campbell. Otherwise pretty much crapola. Desir has yet to prove a thing though he is on the roster.

    Beyond that: detritus.

It will make a difference in the field position game but probably not in the final score but you can't put that on the punter. Working the field position game is what we ask of a punter.

I see both sides of this Gip and Mark...it looks like we did get a good return for Lee with a younger punter who looks to be a decent one and a 4th rounder. I thought at first it might have been a knee jerk reaction to Lee's pitiful non attempt to make a tackle on the punt return for a TD but I don't think that is the case now.

I think the team got younger, got a draft pick and also sent a message that if you play half ass, you aren't going to be on this team. Now, it can be said that the trade worked out the best for Lee, he goes to a contender and closer to home.

  • lol... from Terry Pluto's column:

    14. How about this? The Browns received a fourth-round pick for their punter. But the best they could do for Barkevious Mingo was a fifth-rounder from New England. Mingo was the No. 6 pick in the 2013 draft. I expect Patriots coach Bill Belichick will find a role for Mingo. The Boston Globe said it will be on special teams and as a "spot rusher."

Terry also mentions that per PFF a 4th round pick is the highest one traded for a Punter since 1994.

  • Nobody said a punter was gonna win us any games.....but watching the defense stop the team on 3rd down but still get a fg kicked on them cause of firld position is gonna get real old with u guys real quick.

  • It's not about the punter or the punter kicking 80 frickin yards or him not trying to make a tackle....it's about the flippant attitude of throwing out the only talent (which is sad i know) when there is absolutely none besides 2 guys that are on their down side of their career.

I'll tell u this, if brown and depoesta don't turn this around in 2 years every friggin person who believes in analytics will be burning those papers.

  • believe me this is not about a missed tackle. it's another 'move' that makes these guys seem relevant. these clowns are really pissing me off.

Yup,we gonna start over with young talent and pray it's good. Football, meet Money ball.

  • I still can't believe we got a 4th rounder and a perfectly good NFL punter with career in front of him for that pussy with his career largely behind him.
