Andy Lee Traded to Panthers
-
Hue came out and said Andy not trying to tackle the guy wasn't the reason he got sent packing. The reason he got traded was (only 1\2 kidding) Depodesta's aim is to have EVERY pick in the 2025 draft. LOL, he won't last that long. To your last point- Lee was clearly a better talent than what we got in return. Looks like the FO values future draft picks more than talent- or current wins. I tell ya Cal- this year it's "Dumpster Dive for DeShawn". Me & Mud are seeing it- (as well as Ghoolie). Eventually after 6-8 losses you'll come around to our POV.
Current wins were going to be few and far between anyway and so it should have not been confusing to anyone that they intended on stripping the team down to stock the shelves. The true test will be what they do with the draft picks. If they get all of those picks and screw them up then they will have their walking papers in 3-4 years.
Also, the Browns could be playing in the Super Bowl and Ghoolie would be badmouthing the team. The guy is a troll. At least I hope. If not, then he is a certified helmet head.

Im not sure Jimmah will be that patient.

By the way we keep reverting back to the understandable argument that we only won three games last year with the veteran players. Okay but isn't Hugh Jackson supposed to be a Hotshot coach? And Ray Horton? G-wiz aren't these guys a long shot better then Mike Pettine and Jim O'Neill?
So is it the coaching or the talent?

Guys like Mud, Mik, Tour, and myself weren't blaming Pettine & Co last year (we were in the minority). So is it the coaching or the talent?

Stevie Wonder could see that the team was nearly void of talent...and it's even going to be worse this year.

Correct....many that are NOW saying "we knew they were gonna tank the season", are the same guys that were screaming we had talent being wasted by bad coaches last year.....AND.....that Hue would immediately improve the team(by several wins too) , just based upon coaching.....then, add our hotshot new FO and a great draft and we're almost in playoffs.....
Now....suddenly.....it's "OH, we knew they were cutting all the vets and stripping the team and tanking the season....it was obvious".....blah blah blah

See above....agreed....but, now, suddenly we are the ones who didnt know.....sheesh....

If he was traded for lagging a tackle. Ask the steelers how they like their kickers making tackles?

As I said earlier in the thread- that wasn't the reason he got sent packing.

When the punter is your headline, your team is in the shitter.
To be fair he was a decent punter. And at least our media isn't talking about "Johnny Football" anymore.

I guarantee Lee's trade will always be mentioned by ESPN as being "solely because" he didn't lay out for the opportunity to bounce off some dude with a full head of steam. This is analogous to Kruger always being described as having "covered a lot" last season.
Never mind that this trade is the absolute best for a punter that we could have ever hoped for.
If we need to trade up for something, this will be part of the ammunition.
-
Yeah, he was a very good punter, but a fourth round pick is absolutely insane. We are stockpiling picks like crazy, and now we just need to use them correctly. The good news is, if RG III doesn't work out, we'll have a ton of ammunition needed to move up to grab one of the top prospects. If Deshawn Watson has the type of year many predict, I seriously doubt we'll be able to get him ONLY because so many different things would have to work out. For instance, a team that DOESN'T need a QB would have to own the first overall pick, AND we'd have to be willing to pay the exorbitant asking price. This regime appears more intent on gathering picks than trading them, but we'll see. I'd rather focus on this year and hope to the heavens that Robert is the guy we've been hoping for.

I have no fear that we won't get the first pick.
You'll know the first pick is in sight when Tour stops doing his OL analysis because he doesn't want to lose faith in humanity.

lol... I have to admit that my pain threshold is a factor...
On Lee... I was wondering if he was in a contract year, but he's not. He was, however, going to get much more expensive the next two seasons. Looks out of line with our current payroll and by the time we might "turn the corner" he be hitting FA.

I don't think those two things were mutually exclusive events though, at least IMO. I could see and knew well the team was devoid of talent but also believe Pettine was a weiner who lost control of the team. No point in arguing what's already done though.

On another note... watching Pats-Panthers replay and I saw our new punter make a tackle...

... of course it was after outkicking his coverage...
... and a whiff on his first attempt...
... but 2nd attempt = "tenacity"...
First punt was a gorgeous, high 61-yarder...

This team hasn't underachieved since Butch Davis.

Against the Bears one of the Browns punters had a 75 yard punt from deep in the end zone. The next punt was shanked for 19 yards. Who was punting?

Coons was also cut
MHO that was a questionable cut. Our new guy missed an easy FG game 4. A lot of Coons misses last year were due to blocks, unless the coaches thought he in general had a low trajectory on his kicks. Ah, to have old reliable Phil Dawson back. Of course, with our youth movement, he wouldn't fit the equation. FWIW, Phil passed Lou Groza the end of last year on the career points list.
-
I think it may have been more of a favor to Lee than a punishment. He is sent, as you say to where his family lives....and to a team that was just in the Super Bowl.
How is that a punishment for Lee?
Agents talk Gip. This was all over Brns & Carolina not offering up enough to Denver for P Brittion Colquitt..Than the Monte Hall let's make a deal begins..

Murray had 5 FGs of over 50 yards his one year with the Bucs, while Coons had everything over 46 yards blocked last year. I think Murray won because he has the longer leg and gets the ball up quicker. He was 20-24 with the Bucks, so he should be OK.
Glad I didn't buy the COON DAWG jersey.
