OK cool, so the new coach will just motivate his guys to tackle better? Get them super excited about executing the correct technique?

How about we bring in Tony Robbins as HC? That's got to be the answer, right?!

Now you might be on to something. Nothing else seems to work.

But the CBA does seem to keep a team down that desperately needs a lot of practice. If a new young team can't get extra practice time... It?

I agree that the CBA has an impact on the ability to improve. But how does that change with a new HC? And btw, our HC has basically nothing to do with our D (for better or worse), it's all Ray Horton's staff.

I believe the HC was in charge of hiring a coaching staff. I'm not gonna pretend to have the answers but I damn sure feel some sort of strong action is justified and nedded

  • How, exactly, is anyone precisely measuring "Effort" ? You mean like Austin Pasztor becoming better than Schwartz over the course of this season by putting in the time and.. the effort to get there?

Get this through your head: Effort is NOT the only thing standing between Browns and a victory - or even a good play.

You can't "coach up" or "scheme" around a team that simply lacks.NFL.talent at nearly every position on the field.

OK, Calhoun got beat - he didn't walk out there and say "This play I'll drop to my hook zone and then just tie my shoes for 10 seconds." He was UDFA for a reason. News flash: He WAS trying.. he just got beat.

You got that in a nutshell. The question is WHY did the FO decide to let the majority of the NFL caliber talent we did have last year walk, and replace it with unproven rookies\ FAs?

Mudfly did a pretty good job comparing who left with what we now have.

That would be the experienced, respected HC that could attract great coaching talent? 😉 (Blast from the recent past)

Yes, HCs, by and large, set their staffs. A good number of Hue's hires came in well-regarded... mostly on the O-side IIRC, e.g., Pep, Al Saunders, Hunter...

  • I think the offense is actually promising given the variables there. There's a lot of "signs of life" that can lead to me believe that might be a viable threat to be good in future years.

The defense? YEESH. They have objectively gotten worse which given how low they started really says a lot. Howard yesterday quite literally looked a dude who got lost on the way to the bathroom, somehow ended up in the locker room and was told he was the starting safety. Our two most seasoned defenders made a communication mistake that high school coaches would be screaming at their guys about. Our schemes look like they were drawn up by a 4th grader. The only guys on that side of the ball with viable "upside" at this point are Collins and Ogbah (maybe Kirksey). That includes the likes of Haden as well. I mean Jesus Christ fellas, we are 9 games into the season and guys don't even have the fundamentals to line up onside 3 FRIKING TIMES! That's not just bad, that's "how is this even possible" bad. The fact they look so much worse than at the start of the year is just really, really discouraging.

  • Lining up offsides is a pet peeve of mine... not just doing it, but the inconsistency of the calls.

I may do a screen shot later, but after Cooper's run of them we got the ball and the 'Boys RDE was a half a helmet offside and there was no call...

Yeah, it's clear the refs are looking for the Browns penalties in general more closely than other teams, at least IMO. I think it may be an almost subconscious thing of "they are so bad, they must be doing something wrong" type of scenario but still it's a tough break.

Don't know about that as I see it in non-Browns games as well. The superimposed, blue LOS makes it obvious.

Another pre-snap peeve (while we're on the subject) is the relaxing of the point of emphasis from a couple years ago that all the OL actually being on the LOS. The 'Boys and us did me proud with this yesterday.... straight as a ruler with only the Center slightly ahead.

Really gets messy when teams bow back there OTs and split WRs are on the LOS even with the Center and the slot is even with the OT on his side and the TE on the opposite side is even with his OT.

They're not called "pet peeves" for nothing...

You can't force someone to stay when they refuse to sign. If you do actually think you can force someone to stay when they want to leave... I feel sorry for the women you date.

    Pasztor > Schwartz

Mack didn't care what was offered

Gipson had a BOTTOM 10 PFF coverage grade in 2015.. wasn't worth the money. Yes, our S stink this year.. but Gipson isn't the solution to any problem.

So.. what, exactly, was Sashi supposed to do? He already had a replacement for Schwartz on the roster.. the other 2 weren't worth it.. and the rest of the roster is still a giant sucking sound..

  • Ok I'm all for defending the moves but Pasztor is not better than Schwartz, at least on planet earth.

  • They need time to build a roster. We kbew this coming in, and we still know it. Hue is doing just fine. His worst move was bringing back Horton. Talk to me in 2018 if there's still bo improvement. Until then, you're just bitching to bitch... like women

  • Not in pass pro at least.

Wondering if Elflien will somehow be available as a high day 2 pick. Right now a pass rusher, DB and Center are my top wants.

  • Over their entire careers.. maybe.

This year? Not true.. Look under Tour's post history, he quotes from an article about how Pasztor has this year finally learned how to pass block... and combine that with the fact that Paz has always been nearly unstoppable as a run blocker... voila, complete RT package. Schwartz? Pass pro yes, run block not so much.

have seen C-Elflien going as low as #47 & as high as # 62 in CBS. but hell yea we grab him at 33..Garrett or Allen TBD...Like Hooker or Jamal Adams from LSU with philly pick..Our Titians 2nd Rd. pick turning our way also..

  • I just hope we don't go out and get a pure edge rusher that can't hold the point against the run.

Paz has learned how to pass block in relative comparison to previous years. He still had struggled at times throughout this season. Is he Mitch's level at the same point in their careers? Maybe..

    Agree... "at the same point"...

Mitch was no roadgrader and the ZBS was not his thing either. He became an excellent pass protector over his 4 years here, bt at the start he was woeful.

Paz's improvement in Passpro in just this season has been nothing short of jaw-dropping... and he still has room to grow his kick-step. Run blocking? Just slap "CAT" on his helmet.

  • Tour, we still really need a state of the Browns post from you. At least give us a state of the OL post. I was unaware of Pasztor's improvement. But I find it hard to believe it's a mere two guys (assuming Joe, Greco, and Pasztor are good) causing all of this destruction in our backfield.

  • How about a line?

The state of the Browns is not good.

    Back on the OL....

With Bito out and Greco at Center our OG play has suffered. I wrote the other day that I did not understand putting Bailey at RG and Drango at LG. Seems exactly the opposite of where they've performed... or at least performed better than they did Sunday.

When Bito went down his first replacement was Bailey... and he looked decent. And Drango was working the left side as Joe's back up since preseason with Shon Coleman out.

Plus swapping them improves the experience balance of the OL.
