What Draft "Mistakes" Did You See?
-
Too early to tell. However, the most glaring for me was the trade the Bears made to move up one spot to draft a QB with limited experience. If the Browns made that trade I would be livid. Sure, there is a chance Trubisky turns out to be a hall of fame caliber player, but there's also a chance he turns out to be a dud or have one solid year and then nothing (RG3). Realistically, I think the Bears drafted someone who will sit on the bench behind Glennon for a season or two and sacrificed a ton of picks to do so.
I was upset when the Browns traded out of #12, I would have liked to have Malik Hooker but the trade they made did make sense. The Browns still got Peppers, and set themselves up for next season's draft so can't complain too much. It seems like this front office is really focused on rebuilding through the draft, lots of utilitarian choices and accumulating picks.

the bears lol
ross so high lol
the squealers not trading up to get peppers... who they hoped to draft with their first pick
they;ll regret that one for years
-
I wasn't a fan of the Browns trade back. We have passed on so many good players over the years by trading back. I thought the compensation we got was light moving back 13 spots. We should have gotten at least another pick in the 17 or 18 draft. I would have had Hooker or OJ Howard, or Allen there.

Hey, I've said a bunch of times Ghoolie is pretty OK- in person. Met him several times, and our resident musician West Side Steve has jammed with him. The difference is for me, sanity finally took over and I was 100% OK with Miles as the #1 pick. Hoped Trubs would fall to #5 where we could have swung a far more reasonable price than the Bears paid for Mitch. The Ghoolster wanted Mitch @ #1. BTW, can't remember who it was, but one of the media guys was in the 49ers draft room, sworn to secrecy until it was over. If we had taken Trubisky, there was no way in hell they were trading out of #2- they would have taken Garrett. Time will tell who made the right choice, us or the Bears. Myles DROY sounds good to me.

Bengals reaching for Ross...
The WR class was thin at the top, but deep in very good WRs. I get the 4.20 attraction, but it comes with a body catcher with an injury history. Plus if you take a WR that high, then you expect him to be, or at least grow into, a #1. They already have AJ and hard as I squint, I don't see a #1 in Ross.
Plus it's not as if Cinci does not have other needs.
Exactly Tour. That was a Bungle move for sure. They'll have two burners on the outside, and no offensive line to protect Dalton. Now Ross' agent claimed the injury history was exaggerated. Hard to do since that would have been gone over at the combine. Maybe Cinci figured taking one of the OTs @ #9 was a reach. Their defense is no great shakes anymore either. We'll see if Mixon can stay out of trouble too.

I predict we'll be picking at around #10 (our pick) and #14 (Texans' pick) next year in the 1st round. That, combined with our THREE second round picks is quite a haul, and that pretty much guarantees that we can get almost anybody we want.
I don't know...that would NOT likely get us THE QB if one of these guys in college is the real deal..and is projected to be a sure fire #1 overall pick, ala Andrew Luck or the like.
Exactly. Like I have said before, if there is a blue chip QB coming out you have to have the first pick. The second pick with five other picks won't get it done. Good thing for us, it's possible we have the first pick againI predict we'll be picking at around #10 (our pick) and #14 (Texans' pick) next year in the 1st round. At draft.night 2. round 3. Jumbo-tron Guy jumped the pick before announced. Back 2 Back.Falcons-Duke Riley & Saints-Alex Anzalone both flashed on screen before podium pick.(Opps,Buds were in Lite's). I still sit on cloud 9 on this draft. At my count we got 5 1st round picks with 1st round talent. one is a building block to next season. #5 Caleb Brantley. Huegottabelieve the Harvard boys know some Harvard abuse attorneys before picked. This story is already falling apart. SURPRISES-McCaffery to Carolina@8.... Adoree Jackson-to Tenn as high [email protected] Howard lasting to #19 to Bucs(what a fit uh)....Medicals might have got Hooker to 15 & Allen to 17. Buyer Beware maybe @12? For sure it was not Watson..time to let it go. With any luck keeping Healthy, we win some ballgames. Top 5 picks next season keeps us in reach of top 3 QB's. right now for all teams it all looks good on paper

I'll start with the most obvious (to me), and that's moving down from 12 to 25. Free Safety is a glaring hole on our roster, and we had the chance to take the best prospect at that position in years. Now, this is a trade that COULD end up going in our favor, but I'm not sure. We STILL have the hole at Free Safety, and Peppers can be viewed as somewhat of a gamble. True, ANY draft pick carries obvious risk, but selecting a player in the first round that doesn't enter the NFL with a verified position when you COULD'VE taken the best Free Safety in years? Risky to say the least. Yeah, it's great to have that extra first round pick next year, and it COULD be a lot higher than it was this year, but man...I just hope we didn't seriously screw ourselves.
I'm not trying to be negative, and I actually do like Peppers. However, I don't like him as much as Hooker, not even close. Gregg Williams is JUST the guy to work with Peppers (in my opinion), but having a ball-hawking safety on our team would've been JUST what we needed. Peppers isn't known to excel in coverage, and I feel like he's more of a project than anything. The ways this trade goes into our favor is for Peppers to be the player I envision in my head (lines up everywhere, blitzes the QB, stops the run, drops into coverage, etc), or if we use that pick next year to help get our QB. I predict we'll be picking at around #10 (our pick) and #14 (Texans' pick) next year in the 1st round. Hooker was the best FS prospect in years?

To me it's the Chiefs trading up to get Mahomes. I mean he's so raw he's such a reach in the first rd.
Also the 9ers. Trading up to get Foster then now finding out he won't play in his rookie year.
Also Peppers...ya hate me if you want but he's a tweener. Where does he fit in other than a player in STs
-
I guess the answer to this might not be clear for a while. If people here start talking about the rookie of the year candidates that we could have had instead of.....
But I think MG is safe.

Only disagreement with this and before the draft I would've agreed with you but now that Peppers is in Cleveland, you know who else was a tweener was Mathieu in Arizona and he's played pretty damn well in the NFL.

Good pickup Mark. I would not have thought of that, but very similar kind of player indeed. Hope our wolverine works out as well as their honey badger.

I agree.
I think we took an exciting prospect at 25 and I hope he pans out playing in the secondary....but we should've done better than Houston's late 1st round pick in 2018.

That COULD be a stretch, but I'm pretty sure it's not. There's obviously no way to know, but had he not been recovering from two surgeries, there's a good chance he goes MUCH higher. You don't often see FS go that high. Again, this is not scientific, but yes...I think he's the best FS prospect to come out in a while. If not at the top, he was up there.
And let me say that I desperately WANT the trade to work out, and I'm rooting for Peppers with all of my heart. As I said, I can definitely envision a scenario in which Peppers plays well for us and kind of creates his own position. I believe Gregg Williams is an excellent fit for someone like Peppers, as he has the imagination needed to see proper use of this physical specimen. However, don't be surprised if it takes Peppers a bit longer to come around. He has much to learn, and our coaches also have much to learn in regards to using him properly. I already love Peppers' attitude, fire, and demeanor, and I'm hoping it's contagious.

Hope so....I really only saw one game that he played (against OSU) and he wasn't all that impressive. But all reviews are that he loves the game and loves to play and that's a good start. I did like that he did the workouts at the combine with both the LB and the DB. Not sure I've heard of many others doing that.

I was so happy when honey badger fell to us in the 2013 draft, I was positive that we would take him.
Then..the browns select...Leon McFadden
