  • You don't see an economic rationale for this, Inspecta? Isn't the idea to keep people from having to cut back on spending (70% of the economy) when the economy is already in a serious recession?

Isn't that the reason why they pushed for extended unemployment insurance? Moody's estimates that every dollar spent on increased unemployment benefits increases economic activity by $1.63. Isn't that why this is a good idea?

As for food stamps, I don't think Obama changed anything, as food stamps are part of the farm bill and that was passed in 2008. It's simply a matter of more people qualifying because of the recession.

So again, I don't think much of this argument that what he's trying to do is buy votes. Or to use Rush's "logic", if we're talking about black people on welfare, and blacks all vote for Obama anyway, why does he need to buy their vote?

This is about economics, and helping Americans out in tough times. (Because we're a really rich country, and we don't need to let people go hungry here.)

Rush is either a racist idiot, or playing to an audience of racist idiots. I'm not sure which one is worse.

When I talk about a real RT, that is what i am talking about, though it looks like that inside swim move is going to work out.

  • Here's another conservative, Jerry Taylor, writing in the National Review today about this very subject.

"The question for conservatives is this: Do you want President Obama to succeed in painting the Republican party as the party of Rush Limbaugh? Given his sub-Nixon popularity figures, I can’t believe I’m causing a firestorm by suggesting the answer here is probably “no.”

"...when Limbaugh and/or Hannity argue in a manner that is not “good and right and just” (for instance, when Sean Hannity gives airtime without a discouraging word to someone who claims that Barack Obama is an deep-plant agent for Islamic terrorism), then at least backing away slowly is well worth doing."

  • Heck, the Dennis Kucinich of the board, surfaces from the mire.

Cherry picking quotes and attacking conservative talk show guys.

eh... has this been done before less than a MILLION FREAKIN TIMES?

But true to his spouting orders, he won't ever start a thread about

Nancy Piglosi lying about being briefed about the methods used

    to get info from terrorists.

    Nooooooope.

It must be hell only picking at the right, when the left is fodder for

the same intense scrutiny and you are afraid to eval the left because

you would be subject to the left's evil eyes.

    "BOO"

  • Don't you find it embarrassing that you've once again resorted to arguing that deep down I know you're right and I just can't admit it?

Seems that there's never a point when one couldn't trot that one out, including when one is on the losing side of every debate.

But seriously, who am I taking my marching orders from? I read a quote from Rush and I posted it here to get everyone's reaction. There's some sort of conspiracy behind this in your head?

You should probably relax. It's going to be okay.

Oh, and do you agree with Rush that Obama is purposefully tanking the economy in order to hand out government money to blacks on welfare?

I might if it weren't true.

Does it embarrass you to play a race card no matter what the issue?

That in fact some just can't accept a black man?

    It sould.

Seems that there's never a point when one couldn't trot that one out, including when one is on the losing side of every debate.

Sorry. There's an argument? You don't like Rush. It's the Dem plan to focus on him. I get it.

Oh you're just regurgitatin the Dem talking points we hear daily. It's not like you heard Rush say that and wanted to discuss it.

You should probably relax. It's going to be okay.

Yep. If we're lucky. Not as OK as it could be I suspect.

    It was OK under Bush.

But you cried and bitched every day.

Oh, and do you agree with Rush that Obama is purposefully tanking the economy in order to hand out government money to blacks on welfare?

    To everyone on welfare.

And not only on welfare, since those people are in the bag already, but bitter and envious people of all races.

As long as you blame the "rich man" for all your troubles big or small and remind them that only your party cares.

Most every coup, armed or not, begins with class envy and socialism.

(ps before you go into full bluster socialism means taking more from a small percent of producers to give to those who don't care to produce so much,)

One at a time since you have problems with multiple ideas.

Do you deny class envy was a big part of the Dem campaign?

    WSS

  • Yes, I do, Steve. Your opinions about what's really going on behind the scenes in the Democratic Party strategy sessions are beyond comical, your formulations beyond sophomoric, making them virtually impossible to agree with 98% of the time.

"Do you deny that Obama opposes wealth creation?"

The Democrats' plan was to campaign against the Bush tax policy, and to run on a platform of raising the top rates back to where they were under Clinton, while cutting income taxes for 95% of Americans. It was a plan for a slightly more progressive income tax than we had under Bush. It's not a plan for socialism, or for class envy.

    Mind-numbing.

I gotta work on that 2%.

"Do you deny that Obama opposes wealth creation?"

    Don't forget the follow up.

"Then why the anti business policies?

I might buy that spin but for the dozens if not hundreds of Democrat flacks repeating the same old lines about "Tax breaks for the rich" and "Bush's rich oil buddies" and "fat cat executives" (not to mention the treasure trove of free shit the "po people" would get from it)

And if I thought that those phantom tax breaks would either appear OR even come close to the loss of weallth through inflation and soaring prices.

    But I don't.

    Mind-numbing.

    Like I said.

  • Yes, I love this game. Bush's tax cuts funneled far more money to the well-off than they did to the middle class. Everyone acknowledges that, because it's just a fact. But you can't talk about that -- that's class warfare. Closing tax loopholes that were never supposed to be? Those are anti-business policies. Estate tax? Punishing "productive" people and giving the money to freeloaders.

Instead, let's focus on the real problem facing this country - lazy poor people and all the awesome free stuff they're getting, living high on the hog in subsidized housing, receiving food stamps. What a life.

Government by resentment. Wonderful priorities. Let's not try and do better by these people (by, say, extending health care benefits to all Americans, or trying to improve rural or inner-city schools) let's spend all our time snarling at them.

You're a perfect conception of what's wrong with the Republican Party - they no longer apply conservative solutions to common problems, they dismiss the problems entirely, instead wallowing in anger and provincialism.

Maybe one of these days you'll catch on that while you're supposedly taking Democrats to task for class resentment, you seethe with class resentment of your own. Just swap "rich" for "poor" and you might see the inherent flaw in your argument.

You don't mind class resentment at all. You just don't like it when it's aimed at the rich.

  • Inspecta, you're missing the point. It's not whether you personally paid less. I'm not arguing that. Bush cut taxes on everyone - of course you paid less.

My point is that someone in your tax bracket saw a much smaller tax benefit than someone in the top bracket.

I don't know how much you make, but my guess is that under Bush's 2004 cut you saw a benefit of about $980.

Meanwhile, the top one percent received an average tax cut of $40,990.

The well-off stood to gain far more under the Bush tax cuts than you did. That's just a fact. No one would dispute that.

As for the rest of what you wrote, I've got nothing to say about that. I don't really know what the point is. That thugs are less likely to get hired than a guy who is in a suit and a tie? That no one is responsible for their lot in life?

What does that have to do with health care and improving underperforming schools?

  • If you guys would indulge me for a second, could you all tell me how old you are? Just curious.

    I'm 35.

    True all around.

1% of ten is less than 1% of twenty. Thanks. I knew that.

Oh no Heck. Thats your take.

Sure the welfare state breeds resentment poverty and other social ills but it's a small amount of money. It's the cradle to grave socialism for every American except the ruling class.

    Government by resentment. Wonderful priorities.

It won an election for you.

Let's not try and do better by these people (by, say, extending health care benefits to all Americans, or trying to improve rural or inner-city schools) let's spend all our time snarling at them.

Yes you're right. Health care isn't enough fun to pay for.

Cars and stuff take priority until you're old.

    Screw paying for that.

Hey it sucks to pay for food electricity and beer too.

    Don't bogart that gas bill.

And darn if you didn't figure it out.

Inner city schools would be lots better if the NEA got a big raise.

You're a perfect conception of what's wrong with the Republican Party - they no longer apply conservative solutions to common problems, they dismiss the problems entirely, instead wallowing in anger and provincialism.

Really? How so? Even if it were so it's better than "blame the man" bit you play.

Maybe one of these days you'll catch on that while you're supposedly taking Democrats to task for class resentment, you seethe with class resentment of your own. Just swap "rich" for "poor" and you might see the inherent flaw in your argument.

    Hey seething's better than teeming.

    But two points.

First you're right BUT welfare isn't a big chunk of cash. I have no problem taking care of the needy. But when you have to take care of the bums too the needy lose out.

(And we weren't talking about only welfare til yuou tried to change the subject)

And as badly as you hate the rich at least they're doing something for success. If not it disappears soon enough.

You don't mind class resentment at all. You just don't like it when it's aimed at the rich.

    So you admit to it?

    That's a start.

And yes I think more of most rich than most poor though it's too grossly exaggerated to even mention.

    Lets say "some" poor.

Because many poor are whipped up into an angry mob by self styled saviors promising to take down the rich man.

    Blame the man.

  • Speaking of Rush Limbaugh and keeping with the main subject of the thread...

Rush spoke on the radio today.

About a memo from lawyers of the Obama admin - admitting

that CO2 in not in any way a poison, and the pushing of the

issue without any scientific basis is for political gain.

It was on C-Span, it's a 9 page report, it was a Congressman

from Montana? or N. Dakota who got a hold of it.

Well, isn't that embarrassing to those who drank the silly koolaid

about CO2 causing man made global warming. !!!

  • 1% of ten is less than 1% of twenty. Thanks. I knew that.

Yes, of course, Steve! Bush was required to cut everyone's taxes by the exact same percentage. He couldn't cut some people's taxes and not others, or cut some by greater percentages than others. He was bound to keep them all equal. Now I get it!

Thank God we have you around. That explains why I should have accepted it as good policy all along - it's not the dollar amount that matters, it's the percentage!

    Jesus.

Also, can you now find me an example of these "blame the man" arguments you keep insisting I'm relying on? I bet you can't find any of these either. Which will make you 0-for-3 in just about the last week.

  • Well I guess that closes the book on that phony Global Warming crap, eh cal.
