That will come in handy next year when we need help in the defensive backfield and punt return.....

  • It really wouldn't surprise me to see Brock start early in the season. On one hand, I'd like to see Kizer start off the season. That would mean he's grasping the offense and he's showed enough to warrant "learning on the fly". Conversely, we start the season against the Steelers and the Ravens, two teams we really haven't had much success against. Do we really want to throw in a rookie for his first real action against THEM? Ehh...

Cody really wasn't the same after his second concussion, and the numbers reflect that. He held onto the ball way too long (ranked 49th out of 50 in time to release the ball). Hopefully Cody is past all that, and hopefully he's going to take a step forward. After all, he had a couple of games we really should've won last year, and that was after playing when he had NO business being on the field. Zero reps, zero practice with the starters, and played pretty well despite the alarming circumstances. Now that he's had a full year of system knowledge, perhaps he can move the ball for us.

If he can't, I do not expect Hue Jackson to hesitate with tossing Brock into the fray. Despite playing for teams with superior defenses, Brock still owns a winning record and that has to count for something. He isn't historically accurate, but he does get the ball out much quicker than Cody (I believe he was ranked somewhere around 24 out of 50).

If Cody looks the part, and I suspect we'll know VERY early into camp, we may cut Brock loose if Kizer appears to be on the rise. However, given Cody's injury history, I can also envision a scenario where we do keep Brock on the roster. I actually like having him, and I think he's somebody that might be able to help us if we need him. I have no great expectations of him "lighting it up" or anything, but the guy has shown the ability to score some points and move the ball from time to time, and it might just work. Again, I think we'll know early into camp in terms of who will be starting for us. I don't expect the QB competition to last up until the 4th preseason game. I believe we'll know in 3 weeks.

  • Kiser will start. Book it.

  • I think I will wait to see how these guys all do in their preseason games before forming any particular opinion. Suffice it to say that no one thinks that any of these QBs are all that and a bag of chips. Let's wait it out. I have no particular predilicition toward any of them.

I hope that BO comes out looking like Bernie Kosar, that Kessler comes out looking like Brian Sipe, and that Kizer comes out looking like Cam Newton.

This too is my "prediction for Osweiler". That he stinks and is dealt to a desperate team for a couple of peanuts.

He is already on a desperate team.

Kizer starts... If he can't cut it, the man is drafted in 2018. Either way, Browns are set.

    Stop eating lead paint chips.

    Maybe, we shall see.

I documented elsewhere where a few QBs came back from obscurity or perugatory to perform quite well...and even win titles: Plunkett, Warner, Young..a couple of others.

It's not even Training Camp yet (starts tomorrow), so way too early . . . Indy has the biggest need if they want to compete (unless Luck gets healthy real fast), of course they may decide on a Tank job too for next year.

Game 2 or 3 if the OL is anything like last year.

On the other hand, if the OL is as improved as "they" say, we may see a better Kessler than we did last year with him not having to run for his life every snap.

  • Don't know why anyone would trade for Brock when they can just wait for him to be cut......

You understand that they also gave us a 2nd round pick right?

  • We paid a lot of money for a 2nd round pick! Here's hoping Carson Palmer's age and injuries catch up to him early in the season and we trade Brock for something valuable.

Brock Osweiler; Sounds like an imported German Beer

If he does, it will bolster my optimism. Whether Kizer is THE guy or not, we have to know if he is the guy or not. Osweiller, Kessler, and whoever the hell else we have may indeed win a few games, but none of them have the potential upside Kizer has.

Let the kid fuck up. Put him in, and keep sending him back out. I imagine if Hue ever got a puppy, the first time it shat in its cage he would get a new puppy.

Find out what Kizer is made of. Test his emotional toughness............. test him by fire. I am okay with a shit season if at the end of it we know he is the guy, or if we need to get someone else. This team fucks around too much. Put the kid in and watch what he does.

  • Ghoul - If you were Hue...and you knew that Haslam has a trigger finger when it comes to coaches and losing...would you start Kizer and lose all year? Or would you start someone that could get you some wins and thus save your job for another year? (now answer that question knowing that you are not you...you are a coach of the Browns and would like more time to get the team more & better players)

Us fans can think long term (or short term...depending on the situation). We think as if WE were the owners and coaches all rolled into one.

I actually agree. I'd like to see if Kizer is our man. For the exact reasons that you give. We have another bunch of picks for '18.

But you and I are NOT going to fire ourselves.

I know Haslam has been talking patience. But we all know how good his word is. (just ask Chud & Norv when he told THEM to be patient about the roster)

  • From the little I've seen, Jimmah's team are ahead of their season ticket plan. Every package sold buys a lil more patience...

The buzz this year is discernibly different. Our 2nd-year FO's draft was well regarded bringing a measure of respect to it in which Jimmah can bask. Basking breeds patience.

Both Chud and Pet were reaches for 2nd choices... or lower. Hue was a sought commodity that Jimmah "won". Winning breeds patience.

We are in new and different Jimmah territory. So long as we make progress, the patience will remain in place.
