I wonder what President Trumps endgame is here? He's obviously a smart dude. Whether you support him or not, his tweet about NFL players being fired if they didn't stand for the national anthem was puzzling, (and also his tweet about uninviting Curry to the white house, which ultimately led to Lebron calling him a bum).

Regardless, the president is a busy man with a ton of stuff to do. He should've known that by speaking against the NFL kneeling protest, that it would only increase the amount of players that are doing it. This only made the situation much worse and our President look worse. Do you think he really doesn't give a f#$% if it would make more people protest? or is this a calculated decision he made?

Regardless, we watch football to WATCH football. I don't want social justice rammed down my throat every single game. If someone wants to do it, whatever, that's their choice, but we shouldn't make it a major deal or give them massive coverage. Trump and LeBron are both wrong. Has a president ever belittled athletes on social media before in history? Has a star athlete every called a president a bum before in history? We surely must be living in a computer simulation.....

With all the scientific findings of CTE and all of the political conflict, I feel that the NFL is in trouble as a sport.

It directly effects our team does it not? Players kneeling and our owner saying something about the Browns. Tell me which political policy is this thread involved with?

About 20 Browns players knelt during the national anthem in Indianapolis. The crowd booed loudly, and running back Duke Johnson waved the crowd on. Johnson was in a group standing behind those who knelt with a hand on a shoulder of kneeling teammates. All Browns players, whether standing or kneeling, locked arms.

Jimmy Haslam said about Trumps remark

"We view our organization, our league and our players as great unifiers of people. Our players, just like so many others across our league, have been honest and thoughtful with their attempt to bring awareness to the issues of inequality and social injustice. We were incredibly moved by the meaningful and powerful dialogue they initiated within our organization when they spoke of their intent to unify and not be disrespectful while using familiar and important terms like one nation, indivisible with liberty and justice for all.

"Their intent is to create positive and unifying change and that was demonstrated well by the unity they led prior to our home opener. They have continued to prove this dedication to unite diverse members of our community throughout this past month by establishing direct conversation with the Cleveland Police Department and creating a plan to work together in our neighborhoods. We are also proud of their many other significant efforts in our city throughout the year that are done quietly to improve the lives of others.

No, it's not a discussion about the Browns and their play on the field. We have a political board for this, again mods please move this.

wrong, browns players taking a knee during the pregame is a valid discussion for the main board.

He made everything worse by yet again straying from his lane. So now its not a few players its practically the whole league. Idiot. I want this to go away, just stop talking about these guys let them do what they do. Fucking idiot

The problem is that hundreds of people who were veterans even said publicly on the browns facebook page that they would quit watching if our players would kneel. Kenny Britt kneeled a lot last year (even when I saw the rams play).

Remember, Jim Brown publicly told the Browns players not to kneel or disrespect the flag. Hue Jackson said publicly he "did not want our players protesting during the anthem". Does this say anything about Hue's control of the locker room, or do you think this will eventually calm down?

To play devils advocate though, have you heard of job where you discuss your political views in though? Nurses don't talk about political views, or doctors, or lawyers, or even people who work in the film industry. Most people just show up and do their job. The president was out of line, but the last thing I want is the cleveland browns pregame turning into a social justice warrior platform.

I remember my college Marketing 101 class.

The professor said that as a business entity, you shouldn’t attach a religious or political agenda to your persona.

If you do, you will alienate or offend a large percentage of potential customers.

US soldiers swear to defend the Constitution first and foremost.  Their allegiance to the President is explicitly conditional to both regulations and the UCMJ.. and was not present in the oath until 1960, meaning their ONLY allegiance was to the Constitution up to that point.  [Linked is the actual oath that Army enlisted men take.  Read it - you might learn something..]

Seems like it's time to remind the President that the first amendment expressly forbids.... exactly what he's attempting to do: Use the power of government to deliberately exert a chilling effect on free speech.

You, personally, have every right to dislike this speech of the players ----- but you simply do not have the right to actually use the power of federal/state/local government to stop it.  No, you don't.

I'll believe this move of the players merits one iota of actual concern when I see a fight in the stands because someone didn't take off their hat during the anthem.  What's that? It's never happened? Shocking.

Just so it's clear.. this is directly another example of "big government" attempted intrusion.  It's not one side or the other that has a monopoly on it.  Instead of rallying against "All XYZ" who do something that "my side" would never do -- time to accept the reality that both do it.

More directly back to the topic... Remember that MLK's movement was just as much economic as it was about the ballot box.

I will expound on my statement above:

"This move of the players will merit one iota of actual concern when I see a fight in the stands because someone didn't take off their hat during the anthem."

                                          Translation:

Hey, you, getting angry over this.  I fully expect you to apply EXACTLY the same logic to every single person in the stadium - fans and employees alike.

Why, exactly, does every other human being in that stadium get a free pass from you to be however they want to be whenever they want to .... except the players?

                                          Players are people too.

And they're not your trained monkey.. word chosen deliberately.
