First... condolences to those few who took WSH +7, but I needed the point more than you did... not to mention the IDP points from one of my starting LBs... 😛

Second... and here's the weird part. Throughout the game I was getting this weird feeling that I was watching our 2018 starting QB, Alex Smith. Hear me out here...

This year Alex has shown the chops to play the way Hue wants to play... taking shots downfield... and has the mobility Hue like to boot... (even if he never moves the pocket, but I digress). Except for some footspeed Alex could be RG3's brother from another... and we all know that RG rocked Hue's world.

So the stage is set. However, I'm not one, or at least I don't think I'm one, to take flights of fancy, so I did a little research.

First, might Alex be available? Yes. With Mahommes ripening on the vine and as high as the Chiefs reportedly are him, especially after the preseason he posted, it's easy to see them going to him in 2018. Only exception might be if the Chiefs win the SB. Anything short of that and the Chief's brass should be receptive.

Second, do the Chiefs have the control to do a deal? Let's face it, if Alex is in a contract year, then there are other places that would be interested and he would likely prefer. But Alex is under contract thru 2018. So check that box...

Third, do the Chiefs have any motivation to trade Alex other than paving the way for Mahommes? Yes... and it's spelled C - A - P...

Here's Alex's contracted total 2018 salary in bold with the guaranteed portion underlined:

    2018 $14,500,000 $3,600,000 $2,000,000 $500,000 $0 $20,600,000 11.6%
    $3,600,000
    $17,000,000

    Here's KC's 2018 Cap situation:

    Total Cap Liabilities: $178,790,902 - Top 51: $173,062,485 - Team Cap Space: ($790,902)

Yup... they are over the cap... website pun not intended... https://overthecap.com/salary-cap/kansas-city-chiefs  so color them motivated dealers.

Could be a flight of fancy... could also be a backdoor plan. Especially would fit the scenario where we never get sure about Kizer in 2017 and aren't sold on any one QB in the draft.

Sorry, all I could think about was watching Allen walk through the Chiefs interior at times tonight.

That having been said - interesting theory.    Provided Smith doesn't retire and, of course, Hue is retained.

Would the Browns want a short term fix though? Watched a touch of that game. Chiefs and Redskins are playing a brand of football I'm not familiar with after getting fed Browns crap. Passes on target. Recievers that actually catch passes....

Here's Kaiser + Kessler and our two first rounders for Smith + Hunt. We'll take our FS + Wr + CB in the 2nd round.😉

We will throw in 2 of our dazzling WRs of your choice for free.

Wouldn't hurt to keep the deal real, Ag...

Thought about it some and I think the one year remaining on his deal keeps the price "reasonable"... maybe swap 1st rounders? Could have been the Texans' 1st, but they're don't seem to be cooperating like they were.

While normally I'd be vary of that kind of price for a one-year contract, but the use of the tag does get you a second year for $22.6.

My real guess was posted on the other thread. We stay the course and add the skilled players we lack hoping by a miracle that Coleman for once can stay injury free and JG can stay clean. But still go after RB, WR and CB with all those high choices and a FS for sure. If this is not in the Havaad plan then they need to go back for grad school.

Of course this still does not cure Hue into using his inexperienced QB properly, but the FO can't fix that.

PS-Would I also like to add Smith as the QB for Kizer to learn from? You bet! He is one very smart QB who knows exactly what defenses are trying to do against him. He don't need no Hue.

PS again-How did you like that 3 TE formation KC used for the TD?

And another PS-best play I saw was the pulling RG coming across the formation making the keying LBs go to their right as the cutback runner went through the hole opened by the vacated RG. Genius!

Gotta love a good influence pull...

As for the 3TE set... I only have eyes for Kelce... #BrownsBoardFantasy 🙂

Smith mentoring Kizer? Could not hurt...

The fallacy with my scenario is that Smith makes us better... much better... instantly. Not necessarily alone, but certainly with a couple other pieces on Offense. But at 33-yo, for how long? And if we made the move based upon not being sure about Kizer after maybe two good years on one side or the other of the playoff threshold and drafting in the 20's, how do we emerge?

I understand the relief the fan base would feel, but the potential for subsequent regression might further erode the base.

That said a couple years of QB fishing in Days 2 and 3 might turn up a sustainable contingency to Kizer.

I was so bad in my 8 person fantasy league this week that only the KC gratuitous TD for my KC D as time ran out gave me enough points to get off the very bottom into 7th place. Thank God for multiple laterals with a botch at the end. LOL!🙂

OK Tour- I can almost buy what you're selling. You know how I feel about Kizer. He needs to improve about 100% to just be average. I hope he can, but I'm not counting on it. Me and the Ghoolster have been having (believe it or not) a sane discussion of our QB problem on FaceBook. His 0.02? A switch to Hogan, we start winning games sends Hue the "Not QB Guru" packing. Of course, if Kizer keeps stinking up the place, we finish around 2-14 will IMHO send Hue out the door too, move over, say hello to Williams as HC. Keep playing on this level, we'll be damn lucky to win two games. Maybe getting Garrett, Shelton, and Collins back will make a difference on defense- we'll see.

Can't see us swapping 1st round picks with KC- one of our second rounders should do it. ++++ right now, the Browns are solidly in the running in the Darnold Derby (or Josh Allen). Four teams 0-4, we have more ammunition than any of them.

Hey, I'm not hoping for a miracle turnaround- but this is year two. Let's see some progress. I can't put all the blame on Deshone- but Hue can't just keep trotting him out there to finish up when he's having another bad (make that horrendous) game. Um Hue, he's statistically the worst QB in the NFL- hope you realize that- the fans sure do.

I wanted alex smith years ago but in the tradition of clev fans i was shouted down cause his arm aint strong enough. I watched him laser one last night into the endzone from 40 some yds away. First thing i thought was "oh what a noodle arm im so happy he nrver came to clev"?

Anyway, not sure i want him now. He's been in the league 13 years and is getting 20m a year. Plus, the chiefs are a legit sb contender so they're not handing the team to mahommes anytime soon. He's 2-3 years "min" from being ready. Having him sit behind alex smith for a couple years is the perfect scenario for the chiefs and "they know it". Mahommes will backup smith prob till the last year of his rookie contract

Good point by Cleave in that - if the Chiefs have a deep playoff run or, incredibly enough, win the Super Bowl... would they move Smith?

I suppose it would depend on how the playoff exit itself goes...

I was thinking today that KC is in a great position to sell high on Smith. If they feel that Mahomes will be ready to start, there's no reason not to turn smith into a 1st rounder. Don't know if it will be the Browns, but someone will gladly take Alex off the chiefs hands

No, when he was up for trade or FA, there was talk of bringing him here and i remember being all in for that. But people were like no thanks his arm is too weak...i was facepalming hard. Every game ive watched with him i it i see throws that make ne go back a couple years to those pwople, not just in cleveland, who thought he doesnt have an nfl arm. Im just wtf were those people going on about? Cause he cant throw it over a mountain?
