True...it is silly season....but it may also be a true report.

I mean....after all, many of us fan boys have said that WE are not fully enamored of any of these QBs that are coming out.  You know what I have said:  that this could just be another David Carr/Joey Harrington   or  Ponder/Gabbert/Locker like draft year as easily as it could be  an Eli/Rivers/BR type class.

All I am saying is....if we are not overwhelmed...why should Dorsey et all be overwhelmed?

Fortunately, they are the pros whose job it is to figure it out.....and hopefully the do find the one Cinderella in amongst all the wicked stepsisters.

Agreed. But if they do take a QB later, they better get it right. We have so much money and so many picks, it’s now or never to get his QB schit right

Could be. I just don’t see the angle. What do the Browns get out of spreading misinformation?

  • Why would they disrespect an entire group of potential QBs before the draft?

  • I see. You’re saying the report is bogus. I thought you were saying they’re throwing it out that their not enamored for potential leverage in some fashion.

I don’t think it’s bogus, I just think it got leaked as things usually do this year

Ideally, a king's ransom to trade out of the #1.. I read this as Dorsey saying he's open for business.

  • I don't believe it. I mean, the smokescreen is not only useful for the #1 pick, but also for the #4: You increase the value of the top picks because GMs start asking or ask even more for trading negotiations, and once you have created a market, you can benefit not only if you trade down from #1 but also if you get a QB at #1 and keep #4.

It also makes sense that they mention it now because it might switch other GMs QB acquisition strategy from taking theirs in the draft instead of the Free Agency, where we will probably add a QB. We own the draft market, but not the Free Agency market (though we have more salary cap, it is far from monopolizing)

A bit early for that Nero, but it doesn't hurt to start lighting up the smoke early. Where the big domino (Cousins) falls when free agency starts will have  a huge effect on the top ten picks, assuming he lands on a team drafting there, and I'm betting he will. 🙂

That would have to be the Browns or Jets..or Broncos.  This makes an assumption that the Giants would not be in the market for Cousins.  Should we make that assumption?  Or should the Gints be considered as part of the Cousins cadre?

You have it Gip. the Giants options as I see it now: (assuming we draft a QB #1)

    1) draft Eli's eventual replacement

    2) draft Saquon Barkley

    3) trade down for more picks at #2, they could wind up with a Wentz level haul if one of the QB needy teams sees a potential franchise QB there

  • There is  a real problem with Browns trading #1 pick to a QB needy team.  It eliminates another QB which won't be there at #4.  Not knowing what the Giants will do and with the possibility of Indy trading their pick also to a QB needy team, put the #4 pick in jeopardy.  Way too risky for my blood.

However, keeping #1 and using it on a non-qb would probably be safe enough as long as you have two qbs you would settle for, such as if the Browns would be happy with say Darnold or Allen.

I agree.  Plus, it's early in the process.

Not being enamored with any ONE of them doesn't mean we don't like some of them.

  • wow stupid siht kinda time then why does he have us picking Donald at four if we are not enamored

It looks like it’s shaping up to be the Vikings, Jets, and Broncos with the Vikings being the most likely suitor.

  • I think after the combine, pro days and meetings, they'll know who they want.

Or they could go down as the team that's needed a franchise QB for 20+ years, and failed to get one with TWO #1 draft picks in a row

And passed on Wentz, watson,  carr, garropolo,  etc

  • The more I think of it, the more I get pissed off by - relatively speaking - how little the 49ers gave up for Garappolo.

He should be a Cleveland Brown right now, the Browns should have the most important position already filled for years to come with a (somewhat) experienced young guy, and we could be focusing on the rest of the team.

    Its all a smoke screen.

Even though the Browns pick # 1,  keeping the other team making assumptions screws up their draft boards when they guess wrong. Especially when youre picking again at # 4.

You draft Barkley at # 1

Then the QB of the future at # 4

I see what you're saying, but if you're the BROWNS of ALL the teams in the league, you simply can't take a chance on not getting the QB you have rated the highest.  There's simply no excuse, when you have the #1 and the #4 picks, NOT to draft the guy you have ranked ahead of everybody.  We're the Browns, the team above all others that have been absolutely TORTURED by the QB position, and now we have the #1 pick, a chance to take whoever we want, and we need to grab the guy we like the best.

Think about what happens if we take Saquon first overall.  That leaves two picks before our #4.  Two chances for other teams to either draft the QB we like the best or make an insane trade with a team who wants to move up to draft one.  Does Saquon look like a crazy-awesome prospect?  Would he immediately help us score points?  Heck yes, but NOTHING matters until you get the QB position right, and NO team knows that more than the Browns!  We can pick whichever QB we want, and nothing can change that.  We have the first pick and we literally get to select who we WANT.  We don't get cute, we don't try to maximize our draft capital and trade down, we don't draft a RB #1, and if Saquon is available at #4, then we look at drafting him, but if it's me, I take Minkah Fitzpatrick all day.  Look at the RB's who were drafted after the first round last year and still did great.  Kareem Hunt?  Kamara?  Dorsey will find our stud RB in the 2nd or 3rd round, he's done it before.

Baker Mayfield should be drafted #1, and the ONLY other guy I'd be ok with is Rosen.  Oh, and if we draft Josh Allen, I will comb the planet to find an experimental "Total Recall" procedure and have the doctor implant memories of me being a Patriots fan because Allen looks like a complete JOKE to me.  He's Paxton Lynch 2.0, and I have NO IDEA why he's getting a pass on his horrible accuracy and terrible numbers.
