They want to keep the unfair advantage of tariffs on their side. Don't be stupid has nothing to do with alienation has to do with business. Like Tia said you can't have it both ways.

Public humiliation of the leaders in our allied countries isn't renegotiation. It's just plain stupid and makes our president out to be the Ugly American, which he is. And now Wall Street is beginning to see it for what it is so down goes the market and the American economy with it. Wrecking ball is not the end all - be all approach to everything. Harley is just the start.

Horsesht.  Nobody has humiliated anybody. If the Barnacles on The Good Ship USA are going to whine I have no problem with giving them a taste of their own medicine instead of just kissing their butts

  • Foreign leaders love the United States when we open up her pocketbooks for them. Don't kid yourself.

So wrecking ball it is then.

EDIT: And you know the problem with wrecking balls is that they also come back in your direction once they get through the target.

    Sir you're getting hysterical.

  • So here's a question since you guys are all worried about a trade War. How about we make a deal and completely eliminate our tariffs on imported automobiles if the Europeans do likewise? You think that will happen? Would you approve of that? And if not why?

Another question do you think we would be better off if we use nothing but cheap Chinese Steel?

  • The sky is falling!  They been saying that since the great President was elected, when in fact everything is doing better, except their mental state.

    1. China - $636 billion traded with a $375 billion deficit.
    2. Canada - $582 billion traded with an $18 billion deficit.
    3. Mexico - $557 billion traded with a $71 billion deficit.
    4. Japan - $204 billion traded with a $69 billion deficit.
    5. Germany - $171 billion traded with a $65 billion deficit.

How/who did all these one-sided deals? Of course some of our allies want to keep their gravy train rolling,

we are their train - their advantage.

Time for that to end, at least make it CLOSE to fair.

    BINGO!

When you consistently have one country buying more from other countries, guess who holds the leverage?

  • I have no problem with re-negotiating trade with any of these countries. It's the public bashing of our alliances in the process I think needs changing. What you do in a  negotiating room is one thing, but what you do to permanently damage long term alliances with democracies and their leaders is another. Especially in light of the grandstanding with NK as if some "deal" of substance and importance had actually been made when in fact he gave away the store for toilet paper. Why does he constantly kiss up to the tyrants of the world and demean elected leaders?

  • Edit

And from the BBC. The actual state-run media most definitely and expectedly slanted toward Europe. Doesn't seem that outrageous that we should ask them to tip in a little bit more to live under the umbrella of the US Military.

  • sigh, none of u understand how monetary policy is reflected in those deficits. we've been doing this since we came off the gold standard. those countries have been soaking up our debt in order to prop up our fiat currency.

  • Tariffs are just not a good idea.....well before Trump hopped on board.  They are very counter productive in every way.

  • tariffs, if done right...are "ok". sometimes you have to protect ur countries jobs from cheap, low wage countries that flood ur markets just to drive ur companies out of business. theres an art to this when dealing wirh hundreds of billions of dollars wirth of goods and services that is beyond any of our limits of understanding.

  • what i fault trump for is picking this fight with every trading partner therefore losing a substantial amt of leverage. china knows now we cant dump certain goods with other trading partners cause we're at war with them too. so china can sit back and watch portions if our economy suffer and the internal pressure to capitulate on us will build.

ohio soy is going to get smashed by this trade war.
