Avery and Nassib should be our LDE rotation

Seriously, what's the rationale for the love for Nassib at this point? OK, he's worth having as a backup.. at what point has he ever done anything better than below-average in a non-preseason game? What type of ahistorical scotch are you drinking to celebrate the arrival of Monday?

His actual performance to date as a 3rd-round pick is barely meeting expectations..

agreed. if u read what write about him, his only use is as edge protection. His pass rushing is below avg. Ive critiqued him and ogbahs edge rush for over 2 years now. Which is why i put averys name first in the thread title as he should, right now, be splitting reps with nassib at LDE and then we'll see in a couple games if he can just taje over that spot full time.

we need to see what we have in avery now because i still think we need to target a LDE in the draft next year

top tier DT would finish off this defense...ogbah's not the slouch you seem to think he is.  cant have all pros at every position.

    The Pro Bowl does! 🙂

Seriously, yours is the point. As long as the rest are very good role players you can have a lot of success with a couple 1st team All-pros and a couple 2nd teams as long as your QB and a pass rushers are in the 1st team conversation. (Sounds a lot like the Pats doesn't it?)

Nassib can fill a run stuffing role. And if trapped on-field, then Kirk outside Carl can supply the pressure. It's not a bad situation. Especially if there's a decent push up the middle.

  • ive been pointing out how badly he gets turn blocked for now the 3rd year. I keep seeing the same play everytime a run breaks over our left side and #90 is in there. He gets his pads turned sideways and thats that its over. Ive yet to hear an explanation from anyone for why that keeps happening, all i hear is charlie browns mom mumbling "whaawhaa pff whaawhaa".

and i dont want to hear about being hurt, bosa started his rookie year with a bad hammie and his tech was as good as it got in the nfl. Myles hopped out onto the field last year on one leg but he still got upfield into the lanes. He couldnt always shed, he would allow his arms to get folded, and i was here critiquing him for it. But he at least had his body as an obstruction to the off tackle run.

PFF are professional fanbase trolls, not sure why anyone hasnt caught that yet.

So why doesn't Nassib start over Ogbah when both are healthy?  When are you going to get that the DC that watches both practice every day started Ogbah over Nassib?  You see 1 play while you're slamming beers and think you know more than our DC. It doesn't work like that....

ive been asking that question for 3 years. Ogbah is a better pass rusher, thats it. And not by really a whole lot he's just stronger than nassib. Had nassib addressed his physical deficiencies coming out of college better, i thi k he'd be starting. Imo, At 6'7 he gives up leverage that he doesnt make up for with improved leg drive.

For a guy that wants to be heard by others you certainly refuse to acknowledge what others are saying.  I'll make 1 last attempt.  My eye ball test last year said Ogbah was the most improved guy in our front 7 East of Schobert.  While we're at it with our MLB Schobert - he tied for either the NFL or the Conference lead in Tackles.  Does that happen if the edges aren't funneling runs inside?  Not likely.  Another thing that supports such a theory is our DTs were very successful against the run as well.

Here's some agreements with my eye ball test.  Brett Sobleski (a Dline Coach) wrote at 1 point in 2017 nobody made more tackles behind or at the line of scrimmage than Ogbah since Clowney in 2016.  That's not a guy getting his butt kicky-kickied.  Gregg Williams was the one that brought up PFF had Ogbah ranked #1 against the run regardless of your opinion of it.  Forget PFF and consider the same guy (Gregg Williams) who coached Jevon Kearse to Rookie of the Year with 14.5 sacks and a SB: and Saints DE Will Smith had the most sacks of his career (13) for a SB Champion.  What do you think he doesn't understand about the edge?

Did Ogbah get pinned in on some occasions?  Nobody said he didn't.  I saw a lot more of that in 2016 than I did in 2017.  You're posting it's all you've seen from him.  And keep in mind, neither of us in this debate were at any of the 2017 practices justifying why Ogbah was the starter and Nassib was the fresh legs/breather subbing for starters or injured starters. We didn't see one 2017 Okie drill.   I LIKE your energy and enthusiasm about DEs and I even value your opinions believe it or not.  Not that I'm a role model with this, but sometimes you need to acknowledge what others are trying to say to you sometimes particularly when we give you the why we disagree. When you don't - that's when I bust your balls. Moving forward, just exhale and be happy we have some young guys that'll compete if someone gets complacent or can't do the job.

the browns are going to have a legit rush package with Avery, oghbah, og, garrett.

nassib is your classic try hard effort guy i would keep him over orchard he seems to make more plays and is trying to get better. He was noticeably bigger this year give him another year or 2 in the weight room he could be something.  that is what you want in your developmental backup players.

hey im not discounting ur opinion, im explaining "my" position. I havent been coming here for 2+ years since we drafted them shouting "ogbah and nassib suck cause i said so". Ive been giving clear and concise examples this whole time.

Im gonna leave this go for a few games. No sense in doing this during preaeason even tho garrett doesnt seem to mind doing it right on his side during preseason....anyway......im gonna keep eyes on this and im gonna jot down timestamps on plays that i feel illustrate my critiques for going on 3 years

ok, so i got home today and realized i still had the eagles game taped. So i watched every defensive snap in the 1st half. First time through i never realized the eagles had ertz (their TE)  blocking ogbah. And that battle did not go well for og. Ertz caught both og and avery blind on a couple plays, which in itself is alarming cause the DE always has to.check off the TE lining up on his outsie shoulder. For comparison i never saw this work on the other side against garrett. But even more alarming was a play where ertz lined up heads up with og and drove him a ft or two back before og regained leverage. By that time the play was past. I saw a similiar pad height mistake by ogbah near the goal line when he was lining up inside as a DT, and their guard just rocked him up on his toes and shoved him back a couple ft. Had the play come over that side it would have been ugly.

I watched that left side and nothing but for the whole first half, so i also saw all of nassibs plays. Pass rushing there was obviously nothing to write home about but there were 3 or 4 run tackles that nassib either made on his own or was directly responsible for the pursuit getting there at the point. One play nassib read perfectly as it ran over their LT and he slid to his right all the way over from the LDE spot while keeping blockers off him and he made the tackle solo from behind i beleive. Obviously the right side of our defense had a hand in holding the play up just long enough for that to happen, football is a ream sport after all. But watching nassibs techinique as he ran parallel to the line was not unimpressive. For comparison the afire mentioned similiar play with ogbah, he lets the TE deep into his pads and got pushed backwards as he tried to drift to his right tracking the play. Nassibs just a better run stopping edge player and its not even really close.

So now im going to let this go for a little bit to see maybe some players are just easy walking through preseason. Thats fine, we'll see on the 9th.

good read, but results..am guessing, but when live bullets start to fly, and Obah slides to DT, am thinking we will see Avery or Kendricks coming from LDE pass Rush, Jamie Collins than other of Avery/Kendricks in pass pro?

It doesn't look like we need to wait until the 9th.  We got the results today (September 2nd) and Nassib didn't make the team while Ogbah is projected to start.

If it makes you feel any better, I really wanted Nassib to make the team and thought he did.  He was a fun kid full of hustle that looked like he was improving.  But, that's only from small portions of the 4 hours of Hard Knocks and limited parts of preseason action.   Our DC and former Philadelphia Eagle DE (now our dline coach) saw a lot more of Nassib and Ogbah in practice and on film to trust their disagreement with you about which guy offers us more.

either dorsey or williams didn't like him enough to keep him.
