You asked how he had no real experience covering TEs. I told you.

Taco rarely says what he says... at least once he's called on it.

That sounds like a Yogi Berra quote.

  • There were so many other players available when we drafted him. So many that fit a specific need. It really was a bad pick, but it doesn't have to stay that way. Prove me wrong Peppers.

Peppers was made to be a close in stopper hybrid DB/LB. Williams will get it right in the long run. Not tipping his hand in pre-season. Now he has some true safeties and CBs and someone better in B-C to sometimes play centerfield.

  • Year #2 and he hasn’t distinguished himself from the other guys on the team, that says enough for me.

Dont worry Woody the OSU guys will be defending Ward and bashing Williams when Ward gets exposed ?

Oh I know.  I'll wait for you to do that haha

I can only imagine how long it took with Robiske for those guys here

Well, considering when he returned from injury he was immediately running with the first team at SS tells me, maybe he has flashed enough to "distinguish" himself...

I thought Kindred was hurt near the end of last year though.

  • Look at how loaded buckeyes secondary has been recently.

Lattimore. Hooker,  Conley,  Apple,  Roby,  and Ward.

  • Von Bell... hell, even Tyvus Powell has made a niche in the league.

If you listen to Woody, you would have thought that Peppers was the second coming of  Charles Woodson.  When is that guy going to show up?

  • Yep, OSU has produced a lot of DB talent recently. Variying success in the NFL, but it's still early for a lot of them. Lattimore has obviously been lights out.

Hopefully Michigan is trending that way with DBs. Lewis, Hill and Peppers (plus some UDFAs from that secondary). We also had two of the top rated CBs in CFB returning for this year. It'll be interesting to see how this draft shakes out from our D.

I've always thought Peppers was so overrated.

I felt that Lewis was the best on that team.

Then again,  I'm just some schmuck on the interwebs

  • Peppers should be selling cars or burgers.

  • I think a lot of people here are confused that there is in fact a difference between FS and SS.  Its the difference between Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor.

Depends on the defensive system and personnel demands.  Other times the differences aren't as drastic.

  • Well lets look at SS on Greg Williams defense on the Rams....TJ McDonald, who is more of a LB than Kam Chancellor.

  • SS in the NFL is more often than not a LB/DB hybrid.  Theres Chancellor/McDonald, Keanu Neal, Jonathan Cyprien, Harrison Smith, Reshad Jones, Landon Collins, Kenny Vaccaro, TJ Ward.   A SS has to be able to play in the box, and play a 2 deep.  They need to cover TEs, and maybe a RB.    Theyre usually the guy on a D that will bring the big hit.  A FS has to be a great center fielder and generally stick to deep zones except when theres a heavy blitz and they man up.

Well....that is because the positions have now likely become confused.   Like in basketball.....look at LeBron say....a 6'8" versatile player.  He can be a point guard, a shooting guard, a small forward, a power forward,  could possibly even play the middle.

And DBs these days.....sometimes they have to do the traditional cornerback role, or the SS role, or the FS role.   Versatility now in being able to do all of the above is becoming the trend.   Can Peppers be that versatile guy?   Or must he be slotted into one of the traditional roles for him to live up to his potential and his reputation and his draft status?

If a guy is great at multiple rolls then thats when you see them being moved around to play what benefits the team most in certain situations.  Maybe Peppers is better than our backup FS and in a cover 1 situation they could slide him over when Randalls out and play Kindred at SS.  I think he'll stick to SS until he gets better at coverage, but hes a very young player in another new position.  He'll get better.
