A little late for "this year" Po. Except they don't have a 5th round pick next year. Josh Gordon trade. The Browns also have the Patriots third round pick (Danny Shelton). So let's hope the Pats suck big time.

They do have their 4th rounder, and probably a couple compensatory picks at the bottom of the 3rd.  BTW, looking at Spotrack the Patriots only have $5 million in cap room this year, and $24 million total in cap room in 2019. Giving Bell a humongous deal does not compute from a math standpoint. Unless of course Brady retires.

Here's the potential landing spots, and scratch Cleveland off the list.  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/steelers-reportedly-willing-to-trade-leveon-bell-here-are-5-possible-landing-spots/  Just because we have the cap room doesn't mean we're going to give a malcontent the fat contract he thinks he's worth. If things go as planned, we're going to need that cap room when Garrett, Mayfield, and Ward come off of their rookie deals. Don't forget we shipped Gordon out because he couldn't toe the line.

Josh becomes a free agent after the season, so if he stays on the field and stays on track the I bet the Browns might decide to bring him home...

BUT- Po. He's a restricted free agent, so the Patriots can tender him- and if he plays to a Pro Bowl level, you can bet on a first round tender. We'll see, he has to play the Patriot way, and stay out of trouble....

EDIT: As far as "bringing Josh home". Sorry, forget it. I don't know what Gordon did- or didn't do- to get traded. But whatever it was, he burned his last bridge with the Browns, and he knows it.

    4th in 2019 & a 5th in 2020 is what I meant ?

But like I said- the Pats don't have the cap room to sign him. If anything, looking at the potential landing spots from that article- the 49ers would be the best choice for the Steelers (assuming they'd be interested)- ship him out of the AFC.

Personally, I think Bell has seriously over valued his worth on the open market. Shades of Terrell Pryor- who got about 1\2 of what he thought he was worth.

I had enough of defending Gordon and getting let down.. Bell can go suck a pickle...

Who is a better every down back then Bell? Gurley?

The guy might not be worth it to the Steelers, but somebody will gladly use his services.

Sure handed, route running and physical..

Sure, Gurley set the market. A team might want him- but can they afford him and not blow their cap in the process?

My understanding is if you are under the franchise tag you can't work out a new deal until the end of the year, if thats the case no one is going to give anything more than a 6th or 7th rounder for Bell.

I believe they can rescind the franchise tag? Correct me if I'm wrong.

He cant step on field without signing it. So it is sign it and play, sign it and get traded, or be released

But assuming he gets traded, can the new team renegotiate his contract?

At this point, what team is going to have both the cap room and sufficient need\ interest to eat the rest of that franchise tag?

Looks like the Steelers are stuck between a rock and a hard place. Couldn't happen to a nicer team.

I think the Steelers do not think they are stuck as you say.   I think that they think that they can use Conner just about in the capacity as they used Bell....ergo their now willingness to trade him.

True in that respect. Their ability to unload Bell if at all, for what they percieve to be fair value remains to be seen.

From my understanding, he must sign that franchise tag to play, and thus when traded the new team must pay him that. He cannot negotiate a new deal until next year

Then the question is- what team is going to pay franchise money for a potential one year rent-a-player? Looking at Spotrac, there's no team with Super Bowl aspirations this year that has the cap room to eat $14 million.

Well have to remember that if he were traded tomorrow that 3 million would be off from 1st 3 games. Still don't think a team wants that.

I think if he wants his money....he will have to go to wherever will pay him.  Super Bowl aspirations or not.   He has demonstrated that he is all about the money....NOT winning or making the playoffs.   If he was into that, he would be playing now for a team that many think has Super Bowl aspirations  (while some of the rest of us think that team is dreaming if they do....not with that defense.  I would love to see FitzMagic shred that defense tonight)

True, but I think his point is only a team with SB aspirations will trade for him.

That was my take and anyteam willing to trade him wont give up too much to get him for a year rental. I would also be better to let him walk and then the Steelers can get the compensatory pick a year later it will probably be higher than any pick anyone offers them.
