Peppers

I can't read a Shmucked up mind.
it's clear what play I was talking about....unless you think there is more than one jordy on the raiders who just caught a go ahead td. Anyone watching the play saw it

Peppers defended that pass as best as he could, Nelson has 4 inches on him. Criticize the play call that assigned Peppers to cover Nelson

nonsense....he was way too far back, reacted way too late.....why did he react so late? Jordy is in front of him and he's already in the damn end zone 3 yards deep just standing there. Jordy isnt going to run by him and catch the damn ball 15 yards deep in the end zone. That was a terrible play by peppers.....he's been a disaster. this year even more than last. Slow as Sheet non-playmaker.

I was going to stay out if this threads and let the typical folk rage jerk each other off but that quoted part got me...
... That's objectively not true. PFF rated him as the best player on our defense against the Saints, as one example. I'm not saying this wasn't a bad game (though it seems a lot like one bad play) but if you haven't seen the improvement and what he brings to the D in the box then I can only assume you don't actually know anything about football.
But it's the typical folks jumping on this like wolves for obvious reasons.
If there's a measured reply I'll be happy to respond, but I'm not holding my breath

I'm not about to bang on Peppers over one play. However, I will bang on Williams for playing zone that he got torched on for a couple other of the Raiders touchdowns. Same damn play, and same result.

we need video of the play. I dont know what cov they were in and what was peppers responsibility on that play. I can prob guess they werent in man cause u dont put ur safety in man against jordy fukking nelson. It sounds like they were in a zone and peppers was responsible for the back line. Maybe he was supposed to slam down on quick slants to the goal line, maybe carr froze him to the backline crossing route and threaded it to jordy on the seam or slant whatever......sometimes a qb just earns one.

I've seen him wrecking our defense all year...10 vs 11. What he's bringing 'in the box'? Wtf is this 1974?? If we wanted an extra damn linebacker we'd get one....an actual linebacker.
And no it wasn't one big play...look at the lynch run on the drive before. Him going down like a little p**** with no resistance at all is what opened up that whole play that set up more points. So so much for his 'in the box' contributions. And if he is making so many contributions as a wannabe linebacker, where are his tackles? Tackles made for a guy in the secondary is usually a stat of little value with so much noise, but if he is always doing shite in there his name would show up more.
obvious reasons? What are those? I dont have anything against peppers anymore than any other crappy player hurting the team I root for.....Im not a tosu fan. I did speak out against the pick like most people after the draft, pointing out that he's going to play safety likely in the nfl and he obviously doesn't have nfl safety skills....thats proven to be true. You've embarassed yourself to create this 'special' role for him in your mind...but one look at the tape still shows him sucking....
We're so thin in the secondary now that unfortunately he has to be out there some now....hopefully more depth/players will come soon and the secondary continues to be upraded so his sorry self doesnt see so many snaps

Peppers should never have had to cover Jordy Nelson. He should have been blanketing Cook all game long.
Other than perhaps Ward, I think every one of of 2ndary made a mistake this game that Carr exploited.

of course it was a favorable matchup for the raiders there, but that doesn't excuse the terrible reaction, feet in mud movements, etc....
And in the nfl in 2018, you sometimes(well more than sometimes) get a #3 type wideout matched up down the field against a safety. This isn't 2012 jordy. You don't expect the safety to fall on
his face to that extent. Hell on the thursday night game the rams kept getting wideouts on barr(a slow linebacker)....now thats an extreme mismatch, but a safety on nelson down the field with the end zone boundary as your 'deep help' shouldn''t be an automatic disaster.
As for blanketing cook, I doubt that would have happened.....besides using him that way wouldn't have jived with this troy polomaulo on steroids fantasy role woody envisions for his boy.

I said I wouldn't respond to a ranting, raving, nonsense response. Which is a lot of what I got. But, is this the run you were talking about?
Video should start at 8:02

Look, I don't think he's doing a bad job as a strong safety, the position he should have been in from Day 1 of his career.
But the athletic freak who played all over the place had a first round pick used on him? Well he's limited. He just is.
And using a first rounder on a safety who contributes more in the run game than the passing game is a very questionable move to make in today's NFL. That's not Pepper's fault, but the Browns reached on him. Doesn't mean he's bad, but I highly doubt he's ever the playmaker the Browns envisioned. I'll take solid strong safety at this point.
-
Mitchell made the best defensive secondary play of the day and it was when he broke his arm..
its damn shame and I hope he recovers ASAP

You just said 'well he's limited. he just is'. Which is obvious and true. You only have to watch him return a kick and take literally forever to get to the 12 yard line to see that.
Which is partly why he *is* doing such a terrible job...last year and this year.
Good teams aren't using 1 of their 4(or 5 or whatever depending on the package) secondary guys on some traditional role of whatever a 'strong safety' is supposed to be. Thats not the nfl in 2018. your post indicates you sort of get this concept. Whatever you call peppers position, he's got to be able to do a lot of things that safeties do today. He can't do those things....

So was that Lynch run play I posted the one you were talking about?

lmao.....peppers could have been 6'10 and he woudnt have had a chance to make a play there. His feet were stuck in mud and his instincts there were Sheet.
And yes I agree that Peppers on nelson down the field(hell peppers on anyone who can catch a football down the field is a disaster) isn't good for us. but if that were even some safety like eddie jackson I wouldnt have been as freaked out. So yes its a terrible situation because it isolated a shitty player...the solution is to get better players which we will.

ok so i just watched the nelson td throw....that was man coverage. And #22 was right with him....i mean that was not vad coverage, that ball was just rifled in. Peppers protected the corner route expecting the LB'er to converge on nelson if he broke to the inside. Schobert and peppers were running downfield with jordy nelson. Browns got caught with the wrong personnel im guessing, and carr naturally sniffed it. But acting like peppers just stared at a wide open nelson......wtf?

I'm curious, do you have a link to the video? The only view of it I saw was the broadcast angle and it cuts most of the play off.

Mitchell made the best defensive secondary play of the day ...
I was kinda partial to Ward taking out Lynch's legs on a near sideline incompletion.

So I am guessing Taco actually rewatched the play he was ranting about, the run by Lynch that I posted, and he noticed a very curious thing... Peppers wasn't actually on the field. Ward got knocked on his butt (by an OL though), and Carrie got his legs cut out it looked like. I can see how Pep is the worst player ever when every bad play by a DB is now by Peppers... lol
