A Case For Hue
-
Sorry, Ag... but that's just fukking ignorant.
Look at the full play-by-play up to that point. We were in the game. We called timeout to preserve time for our Offense who had come alive in the 2nd Qtr to close the score to 14-10. WE had CIN pinned deep in their own territtory. WE were looking to at least get a FG before the half. We had the momentum...
This place is getting so hindsight happy it's ridiculous...
Hey, that's my specialty. Don't knock it!?

I think we all just need a sacrificial lamb after those frustrating finishes in three of four games.
I want special teams coach Amos Jone's head on a stick.

He's a good dude in everyday life for sure.
Indeed. But he feels like he has to prove his worth every single time ''I said, I told...''
I guess I wouldn't be very different if they kept me after 1 win after 2 seasons, but he needs to build up some confidence and stop thinking about himself and think about the team he is meant to command.

Yep, he'll finally be the leader when he doesn't have to tell everyone he's the leader.

Yeah it’s very cringeworthy
To me the Browns are winning games despite Hue not because of
Like the Browns are now starting to look like a legit NFL organization despite the Sashi years preceding it?
I know exactly what you mean.

Well, some can't let it go. Sashi is ancient history. The Dorsey Era has begun.

Whatever Dutch. I’ve tried debating you about it like an adult for too long despite you trolling nearly all my posts by bringing Sashi into it. You’re just a bit of a prick so I’m going to give up. Have fun.

Hue's job is to keep the the players motivated and hungry. Decide who starts, who sits, who plays. Handle the media. Oversee the coordinators, go over scouting reports with them. Gameday management: clock management, challenge flags, 4th down decisions, overall gameday management.
Which of these areas do you see him lacking in this year?
The team seems motivated and hungry, he has the right guys starting, he has utilized the depth players well, he avoids controversy, doesn't give away injury information, our team seems overall prepared each week, he challenged at the right time, he has shown some balls on 4th downs and going for 2 on PATs ... some people question his clock management, but I thought he handled that well yesterday.
We've played five games, three of them against "elite" opponents. We have been in every game for every second. We are the youngest team, by far, in the league and we've won two of those battles, lost two and drew a tie. We are 1-0-1 in our division, 2-1-1 in our conference. The three games we didn't win: short FG to win game gets blocked. Kicker misses two field goals and two extra points. Refs overturn first down to ice the game and blow a fumble and potential TD call.
Why is this Hue's fault again?
Our team was down 14 points to the Steelers in the 4th quarter and rallied. After a devastating West Coast loss last week, we came back hungrier than ever and defended our turf against what was the perceived best team in our division going into the game.
We dealt with losing Josh Gordon and Mychal Kendricks with a "next man up" mentality and no looking back.
I've seen locker rooms quit on coaches. We have all seen it in Cleveland many times, and those coaches deserved to be fired.
I have not seen this team quit on Hue Jackson once.

I am still down on Hue. But after this week, I am willing to extend to him the rest of the season until we are either in the playoffs in which case he keeps his job, or we are out of contention with a 5 or 6 win season, in which case as soon as we are out of contention, he should be fired and the "next man up" mentality will put the OC in charge...
Some things that makes me think the locker room has turned a corner with Hue.. The fact that when he was giving game balls away, they were banging into him in pure joy, to the point he got slammed against the lockers.. That was a moment of truth there.. Guys so happy that they feel like they can share it with him and try and make him one of the guys.. it was a small thing, but it stood out to me.
Giving game balls to non-players is stupid.. STOP DOING IT!!
This is now Hue's team. Period end of story.. 3rd year coaches are expected to start fielding playoff capable teams.. Has Hue done this.. YES... Does his teams show up ready to play every Sunday... YES they have been in every game to the bitter bitter(sometimes sweet) end... He handles the press OK, not great.. He needs to know when to stop talking..
He needs to take a page from the Baker Mayfield press playbook. BE COOL, give credit to everyone but yourself.. Build confidence...

Plenty of reason to hate Hue for the teams performance the last 2 seasons but I don't see any issues with the job he's doing this season. The team is playing well and has played well in every game so far this year.

While I continue to think he may be THE weak link on this team....we just have to wait and see and hope that he can improve.
