The difference being...JG actually has talent.

Too bad he didn't want to play here.

That's why JG is playing for the Pats, and JFF is trying wreck the CFL.

LOL, but the dreamers are still thinking "just give him one more chance, and THIS time it's going to be different."

Ironic isn't it that Huey would not give JFF the time of day, but he tried to ignore the ticking clock on JG.

I enjoy most of your posts Aggies; but don't blame anyone but JFF for not giving the NFL the time of day he prioritized to partying. Like Canton Dawgs is saying, there's 31 other NFL teams that gave him the exact same "no thanks" that has him playing in Canada.   Is he even tearing that level of competition up?

A little fore-shadowing here.... he is not.

JFF was a rich alcoholic, JG has a deep anxiety issue stemming back from middle school.

QBs are generally the face of the franchise

I grew up (that's debatable) watching so many QBs that loved to party in college like Bernie Kosar, Jim Kelly, Brett Favre, Tommy Kramer, Wade Wilson, and others. Some of them still became good-great pro QBs anyhow. So, I thought Manziel would also be able to do that so this knucklehead was all excited we drafted him.  If my career depended on pegging NFL QBs right, I'd be sleeping under bridges...

Don't misunderstand what I'm saying. i am not defending JFF in any way. What I am saying is that given his history all the way back to HS, Baylor, etc. JG should not have been given any more consideration that JFF. Neither should have been given the time of day. Nothing about him said. "Keep him". It's the old saying of first time shame on you, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th shame on me.

They were both given consideration based on their talent in College. One was selected in the supplemental draft and one was taken in the first round of the NFL draft. One was given a longer leash because when he did play he played at an All-Pro level the other one sucked to put it nicely when he played. Talent rules all in the NFL and of course a troubled talented guy is going to get more chances then a troubled guy who struggles to pick up the game.

The thing that pissed me off the most about JM was his lackadaisical attitude towards his job as an NFL QB.

He could’ve given more effort, which may or may not have been reflected in his on the field play.

Judging from his letter to Baker Mayfield, it sounds like JM has a few regrets...not as many as Browns fans though.

Well I am playing him this coming week in FF. I think he's had enough time to adjust to Brady and vice versa. Had 100 yds this week with no TDs.

Plus I have 4 WR/RB types out with injuries so not a lot choice coming up.

    Saved me typing time...

I'll only add that once upon a time JG showed a work ethic (which by all accounts has been revived in NE).

JFF? Never did... all the "1st guy in... last guy out" we were spoon fed by a fan onslaught was pure BS... a College Station myth. And he was drag on Gordon's potential.

  • So you got to wonder what exactly it was about Cleveland that Josh Gordon was so desperate to get away from? Seems like everybody that over backwards to give him the benefit of the doubt.

    Not the first...

    Hopefully is the last.

Considering the narrowness of some of these losses...in theory, if he had been in there helping according to his talent,  those losses could have turned into wins.  (and considering how much dropped passes have contributed to the losses).  So,  Fuyck him if he is thinking that way.

Besides, I don't think it is any of that.  I don't even think he even wanted out of here. I don't think he put any thought into that.  I just think he was doing his somewhat normal Josh Gordon irresponsible behavior thing....and Dorsey  for one wasn't going to put up with it and got rid of him.

That's exactly how I feel.  I never got the impression he didn't want to be here.  The guy did a photoshoot WITH the team's permission, and then did something stupid by running 40 yard dashes and working out too hard resulting in injury.  He made yet another mistake, and it hurt his team (again).  Then he was 10 minutes late to a meeting or something, and somebody reported that he "didn't look right" or whatever.  Josh Gordon needed money and needed it immediately.  He made a poor choice to do physical workouts in the photoshoot because he needed money to pay a greedy woman who did nothing more than have sex and have a baby.  Congratulations, you had a baby.  People do it everyday.  It's a beautiful thing, and no easy task.  But it's not worth taking thousands of dollars from someone, and then trying to blackmail them if they don't pay up.  Should he pay child support?  Of course.  But there's no reason to pay her what the court ordered.

I think it was a hasty decision to cut him.  At this particular moment, it's really costing us, and there's no denying it.  But while we're definitely losing out on this trade now, the Patriots could lose Josh Gordon forever at any second, and we'll still have the 5th round pick.  If Josh makes it through the entire year, well, we'll look like idiots.  We traded an elite WR for pennies on the dollar, and it'll be just another sad trade in a long line of them.

What about the fact that the hamstring was miraculously healed by the time he got to New England?    The MRI he did when he got to New England showed no hamstring injury?    How is that someone who wants to play for the Browns.

That is stupid.  Of course he must pay what the court ordered.  He may have been his own worst enemy in that situation.  I have seen it many times.   Child support is based on parties incomes.....and can be adjusted when that income adjusts.....BUT...the party, in this case the Dad, HAS to take affirmative steps to get the CS reduced.  He can't just sit on his arse and expect to not have to pay.  Get the lawyer and file the motion to reduce. Do not sit there and do nothing.  This may be what happened here.   He was making yay many thousand/millions of dollars a year.......but if his income is reduced, then he has to go to court quickly to reduce it, not just sit there like a lump on a log.  This happens so often...and may have happened here because of his lackadaisical approach to life.

Hasty?  It was really 5 years in the coming. Nothing hasty about it.

  • You guys are still talking about Gordon? Man I stopped following him and I’m trying to forget about that guy, like an ex. I wish him the best and all but....

That guy let down Cleveland about as much as LeBron did when he “took he talents to South Beach”

Go figure him and Kyrie end up in the same town. F$&% Boston.. lol
