So who gives a shite about what they call it in Florida? Florida just an extension of the Northeast.
We live in a Blue state!! I just wonder what the "other" could be.

Here is my answer:
- "Tonic" is used in eastern Massachusetts and parts of Maine and New Hampshire. Its usage has been gradually declining in favor of "soda." In some areas, "tonic" is still understood to mean "soft drink," but many regard it as an antiquated term.[10]
- "Soda pop" is used by some speakers, especially in the Mountain West. "Soda" or "drinks" is common in Idaho and Utah.
- "Drink", "cold drink", and "soda" are locally common in southern Virginia and theCarolinas, spreading from there as far as Louisiana.
- "Soda water" is used in more rural parts of the US.
- "Soft drink" or "cold drink" is the phrase of choice in New Orleans, and most of east Texas as far west as the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex (although in the DFW Metroplex itself the usage is somewhat colloquial).
- At many restaurants in the U.S., the products of only a single major beverage producer, such as The Coca-Cola Company or PepsiCo, are available. While most patrons requesting a "coke" may be truly indifferent as to which cola brand they receive, the careful server will confirm intent with a question like "Is Pepsi OK?" Similarly, 7 Up or Sprite orSierra Mist may indicate any clear, carbonated, citrus-flavoured drink at hand. The generic uses of these brand names does not affect the local usage of the words "pop" or "soda" to mean any carbonated beverage.

And sodi pop in some deep east Texas backwoods places when asking your cousin for a date, i.e. "Wanna go for a sodi pop darlin'?"?
️??

That's surprising, considering how many people in Florida are originally from the North.

Good point...come to think of it, I don't recall hearing anyone say "when I retire I'm moving to Ohio".

I have. My sister moved from Florida to Ohio when she retired. Lived there 35 years.

We know some people who have retired to the gulf side of FLA that have been thinking of relocating, some all the way back north.
This red tide isn't helping along with a lot of other "social", environmental and other reasons. One told me how they sold everything up north came south and might be stuck there now. A really hot year this year too around Ft. Meyers, Sanibel, etc. But nice place to visit in the winter.

So much for hating to shovel snow.

We use the term pop in WV. Always been that even growing up.
-
Weather at least looks decent. I expect to get my drink on at about 8 at the latest. Maybe earlier. Doesn't have to be a huge tailgate. I have my cooler I'm gonna bring up that it painted like a Brown's helmet. Time to christen it

To echo Gipper- my Father in law and his wife moved back to Toledo (for reasons unknown, maybe to be closer to the kids) after living for many years in retirement just south of Clearwater. Florida is nice say November through March, but after that- if you hate heat, you're out of luck. My wife went down in July to visit her Mom and told me- it's so hot, you could jump in a swimming pool and not cool off.
One of my pals says that's why the mid south is booming- they're getting the halfbacks. Folks originally from the north who can't stand the heat and move "half" of the way back.
Think I've mentioned the hottest football game I've ever been at was during the Couch era in Tampa, in October. 95 degrees, I was sitting there sweat pouring off of me being dry roasted in the sun. Totally not enjoyable. The guy I was staying with in Bellaire for the recent Bucs game told me even some of the locals want a domed stadium to make the conditions more tolerable early in the season.
Another thing- folks living in Florida have been relatively lucky- so far. You get a storm like Michael take a direct hit on Tampa or the east coast anywhere from Miami north to Fort Lauderdale- it's curtains. And it will happen eventually.

Freshly painted stripes. Orange looks light in this but it's a little darker than this. Damn florescent garage lighting.
Uhm, that looks yellow and black.

Its why the term "Snowbird" is so prevalent. You go to Florida for like the months of January, April and part of March and then come home.
That would be my plan someday soon.....though I am almost positive that Florida would not be the place I would go for the winters. My daughter lives in San Antonio and my brother lives in Prescott AZ, plus I have other friends out there in Sedona and other parts of AZ. Those two would be the more probable destinations for my future winter plans when/if I decide to fully retire.

It kind of looks like a butternut squash but flourescent lights can play tricks with reflected colors.
Or a yellow orange on the color wheel....but enjoy it at the game!
