One of the options king did not list is making Kitchens the HC. It's truly the only way to lock him in...

He may be under contract as our OC, but if a team wants to interview him for their HC slot, they can.

  • Here’s a little blurb by Albert Breer found in his MMQB article. . .

    5. Here’s the value of good scouting, and scouting the person as much as the player. Where the public seems legitimately surprised at how Baker Mayfield has galvanized the Browns, there are plenty of folks in NFL personnel departments who aren’t shocked in the least how this has all played out. In my story about the Jets’ pursuit of Sam Darnold from May, you’ll see the anecdote lining up the grades of Darnold and Mayield. In there, Jets player personnel executive Zach Truty, who was responsible for grading Mayfield, gave the Heisman Trophy winner execeeding rare perfect scores of “9” as a teammate, leader and worker. All of which, safe to say, is showing up in Cleveland.

  • I think Williams will stay because he has the HC gig and he’s doing a great job.

Maybe Kitchens will stay another year.. to finish some unsettled business

  • Hire Arians and Kitchens will most likely stay.

I just wonder would Dorsey even consider Arians. He's been campaigning for the job hard but media seem to think McCarthy got the job because of his ties from FO. I hate the idea of Baker already having to learn a 2nd offense in his 2nd year when he is playing well in the 1st one but I guess if Goff can do it, Baker can too.

I seen that. That hurts the HC candidate pool unless they already know a guy who will take the job and doesn't have an issue with it. I remember WAS did that with Zorn and it didn't work out well.

I've been reading over the last few days, that several unnamed NFL teams have expressed an interest in Kitchens.

I'm sure that, combined with Baker thriving in Freddy's system prompted the signing.

Difference being that Goff was not doing well in the first scheme and Baker is excelling in his.

  • Here's Baker's response to the game being sold out.

"I just found out this Sunday's game is sold out," Mayfield said. "I appreciate you guys. I know I called you out. I thank you guys for buying all the tickets, being there for the support, I appreciate it a lot. I'm so excited to see you on Sunday. But it's not just about being there, you've got to be loud too. We want the energy there, we want it to be very exciting for the last home game, finishing off the season on the right note. And I appreciate you guys, thank you very much."

I love this guy, and I love the color rush jerseys. I know our players do too.

No kidding. It's gonna be cranked UP. It's funny, so many times it feels like we're almost WAITING for the season to end (same with players), and now you get the sense our guys don't want it to be over.

I believe it was sold out or close to it last game as well, people just didnt show up. I was pretty surprised by the amount of empty seats based on the way the teams been playing.

  • This interview with Kitchens is impressive. Also interesting to note the commentary at about the 2 minute mark when he answers as to who made him the OC. Overall this guy sounds like a good head coach candidate to me. I would love to see him groomed by Arians for a year and let loose.

  • I liked the polite way Kitchens called Glazer a liar about that hack piece.

  • Freddie Kitchens needs to stay with the Browns forever. He's the real deal. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

I really enjoy listening to both Williams AND Kitchens in their press conferences.  A good coordinator is often tethered to a good QB, and Freddie probably knows that he's got something with Baker, and the future could be very bright.  I also heard something interesting yesterday (I forget where, sorry), but the talking head on TV was essentially saying, "The way it's trending right now, Freddie Kitchens is going to be a head coach in the next 2-3 years, if not NEXT year.  He's 44 years-old, and when you look at the resume, you start to see just how viable a candidate he really is.  So if you're the Browns, the question is, 'Do we want to possibly GROOM Freddie Kitchens (as our OC) for the next couple of years just so he can go ELSEWHERE to be a head coach, or do we want to just roll the dice NOW and hire Kitchens as the head coach and keep him in Cleveland?'"

I hadn't really thought of it that way, but I guess it makes sense.  Or perhaps like you said, do we hire Arians on as the head coach, with Freddie Kitchens lined up as the successor?  Arians isn't getting younger, and his health isn't always the best.  Perhaps Arians wants one more shot at it, coaches for 3 more years, and then hands the keys over to Freddie?  I don't know, but I think I'd be perfectly cool with that approach.  The other question would be, what do you do with Gregg Williams?  I haven't been THRILLED with the defense this year, but we're scrappy and while we give up a bunch of yards, they've come through lately when we need them.  I also believe the players like working hard for Gregg.  Can you really have the current head coach go back to being the DC?  I just don't know.

Was there for the Panthers game. Yup, plenty of empty seats in the 500 and Club levels. Never have been able to figure out why you'd spend $500 bucks on a pair of Club seats and not use them. The 100 level has been completely sold out for years. I'm in 111, and still way too many Panthers fans there a few weeks ago. Look for the number of opposing fans being able to buy Browns tickets on StubHub to shrink dramatically next year.

1-15,   0-16,  3-13.....consistently does that.   It won't be that way again next year at all, I predict.

    I predict your right.

I’m smelling a hike in ticket prices next year.
