They are saying that the  Temperature for the game in KC Sunday could get down to as low as  -5 degrees F.      This  would make it one of the coldest games in NFL history.....Here are the coldest:

    1. The Ice Bowl  1967  Green Bay  Packers/Cowboys  -15

    2. The Steam Bowl  Cincinnati...  -9   -59 wind chill

    3. 1996  Kansas City   Chiefs v. Colts  -6

    4. Red Right 88   Cleveland  Browns vs. Raiders  -5 deg.

    5. 1/20/08 Green Bay  Packers v. Giants  -4   -24 wind chill

    6. 12/3/72   Minnesota (when they played outside)   vs. Bears  -2

....12/10/72  Minnesota.... Vikings vs. Packers  -0- deg.

    7. 12/26/93 Green Bay  Packers vs. Raiders  -0-

    8. 1/15/94  Buffalo   Bills vs. Raiders   -0- deg.

I know people who were there. Some of the pipes were freezing in the bathrooms- creating a real mess........  BTW, -59 wind chill is inaccurate, and impossible at "just" -9, that's according to NOAA's wind chill chart- about as official as it gets....

I think I've mentioned a few times that same day was the coldest one I've ever experienced.  We were at Snowshoe West Virginia skiing.  I've pointed out us mountaineers know the temperature drops 4 degrees for every 1,000 feet of elevation gain. The resort is up at the top, at 5,000 feet+.  The air temperature was -29, in a howling gale that put the wind chill somewhere around -72. Cars wouldn't start, and guys were getting frostbite in the time it was taking to pull batteries out of cars to take them inside to warm them up...

Three of these games in Green Bay.   Two in Minn..pre dome (they would have had a lot more worse if they had not been playing in a dome since the mid 70(same with Detroit).  Two in KC.  1 in Cinci.....1 in Buffalo;  1 in Cleveland.

But, oddly....none of the Top Ten were in Chicago/Pitt/Phil/NY/NE

Ahhhhh yes new NFL history and memories yet to be made.

Kind of reminds me of some great BROWNS times at that Ol' Muni on the lake in the 1970s and 80s.  😁

GO BUCKEYES, BROWNS, INDIANS, CAVS, YSU, NAVY and yes I like ND!

Are you referring to the “freezer bowl”? Bengals/Chargers AFC championship in the early ‘80s?

The coolest story l ever heard about that game was where a bunch of happy and likely very liquored up fans tried to swing a bridge after the game.

Cincy has a suspension bridge that connects downtown to northern Kentucky. It’s basically a large bridge suspended by big steel cables, and was essentially the test run for the much larger Brooklyn bridge in NY, and for years and years and years it is a very common thing for fans to park in northern KY (cuz it’s cheap or free to park there) and walk across the river to attend Reds or Bengals games.

Anywho, l don’t know how it started or why (likely drunks stumbling in lockstep), but someone got the bright idea that if enough people throw their weight back and forth along the walkways on either side of the bridge, it could be swung. So they gave it a shot.

From the way the story was relayed to me, they had some degree of success. Cops were called. People were arrested.

I’ve never been able to find a news article on it or anything, and frankly l may be mixing this story up with the other AFC championship played in Cincy in the late 80s.

As funny as it seems, swinging the bridge could work. To make that happen you have to reach it's resonance frequence, and you can make that happen with people moving at the same time. Maybe it is hard to get that with drunk people, though.

In fact, infantry armies would break a march to cross a bridge because they could damage it and even destroy it.

Yup, that's the game. Always been called the Freezer  Bowl  locally..  Never heard the bridge story though. Know which one you're talking about. Wouldn't have been funny if they had collapsed it.

Some folks showed up at the game with no idea how to dress in that kind of weather. A thin leather jacket doesn't cut it when it's well below zero.

Are you referring to the “freezer bowl”? Bengals/Chargers AFC championship in the early ‘80s?

Freezer Bowl...Steam Bowl...(the Ohio River was emitting steam because it was so cold during that game..of course it wasn't really steam..it was condensation.

The coolest story l ever heard about that game was where a bunch of happy and likely very liquored up fans tried to swing a bridge after the game.

Cut like a razor blade so fast
                              Other DJ's say, "damn"
If my rhyme was a drug
I'd sell it by the gram
Keep my composure when it's time to get loose
Magnetized by the mic while I kick my juice
                              If there was a problem
                              Yo, I'll solve it!
Check out the hook while my DJ revolves it
                              Ice ice baby Vanilla
                              Ice ice baby Vanilla

                              Ice ice baby Vanilla
Yo man, let's get out of here
                              Word to your mother
                              Ice ice baby
                              Too cold

I was at the Steelers at Browns game back in 2009 and that was 1 of the coldest days I ever remember Football or No Football. It helped that we won but Damn it was COLD. There was NO tailgating for me as we went to and from the stadium rt before kickoff (it was a Thursday night game) and when it was over made a b line for my Explorer I had at the time and started it and turned he furnace aka heater on high and just sat until traffic died off. BRRRRRR

Oh....by the way.....NOW they are saying that the game in KC may be in the 20s.   They revived their forecast apparently.

Yeah, and Ohio gets the cold weather....  Temps dropping below zero Sunday night, under mostly clear skies. Total eclipse of the Moon Sunday evening for those who didn't know...  Going to be rather brisk being outside for us astronomers, and anyone who wants to stick their head outside a few minutes for a look. Partial eclipse starts around 10:30 EST, total around 11:40, and mid eclipse just after midnight, for those who stay up late.  🙂
