Three of these games in Green Bay.   Two in Minn..pre dome (they would have had a lot more worse if they had not been playing in a dome since the mid 70(same with Detroit).  Two in KC.  1 in Cinci.....1 in Buffalo;  1 in Cleveland.

But, oddly....none of the Top Ten were in Chicago/Pitt/Phil/NY/NE

  • Looks perhaps to be the same list...from a different source:

Date Location Teams Temperature Wind Chill
31 December 1967 Green Bay, WI Dallas Cowboys at Green Bay Packers -13 -48
10 January 1982 Cincinnati, OH San Diego Chargers at Cincinnati Bengals -9 -59
7 January 1995 Kansas City, MO Indianapolis Colts at Kansas City Chiefs -6 -15
4 January 1981 Cleveland, OH Oakland Raiders at Cleveland Browns -5 -20
20 January 2008 Green Bay, WI New York Giants at Green Bay Packers -4 -24
3 December 1972 Minneapolis, MN Chicago Bears at Minnesota Vikings -2 -26
15 January 1994 Buffalo, NY Los Angeles Raiders at Buffalo Bills 0 -32
26 December 1993 Green Bay, WI Los Angeles Raiders at Green Bay Packers 0 -20
10 December 1972 Minneapolis, MN Green Bay Packers at Minnesota Vikings 0 -18
22 December 1990 Green Bay, WI Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers 2 -16

  • Ahhhhh yes new NFL history and memories yet to be made.

Kind of reminds me of some great BROWNS times at that Ol' Muni on the lake in the 1970s and 80s.  😁

Are you referring to the “freezer bowl”? Bengals/Chargers AFC championship in the early ‘80s?

The coolest story l ever heard about that game was where a bunch of happy and likely very liquored up fans tried to swing a bridge after the game.

Cincy has a suspension bridge that connects downtown to northern Kentucky. It’s basically a large bridge suspended by big steel cables, and was essentially the test run for the much larger Brooklyn bridge in NY, and for years and years and years it is a very common thing for fans to park in northern KY (cuz it’s cheap or free to park there) and walk across the river to attend Reds or Bengals games.

Anywho, l don’t know how it started or why (likely drunks stumbling in lockstep), but someone got the bright idea that if enough people throw their weight back and forth along the walkways on either side of the bridge, it could be swung. So they gave it a shot.

From the way the story was relayed to me, they had some degree of success. Cops were called. People were arrested.

I’ve never been able to find a news article on it or anything, and frankly l may be mixing this story up with the other AFC championship played in Cincy in the late 80s.

As funny as it seems, swinging the bridge could work. To make that happen you have to reach it's resonance frequence, and you can make that happen with people moving at the same time. Maybe it is hard to get that with drunk people, though.

In fact, infantry armies would break a march to cross a bridge because they could damage it and even destroy it.

Yup, that's the game. Always been called the Freezer  Bowl  locally..  Never heard the bridge story though. Know which one you're talking about. Wouldn't have been funny if they had collapsed it.

Some folks showed up at the game with no idea how to dress in that kind of weather. A thin leather jacket doesn't cut it when it's well below zero.

Freezer Bowl...Steam Bowl...(the Ohio River was emitting steam because it was so cold during that game..of course it wasn't really steam..it was condensation.

    o, VIP, let's kick it!
    Ice ice baby
    Ice ice baby
    All right stop
    Collaborate and listen
Ice is back with my brand new invention

    Will it ever stop?
    Yo, I don't know
Turn off the lights and I'll glow
To the extreme, I rock a mic like a vandal
Light up a stage and wax a chump like a candle

Quick to the point, to the point no faking
I'm cooking MC's like a pound of bacon
Burning them if they're not quick and nimble

I'm on a roll and it's time to go solo

Gunshots ranged out like a bell
    I grabbed my nine
    All I heard were shells
Fallin' on the concrete real fast
Jumped in my car, slammed on the gas
Bumper to bumper the avenue's packed

Miami's on the scene just in case you didn't know it
My town, that created all the bass sound
Enough to shake and kick holes in the ground
'Cause my style's like a chemical spill
Feasible rhymes that you can vision and feel
    Conducted and formed
This is a hell of a concept
We make it hype and you want to step with this
Shay plays on the fade, slice it like a ninja
Cut like a razor blade so fast
    Other DJ's say, "damn"
If my rhyme was a drug
I'd sell it by the gram
Keep my composure when it's time to get loose
Magnetized by the mic while I kick my juice
    If there was a problem
    Yo, I'll solve it!
Check out the hook while my DJ revolves it
    Ice ice baby Vanilla
    Ice ice baby Vanilla
    Ice ice baby Vanilla
    Ice ice baby Vanilla
Yo man, let's get out of here
    Word to your mother
    Ice ice baby
    Too cold
    Ice ice baby
    Too cold too cold
    Ice ice baby
    Too cold too cold
    Ice ice baby
    Too cold too cold

Yes, I had to go there:

    o, VIP, let's kick it!
    Ice ice baby
    Ice ice baby
    All right stop
    Collaborate and listen
Ice is back with my brand new invention
Something grabs a hold of me tightly
Then I flow that a harpoon daily and nightly
    Will it ever stop?
    Yo, I don't know
Turn off the lights and I'll glow
To the extreme, I rock a mic like a vandal
Light up a stage and wax a chump like a candle
    Dance
Bum rush the speaker that booms
I'm killin' your brain like a poisonous mushroom
Deadly, when I play a dope melody
Anything less that the best is a felony
    Love it or leave it
    You better gain way
    You better hit bull's eye
    The kid don't play
    If there was a problem
    Yo, I'll solve it
Check out the hook while my DJ revolves it
    Ice ice baby Vanilla
    Ice ice baby Vanilla
    Ice ice baby Vanilla
    Ice ice baby Vanilla
Now that the party is jumping
With the bass kicked in, the fingers are pumpin'
Quick to the point, to the point no faking
I'm cooking MC's like a pound of bacon
Burning them if they're not quick and nimble
I go crazy when I hear a cymbal
And a hi hat with a souped up tempo
I'm on a roll and it's time to go solo
    Rollin in my 5.0
With my ragtop down so my hair can blow
    The girlies on standby
    Waving just to say hi
    Did you stop?
    No, I just drove by
Kept on pursuing to the next stop
I busted a left and I'm heading to the next block
    That block was dead
Yo so I continued to a1a Beachfront Ave
Girls were hot wearing less than bikinis
    Rock man lovers driving Lamborghini
Jealous 'cause I'm out getting mine
Shay with a gauge and Vanilla with a nine
Ready for the chumps on the wall
The chumps are acting ill because they're so full of eight balls
Gunshots ranged out like a bell
    I grabbed my nine
    All I heard were shells
Fallin' on the concrete real fast
Jumped in my car, slammed on the gas
Bumper to bumper the avenue's packed
I'm tryin' to get away before the jackers jack
    Police on the scene
    You know what I mean
They passed me up, confronted all the dope fiends
    If there was a problem
    Yo, I'll solve it
Check out the hook while my DJ revolves it

  • I was at the Steelers at Browns game back in 2009 and that was 1 of the coldest days I ever remember Football or No Football. It helped that we won but Damn it was COLD. There was NO tailgating for me as we went to and from the stadium rt before kickoff (it was a Thursday night game) and when it was over made a b line for my Explorer I had at the time and started it and turned he furnace aka heater on high and just sat until traffic died off. BRRRRRR

  • Oh....by the way.....NOW they are saying that the game in KC may be in the 20s.   They revived their forecast apparently.

Yeah, and Ohio gets the cold weather....  Temps dropping below zero Sunday night, under mostly clear skies. Total eclipse of the Moon Sunday evening for those who didn't know...  Going to be rather brisk being outside for us astronomers, and anyone who wants to stick their head outside a few minutes for a look. Partial eclipse starts around 10:30 EST, total around 11:40, and mid eclipse just after midnight, for those who stay up late.  🙂
