There is no fucking way that a volleyball player gets paid  500,000...anything, dollars, euros.  Here anyway.  This must be some European League where they don't even have football or baseball.

  • I had to check from Lacrosse Pal:

The Major League Lacrosse (MLL) and the National Lacrosse League (NLL) are the two major lacrosse leagues in the United States, and while the MLL has nine teams, the NLL has 11.

    • For NLL, rookies are played a little over $9,000 with the highest paid franchise player in the league making around $34,000 which is less than four times what the rookie player makes.
    • As for the MLL, the rookie salary is $7,000, with other players making between $10,000 and $35,000 per season.

For the professional female (women) lacrosse players, there is the United Women’s Lacrosse League (UWLX) which comprises four teams. Women lacrosse players do not get salaries, but the league offers travel stipends. UWLX was launched quite recently in 2016, so perhaps with time, and as the sport grows, women professional players will eventually start earning a salary.

There you go.  If baseball, football, basketball were no more popular than LaCrosse is, then you all would not be complaining about their salaries.  All market based. If you don't go to games, or watch, or buy paraphenalia, then they would not be making shite.

When was the last time anyone here went to a professional lacrosse game....or even watched one on TV?

I do know, however, that it is becoming quite popular around here anyway as a high school sport.   Maybe in a few years it will take off a bit like soccer has some.

FYI, when I was in school....soccer did NOT exist as an interscholastic sport.  It simply was not played. The only sports were:  football, baseball, basketball, cross country, wrestling, track, golf, tennis.

Now...you have soccer, volleyball, lacrosse...and who knows what else.

Here is the lacrosse schedule for the school my wife works at, and where my kids went.  (Neither played). Note, it is played in the spring:

In a quick look a Turkish female player make 1.2M € and at today's exchange rate of 1.11 would be about $1,332,000.

So there you go basic Econ 101 and that supply and demand thing at work.

Now if you're a 6' 5" LHP in the USA and can accurately throw a 95 mph fastball you'd probably make about $25,000,000/year.

If your name is Arnold or Sylvester and can make things blow up you can make about $20,000,000 for about 3 months work making movies.

Economics and the suckers that make it work.    😕

    1) Collectively? Probably. Individually there isn't a prostitute in the world hauling down over $100 million.

    2) Only in your aged mind Gipper. Some old fuddy duddies like you missed (and are missing) the boat...  NBCSN is broadcasting plenty of the Premier League. Of course, you probably don't know what that is, and ESPN is starting to put MLS on. With the XFL starting up, I have a suggestion that would 100% guarantee the post Luck Colts (and any other NFL team) wouldn't tank. Do it the soccer way- the bottom two teams in the standings get shipped off to the XFL. 😁 😁 😁

I've said it before- the anti soccer goofs have their collective heads up their asses to not realize what's inevitable here in the States. The big soccer wave is coming in- whether you like it or not- just get used to the idea. Probably more kids playing soccer now than football, and when they get old enough I wouldn't doubt watching soccer on TV is going to be their preferred sport. Soccer is the unquestioned #1 sport in the world, and that's not even debatable. The world wide viewership for the men's World Cup Final dwarfs TV ratings for the Super Bowl.

BTW- the ever increasing salaries in Major League baseball aren't sustainable. Ratings go down, TV revenue goes down right along with it.

Ok speaking about the free enterprise system:

Welcome to Money Diaries, where we're tackling what might be the last taboo facing modern working women: money. We're asking millennials how they spend their hard-earned money during a seven-day period — and we're tracking every last dollar.

Today: A legal sex worker in Nevada, who recovered from an appendix surgery last year and has booked a $1 million this year.

    Occupation: Legal Sex Worker
    Industry: Sex Work
    Age: 20s
    Location: Mound House, NV
Salary: It varies. I typically bring in mid-six figures. My first year, I booked $511,000, pocketing half of that as my income pre-expenses. The house takes 50% of whatever I book. My second year, I booked $712,000, and I’m on track to book $1.2 million for 2018

Can anyone besides you even name an American soccer player?  I can think of one:   Michael Landon or something. NBCSN is pushing soccer because it cannot get ahold of any decent sports programming, and it has to fill air time.  (Like Sundays at eight AM)

Doesn't make it any less gay and boring just because eurofags like it.

And  would bet that in any particular country...they do not get rating for the WC that  the SB gets here. (except, maybe in those countries that are in it)

You consider  soccer boring because frankly  you don't want to  understand  it. Calling  people who like the sport  soccer fags pretty  much nails your bias baseball  fag. That's why American football is of little importance in  say, China.

I tend to take a wider view of sport than your narrow parochial  vision. LOL if it's not American, it doesn't matter.

Go to most any community park this time of year and see the parking lot filled with cars. Wonder why? That’s all the local kids there playing soccer. Call it what you like but it’s very popular anymore. I bet more American children play soccer now than little league baseball and youth football leagues combined.

It is not ignorant...it is just that I don't need to have it shoved down my throat.  And that is exactly what is happening. Maybe I want to shove my lacrosse bias down your collective throats.  Now, that is a real American sport....invented by Native Americans..and one of its best players ever was Jim Brown.

There's truckloads of soccer fans down the road in Columbus who would  tell you the starting lineup of the Crew without  looking  it up. Interest in the Premier  league is growing  exponentially.

Columbus is a minor league market.  They just wanted to have something to keep them amused, since they are not significant enough to have baseball football or basketball.

You consider  soccer boring because frankly  you don't want to  understand  it.

Actually, I understand it pretty well.  Well enough to know where changes should be made to make it better.

Calling  people who like the sport  soccer fags pretty  much nails your bias baseball  fag.

I learned to call them soccer fags from Zombo. Take it up with him.

That's why American football is of little importance in  say, China.

Soccer is not all that important in China.  I mean, badminton and ping pong are more popular.

I tend to take a wider view of sport than your narrow parochial  vision. LOL if it's not American, it doesn't matter.

Perhaps a bit.  I mean, you want to shove foreign BS down our throats....why should we not object to that.  I mean, what next...are you going to protest because McDonald's doesn't sell like snails and frog legs and haggis?

  • Go to most any community park this time of year and see the parking lot filled with cars. Wonder why? That’s all the local kids there playing soccer. Call it what you like but it’s very popular anymore. I bet more American children play soccer now than little league baseball and youth football leagues combined.

Soccer the world's most popular sport, why, it's cheap and easy and has been played in some form going back almost 2,000 years.

Fun to play, I did in high school as part of our off-season football workouts (more like full contact soccer).

It's just boring to watch. And this dead horse has been beat to death probably a million times in the USA. 😴

It IS good cardiovascular.  It IS simple to play....not nearly as much skill level involved.  Hitting a round ball with a round bat is very hard and takes a lot of skill.  And as someone said...it is cheap.  You don't need the equipment that football, baseball, basketball etc. require.  (although..when we were kids, we didn't play football much with any equipment.  Just the ball and a field...didn't even need a goal post.  But, it was violent.  The way the pro soccer players play it, they can get hurt, as they are always banging heads.  The way kids play it...no headers, no bicycle kicks etc. that can cause injury.  Unless you are playing flag or tap football...it is meant to be a contact/collision game.

Putting together a professional football, baseball even hockey and basketball team is very expensive in equipment and facilities NOT even counting the salaries.

Soccer can be played virtually anywhere.

You nailed it ffd. I have no doubt in my mind when all these kids are in their 20s and 30s and the old anti-soccer crowd  croaks, soccer will be  challenging the NFL in popularity here. Said way back in the late  90s when  soccer  was taking off,  we'd eventually have some homegrown stars who could  compete at the highest level. Check. When those who played as kids  started  coaching the junior  play would  improve.  Check. And Gipper is full of  shit  if he thinks there's no talent involved  to play the sport. Check. You need virtually  a marathon  runners  endurance  and plenty of  talent to play the sport  at the highest level.  Ask Chris Collinsworth about  that when a Cincinnati club soccer team creamed a group of the Bengals on a bet.

Probably why soccer is  gaining  in popularity.  Shoes, uniform, and  a field. Ahem- pitch to be proper.

Having played hockey, it's probably the  most expensive sport of all  to get involved in.  You're not  only paying for  ice  time, equipment is crazy expensive if you're  not buying  junk. If I wanted to get back to playing goalie on a senior team, I'd be  looking at at least $3,000 in equipment, probably  more.

I never said there was no talent...I said it did not involve the same skill level...at its basic level.   And oh...What was that bet on?  Running distances? No shit Sherlock, that is what soccer is all about...and about all they do...run around all day.  That would be like football players to challenge NBA players to a slam dunk contest.  How about the soccer players challenge the football players to like King of the Hill or Smear the Queer.   See who wins that.

We used to play hockey in the winter on the nearby swamp.  Didn't need any of that.  As long as the ice was frozen.  We played in our boots, no skates. Used sticks we found off trees. Used a rock for a puck and just like an old chair or a bucket for the goal.

It was the Cinci slugs against the Bengals- real soccer match kiddo. Bengals even had their kicker Horst Muhlman who played soccer in Germany as their goalie. The Bengals quit when they were down 10-0. Their far superior athletic ability got trumped by superior talent. In case you're wondering I didn't make this up. I heard it from Collinsworth himself.   Wah, wah. And every pro soccer player would gas 99% of NFL players and do a horizon job on them in a 10k race. You're so anti soccer- why not have soccer players get challenged to a 225 bench press contest with NFL linemen? More selective BS on your part, if you want to pick one facet of ability.

Yeah, I learned to play hockey the same way on a frozen pond- but we at least had skates, and real hockey sticks. Some of those guys couldn't skate too well. I'll tell you this- the level of skating now in HS hockey is in a different world than what it was in 1970. And playing organized hockey now entails a significant financial outlay. Just a pair of skates costs at least $150 bucks.

Well...yea.   The professional soccer challenges the football team..at soccer...and surprise, surprise, surprise...the pro soccer players win big.   How about this....the football team plays the soccer team...at football. What do you think would happen?   Mayhem for the soccer team of course.

Maybe they should have played a baseball game?

A kids soccer ball costs what?  10-12 bucks?  A baseball costs about 6-7 bucks.  A glove a lot more.

A kids football is about 20 bucks.   I checked the prices from Dick's.
