I'm comparing the 1980s to the 2000s from their criteria of long or short term 49ers there are several including coach Walsh.

I know....that is NOT what I asked.  Sure, several 49ers from the 80s to mid 90s are worthy...and are in.  I am asking about anyone since then.

Besides Owens and maybe Patrick Willis.....anyone else from the more recent era qualify.

Frank Gore...if he ever stops playing.

    1 Emmitt Smith+ 18,355 1990-2004 2TM
    2 Walter Payton+ 16,726 1975-1987 chi
    3 Barry Sanders+ 15,269 1989-1998 det
    4 Frank Gore 15,021 2005-2019 4TM

    11 Jim Brown+ 12,312 1957-1965 cle
    12 Marshall Faulk+ 12,279 1994-2005 2TM

Only 2 of those guys aren't in the Hall...and that's because they are still playing.

Case can be made for Justin Smith or Bryant Young.

Of older guys, Roger Craig. He keeps getting on the list every year, but never makes it.

  • Frank Gore good one

If comparing the two teams from day 1 the closest thing the BROWNS have to the 49ers that didn't play in the BROWNS golden era is only Ozzie Newsome 1990.

The niners naturally tailed off some after the Superbowl years with HOF candidates.

So....in other words...you have no answer?

I've been hashing this one over, the mentioned ones already T.O. in now, Gore the ageless one for a RB should be, Willis maybe how about Vernon Davis? Had him on a few FL teams put up good numbers.

In the post  Young/Rice era they hit a dry spell except for a few years and of course the 2012 SB loss amazing how that works losing teams generally don't scream out the great players. Do they have the nucleus now to generate HOF caliber players? We'll see.

  • Interesting read on Monday's game, it's long the rest in the link.......  http://www.vegasinsider.com/nfl/scoreboard/previews/[email protected]/date/10-07-19

    Preview: Browns (2-2) at 49ers (3-0)

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) Three straight wins to open the season haven't erased all the doubts that four years of losing created for the San Francisco 49ers.

There was an ugly win over a perceived also-run in Tampa Bay, a blowout against overmatched Cincinnati and then a mistake-filled victory over Pittsburgh and backup quarterback Mason Rudolph.

Now the degree of difficulty starts to get much more difficult, starting with Monday night's home game against a Cleveland Browns team that has shown early signs of being a legitimate contender in the AFC North.

'A lot of people on this team don't get credit they deserve, so Monday we're going to showcase that,' 49ers receiver Marquise Goodwin said.

Skepticism surrounding the 49ers (3-0) and Browns (2-2) is warranted based on the recent history. The two franchises were the bottom two in the league over the previous four seasons, with Cleveland winning a league-low 11 games in that span and San Francisco not far ahead with only 17.

While a healthy Jimmy Garoppolo at quarterback and a vastly improved defense have transformed the 49ers, the Browns have been a bit more inconsistent this season alternating losses with wins.

But they are hoping last week's 40-25 win at Baltimore is a sign of how a star-studded roster led by second-year quarterback Baker Mayfield, dynamic playmakers Odell Beckham Jr. and Nick Chubb, and dominant force Myles Garrett can be different than past Browns teams.

'We came out with a big win this past weekend, and I feel that just the energy is different,' defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi said. 'You can tell the guys are really fully buying into what we have going on in here and know that everything we want is in front of us. We just have to keep working.'

Here are some other things to watch:……….... CONTINUED IN LINK,..........

  • Things they are a changing well in the NFL that's every week with injuries and suspensions and how about people coming off injuries and suspensions?

Well the main issue discusses how the 49ers have been a bad home favorite for a long time. Let’s let them prove they can perform in the role against a stranger that has lots of offensive firepower. The Browns return speedy WR Antonio Callaway to the lineup for the first time this season. He had a four-game suspension. The 49ers suddenly have to account for a guy who caught 43 balls, 5 for TDs, last season, when there was already Odell Beckham, Jr. and Jarvis Landry. Whoa. Look out, now.

The 49ers have a nice running game that Cleveland should have problems defending against, but they’ve had their red-zone issues and Cleveland’s offense is certainly more explosive than it already was with Callaway on the field. Nick Chubb is one of the fastest running backs around. Wouldn’t want to be sweating out an Under with all the offensive talent on hand here.

SO now what to do? Well take advantage of the new line and take CLE +5 and of course the OVER 46 and enjoy the shootout!  Are you ready for some primetime football?

  • I'm really curious to know how the Vegas books made out on this game.  Did they win lose or break even?

Well, obviously there was a ton of money on the 49ers to cover.

I should have  bet the ranch on the Seahawks +2.5, its probably  about -2.5 now after that MNF debacle.

Run and make your bet. You can still get the Seahawks in a decent bet here.

  • When you compare the history of these two teams one big difference Cleveland hasn't had a HOF player in a long time.

What recent players for the 49ers would be HOFers?  1 or 2 guys...maybe, post Steve Young/Jerry Rice era.

And the one that I can think of is Terrell Owens....as undeserving as he may have been.

    Maybe...Patrick Willis.

Not to mention that at least 6... and as many as 8... of these "Browns' HOFers" made their case predominantly with other teams.

I got 12 San Francisco HOFers who also fall in that category.

11 by my count... but not here to quibble.

What's interesting is the eras that those counts occurred. In our case it was pre-FA; in the 9ers it was post.

Well I did see some information on this game......

    Before the game......

Sharp bettors have been all over the Niners, who are consensus 5-point favorites after the line opened at 3 and climbed as high as 5½. The line is at 4½ at Station Casinos, Circa Sports and Wynn Las Vegas sportsbooks.

South Point oddsmaker Jimmy Vaccaro tweeted that the book took a $55,000 straight bet on San Francisco minus 3½. The Westgate took a $33,000 straight bet on the Niners minus 4 and CG Technology took sharp bets on them at 3½ and 4.

“We’re going to need the Browns,” ........

So I haven't seen any other final numbers but I don't think the sportsbooks made any big money on this game. ON TO CLEVELAND and welcome Seattle on Sunday.  GO BROWNS!

I'd start with my old http://www.vegasinsider.com. and kind of look around the stories and links.  There are sites that chart things like the tick-by-tick line movements and other very detailed things like that.  I haven't been there in a long while but I'll look around later.

I also watch the day-to-day lines particularly the M ----> T line changes which are the most important of the week, shows where the big and "smart" money is going...... just a guide not ever a sure thing.

It's called gambling not sure thing.   😉

A few old but true statements on that game called professional football:

"On any given Sunday (or Thursday or Monday) any team can beat any other team".  (especially with the spread)

"We play to win the game".

"That's why they play the game on the field, not on paper".

Just try to remember that before you put the rent or grocery money on a team, horse or number.  They're all winners right up until it's showtime.   😉

There are two obvious problems in this game against the Seahawks, but I’ll list them anyways because I’m me, and that’s what I do.

Problem 1 – Seattle has extremely physical people on their defense.  We all know their defense isn’t quite the “Legion of Boom” of years past, but they still have some people on their front 7 that would bitch slap Donkey Kong, steal his fried chicken, AND eat it in front of him.  Ok that didn’t really make any sense, but the point is they have some big nasties that are physical, and PHYSICAL is what gives us fits.  Clowney isn’t a sack artist, but he’s basically the most underrated defensive player in the league.  He’s fast, he’s strong, and he’s mean.  He’s probably the best defender against the league vs the run, and he’ll get pressure on the QB as well.  You have to assume they’re licking their chops after watching us last week.

Problem 2 – Russell Wilson.  So, I’m going to be “that guy” for a moment.  The “I tried to tell everyone to draft that guy” guy that nobody likes.  As I’ve said before, I grew up in Tallahassee, FL and attended Florida State University.  I had to watch Russell Wilson torture my Seminoles for what seemed like 17 years in a row, and then MERCIFULLY the guy leaves for Wisconsin, where he went on to terrify another conference.  I was absolutely SCREAMING to draft this guy at the top of my lungs on draft day.  I remember falling down to the ground and throwing my hands up in the air like Tim Robbins from “Shawshank Redemption” while the rain poured down on my face and yelling, “WHHHHYYYYYYY?!!”  It was the absolute easiest QB decision I have literally EVER seen.  And we could’ve gotten him in the 2nd round, or even the 3rd round if we traded up a few spots.  If you’re wondering who we selected instead of Russell Wilson, you’re in luck because I’m going to tell you.  This was the vaunted 2012 draft, where we drafted Trent Richardson, Brandon Weeden, Mitchell Schwartz, John Hughes, Travis Benjamin, and lord knows who else.   I will now throw myself against a brick wall.

Russell Wilson:  73% completion,  14 total TDs (12 passing), 0 interceptions, and 1409 passing yards.

Baker Mayfield:  56% completion, 4 TDs (LOL!), 8 interceptions, and 1220 passing yards.

I’m going to make another post later that describes the problems Seattle will face, but this one’s already too long, so I’m stopping the madness.  It’s definitely not hopeless for us, but it’s also not great either.  We lost two games we really should’ve won, and now it’s time to win a game we probably should’ve lost.  We need some magic, we need some luck, and we need it at home.  If our guys don’t get back to smiling and having fun, it’s going to erupt and the fallout will be miserable for everyone.

But when it's just playmoney, like Monopoly money it makes no difference whether the "gamble" pays off or not. Worst that can happen is I have to find another "playmoney" sports betting spot.?
