I was trained and worked as a lifeguard for some summer holidays, and I remember pretty clearly that we were taught that if we had to rescue someone and we hadn't seen how it had happened and he/she simply was down in the pool, we had to always consider a spine injury and try to treat them accordingly: with our hands to the face and the back of the head, forearms in the back and the chest so we would prevent any neck movement, ask for somebody to put the backboard in the water and and take him/her out with the backboard.

And that was only if we WEREN''T SURE what had happened. We only had to forget about it if once outside the water we had to do RCP (heart and brain have priority over the spine, logically).

Watching Rudolph, who was obviously KOd being removed from the field with no backboard was weird as hell for me. Even if he feels alright you have to be extremely cautious in those cases. If the cart is broken you have hundreds of staff to take him out on a backboard to the hospital, scanner, X rays or whatever.

My wife now a retired nurse who worked in a hospital for 42 years and worked in the ER....and not really a big sports fan like me......was shocked by the whole treatment and helping him off the field and then to the locker room.  They would never handle a patient that way no matter what the specific circumstances were.

And then the cart that wouldn't work and NO backup plan?  Made the Steelers organization look like a bunch of rum-dums.  A training film on what NOT to do in a possible injury like that.

It ain't just weird, it's extremely medically unprofessional. I get the cart "broke down", but it's been widely confirmed they had a 2nd cart ready to go. I'm not a "rag on the Steelers" type but that was handled EXTREMELY poorly, to the point of someone should be hit with discipline.

I don't care that it's the Steelers or Rudolph. Humanly speaking, I would even consider suing them if I were his family. No matter if Rudolph himself wanted to get up on his own. You simply don't let him.

Interesting video.  I'll have to forward it to my good friend who's  a retired  neurologist for fact checking.  He dealt with stuff like this  for 30 years when he was practicing.

He was knocked out cold, MMA style. It looked scary as hell to me but a Steelers fan buddy could tell he was KO’d by watching

Gotta take it with a grain of salt. In the 60s, Doctors were paraded out that said smoking cigarettes is good for you. And 3 out of 4 Drs smoke this brand. There’s too damn many unknowns that go into the workings of the human brain to just say this or that from a distance.

Or, you could watch the video and respond to his actual comment.

The video didn't discuss smoking in the 60's.  If you want to discuss smoking in the 60's, the politics board needs more red herrings!

The only words I take with a grain of salt come from people like you who reflexively distrust anyone who takes it upon themselves to know things.  If you don't like his commentary, you can either get published in JAMA your own results showing a different conclusion to the same situation -- or shut up.

I neither trust or mistrust anybody. I like to see more than one point of view on most things. But Drs do prescribe tons of unneeded opioids which do tremendous damage.  Not all but enough. Just because you’re a MD really doesn’t mean shit. Can you say oxycontin is safe and non addictive?

OK guys, here's the opinion of a Board certified Neurologist about that video......

"Yes, everything is accurate.  This doesn't go without saying, because you maybe saw that he is only a medical resident, not yet even a certified specialist, and of course this is one problem with the internet because there's lots of info from non-credible sources.

From seeing Rudolph's concussion live on TV, I didn't see the release of his tonic neck reflex, but I did see after the early seconds that he was for minutes totally unconscious lying on his back totally flaccid, which tells us he had at the least a bad concussion, and I said at the time they should have put him on a backboard to immobilize his neck as a precaution since they couldn't test for neck pain or paralysis, so I agree they screwed up.  I don't know which part of this interested you.  The tonic neck reflex with archer's posture is interesting, and is something we test to make sure it's present in newborns, in whom it's present because newborns as cute as they may be are still functionally brain dead on a neurologist's examination (i.e., there is no provable sign of brain or at least cerebral cortex activity until after a week or two when they myelinate their cerebral white matter tracts enough so the infant starts to fix and follow with gaze, which is the first sign of conscious brain activity."

The only yappy fufu dog on this forum is TA&M's new mascot.  Don't blame other people for your team sucking it up yesterday!

I don't recall blaming anyone for them losing yesterday. I do credit a very high scoring Alabama QB though along with 5 star athletes across the board.

PS-I never have liked that damn fufu dog the Ags have. Give me the original any day of the week. Just a plain ole Heinz 57 mutt dog.?
