PrintNFL Players Association leaders have scheduled an important meeting Thursday morning with the board of player representatives to discuss the status of collective bargaining talks and get the board's input on how to proceed, according to sources familiar with the plan.

It's a significant step after months of formal and informal bargaining sessions between the union and the NFL, which continues to push for the option to expand the regular season to 17 games as part of the next TV deals as a condition for increasing players' share of revenue and other issues. The current collective bargaining agreement is set to expire in 2021, and both sides want to avoid a work stoppage.

The chances for striking a deal hinge in large part on how players respond to the idea of 17 games. Some players -- including 49ers receiver Emmanuel Sanders, who played 17 regular-season games this year because of a midseason trade -- have already spoken out strongly against it. So the NFL must make it worth their while, financially and otherwise, or else players opposed could band together and try to block it.......... continued in the link........

  • Where are things on the  Marijuana issue?

The disciplinary procedure issue?  the Franchise tag issue   Again, all we have heard about is the 17 game schedule and the added playoff teams.....and money.

Is it the truth that all those other issues that have been SO big in the past....are just swept aside when it comes to getting more money?  And what about the salary cap?

Honestly...I am coming from the point of view that I do NOT want to have more stupid threads about some guy getting suspended for doing dope.....nor have to listen to arguments about whether or not discipline is handed out fairly,  and etc. etc.   BS that has nothing to do with the game.

Well Bernie wants to legalize in in all 50 states because, "Prohibition doesn't work."

  • I’d hate to see football playoffs become like hockey. But two more playoff spots and a longer schedule are likely to happen, if not now then eventually, as they both mean more money.

just what we fucking need....teams at 7 and 9 going to the playoffs....all about the money....bunch of shit....don't like the 17 game schedule either...baseball sucks...nba sucks...now they want to kill the nfl....

  • Meanwhile on the CBA beat......    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001104128/article/2020-salary-cap-projected-at-roughly-200-million

    Published: Feb. 28, 2020 at 12:18 p.m.    Updated: Feb. 28, 2020 at 01:26 p.m.

A potential new Collective Bargaining Agreement has yet to be ratified, but the salary cap is expected to rise once again.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Friday that the NFL and NFLPA are projecting a salary cap of roughly $200 million per team in 2020, per sources. Pelissero added negotiations are ongoing.

If players ratify the CBA, revenue would increase with expanded playoffs, which could cause the figure to rise, depending on whether additional revenue is counted toward salary cap or benefits. Bigger jumps would be expected in 2021 and beyond under the proposed new CBA.

The uncertain salary-cap figure could explain why many teams have been reticent to extend deals or make offers to their pending free agents up to this point in the offseason.

The salary cap was $188.2 million in 2019. This year's figure represents the seventh straight season of at least a $10 million bump.

With the players expected to vote on the CBA, which could happen as early as next week, the new league year, which marks the beginning of free agency, is on track to open on March 18, as scheduled, per Pelissero.

If we had a 17 game schedule, then I guess teams going 7-9 would not make the playoffs, now would they?   8-9?  7-10?
