  • Eight figures to not get hit?

    Where do I sign?

Doesn't even have to be in Romo territory... $17mm/ year.

I'm guessing that he would be over $17M more like ~$20+M and remember his agents are probably shopping FOX, CBS and maybe NFL NETWORK.

Plus here again he's already a gazillionaire and has almost every record that Tom Brady doesn't have outside of maybe another long shot Super Bowl attempt why risk getting carried off the field ?

I'm like you well except for the 40-something where do I sign up for a multi year right figure salary behind the microphone !

This coronavirus thing might change some players ideas about their immortality and maybe sock a few million away and enjoy a healthy life.

  • If he were to take that deal and retire,   then  the Saints would likely be in the market for a QB

    Cam.....or Jameis?

  • They have to do something because Booger McFarland is awful!!

MNF has had a history of being a money losing proposition going all the way back to the later ABC days. I think ESPN who's also had money issues wants a big name or maybe get out of the Monday night slot.

Losing out on Peyton and Romo is two strikes.

Romo...no loss.  Dislike him as an announcer. It seems like with every word he needs to clear his throat.

Peyton?  Not sure why he declined.  After all, what else is he really doing?  Making commercials?

In my opinion they need a former coach.   Ala John Madden   (but NOT John Fox...or Rex Ryan)

I like what he says,  from that standpoint he is very good.  I just can't listen to that scratchy voice.

I get what ya mean.. His voice to me is actually wet and raspy.... But as far as presenting nuances of the game .. He's excellent... It tells me he's a student of the game much like Kosar..

  • For my money Romo is the best analyst working today. And he adds just the right amount of irreverence and criticism.

Brees? Certainly at least match for Tony analytically speaking, but strikes me as a little too Pollyannish to speak his mind.

Maybe he is the best analyst....because they won't give Bernie a job.  Bernie's insights were even better than Romo's,  but apparently the powers that be did not like his Youngstownese accent.   (again, I am not critical of Romo's analytical capabilities....just his vocal quality).

Much better , Tour... Bernie see's things before they even happen.. And He's totally on top of it..... Tony is very good... I just think Kosar is a notch or two better... But.. That said... You can't go wrong with either one of them as far as football smarts , goes...

Bernie only ever did like local preseason broadcasts.  Just wondering if you have been able to catch his broadcasts there in  Texas Hill Country.

  • during some down time.. i sometimes still go back just to listen to Pat Summerall & John Madden..choice of game, most times did not really matter...they were so great at working off one another's thoughts, instant reactions.. For the life of me, I have no clue how espn thought Booger McFarland or Jason Witten were better hires than hiring ...oh let's just say..Joe Thomas !!... If I could make a announcer trade? I would trade Troy Aikman for Tony Romo...Put Tony Romo with Joe Buck.. thoughts? as it stands

    CBS-Jim Nance..Romo

    Fox- Joe Buck..Aikman

    NBC-Al Michaels..Collinsworth

    ESPN-Joe Tessitore..Booger

NFL Network--Joe Buck..Aikman (but London games)

If a announcer trade was doable? who would you team up?

even trading Romo for Collinsworth may be a good change?

Yup... NFL Network's Preseason replays use the local broadcast audio. Years ago it was a half of one team's crew and the other of the other.

Now every game is replayed at least twice so it tends to be one audio on one and one on the other. Now I record a couple of the replays hoping to snag at least one by our guys.

Both Romo and Bernie call the D out and where the QB should look first... etc.

I think Bernie might have had a shot at a color gig, if he hadn't gone overboard that one game dumping in a QB for being garbage... I forget who the hell it was... and it may have been true, but it was mean-spirited. I was embarassed for BK.

Tessitore and Booger flat out suck... Joe and Troy aren't as bad, but I don't care for them much.

The rest are all good in my book, but I probably give Michaels the play-by-play edge over Nance, and Romo the color edge plus a little over Chris.

For my money Nance is still the most versatile announcer in sport.

The only thing that rubs me wrong about Jim  Nantz is he's such a shill for Bill and the Pats...

Good post !.  And it lets you compare and contrast the various #1 broadcast teams in the NFL game.

Also a lot is personal preference on who you you like or dislike.

AND there are a lot of other broadcast teams both professional and college........but are any worth  $xx,xxx, xxx per year?  Apparently the networks think so.

AND does ESPN have a shot at landing Brees at $20,000,000 (+/-) per year,  stay tuned........
