    He is thinking, likely,  that he wants  15 million over 3-4 seasons, which no one wants to come close to giving him. 

  • When you have as many injuries as him thus become an inconsistent asset... Don't expect the teams to fight for you so much.

    Harper had two fantastic seasons, and a lot of "better than average" seasons. Point is, a lot was expected from both, and Bryce Harper isn't Mike Trout, and Clowney isn't Myles Garrett. 

  • My fear is that once again we get a guy who gets the bucks and then lays down for the duration?. How many have we done that with in the last 5 years? The deal has to be tied with incentives or no money. Build in great incentives where he can earn huge bucks and I say go for it. Zip if he just fucks around out there.

  • Clowney needs to get Terrelle Pryor on the phone. A lot of pretty valid rumors he got offered from a good few teams (Browns included) $10-12 million a year on 3 year deal with almost $20 mil guaranteed. Sounds familiar? Clowney is one bad year away from being a league wanderer who everyone remembers for a college play (albeit one of the most awesome college plays I've ever seen live).

    He may be using the BROWNS as a bargaining tool with other teams...... believe it or not those things do go on in the business world.  😮

    Clowney + Garrett sounds like it might be a nice combo but will it happen ?

    That early report was low ball stuff.... around $12mm in a "prove it" deal.

    Now reportedly we're offering $18... and multi-year.

    Another new report from Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk has the Browns allegedly offering $18 million dollars. Which is $3 million more than the Seattle Seahawks, who apparently offered Clowney $15 million but for only one year. Clowney is looking for more than a one-year deal, yet if rumors are to be true then he’s also looking for more than the best deal.

    The Browns allegedly offered Clowney a multi-year deal, and if the $18 million is to believe then that’s easily the best deal that Clowney has been received Clowney came down from his original asking price of $20 million, and it was rumored he came down even further past the $18 million mark.

  • Well....if he does not take a 3 year deal at 18 mill....Then he deserves to have the entire thesaurus roster for synonyms for stupid thrown at him.

  • There is possibly a strategy here that Clowney and his agent are using. 

    The Browns have to commit to Vernon the week before the season starts, assuming they don't have anyone else. If they really want Clowney (and given their offer they do), then Clowney and his agent could be better served waiting until 5 minutes to midnight to see if the Browns up their offer.

    It's not really a risk because no one else is offering Clowney anything close to what the Browns are, so why not wait and see if the Browns panic? He has nothing to lose until a team puts a competing offer on the table. Unless the Browns pull back their offer, which would be unlikely.

    But the Browns could also reduce their offer at that time, and put Clowney in a corner to either take it or wait the season out. That's the risk he is taking, if this is his strategy. But again, I don't know how likely it is that the Browns would do that.

  • Bottom line is I would rather have Clowney over Vernon. 

    Clowney is represented by the same agent who reps Garrett.  Garrett is going to get more than Clowney, so why not try to drive up Clowneys price?   

    I would.  So would all of you.  The NFL limits agents to 3% of a players yearly salary.  Well, 3% of $18,000,000 is $540,000.  Chew on that.  And that doesn't include endorsement contracts.  Agents can make 10-15% of that.  D linemen don't sell many products..  Merlin Olson sold FTD flowers for a long time.  Mean Joe sold Coke products.  Can't think of any others...Alex Karras got some national air.  It would be mostly local stuff that doesn't pay all that much if you are pitching for a local garage door company.
