Browns players taking a knee

So...it is not a matter of how I see things...it is that you express wide differences and contradictions in how say YOU see things yourself.
What is so hard to understand??
A person can be both against and for abortion (I am)
A person can be both for tight boarder security and for legal immigration (I am)
A person can be both for the police and against the bad cops (I am)
A person can be against racism while not supporting the BLM organization (I am)
A person can be both for the right to bear arms yet wants tougher gun ownership regulations (I am)
A person can believe in a higher power (God) yet believe we are not alone in the universe (I do)
A person can be a Browns fan and still pick them to go 6-10 and win the preseason prognostication pole most years (I do)

Maybe my favorite non-football related post I’ve ever read on this site.

Play the Anthem before the players enter the field.
I have always asked: Why is it that it is sports that is the ONLY form of entertainment that the anthem is played? It is not played before you watch a movie, see a play, watch a concert (unless it is Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock)....it is only a sporting event. And not even all sporting events. They don't play it before a golf tournament, a tennis match, and I don't think they play it before boxing matches or like MMA events (I am only speculating here, never having gone to one of those live events.) Just team sports, it seems.

Honestly, that's a good question.
And I wonder if the people who were so up in arms about the kneeling in the first place stand at home when the National Anthem is played before a game when they are watching it on the TV.?

History and art are 2 things l’m driven to protect.
I don’t really see the Confederacy as a big all encompassing thing
You are wildly objectively wrong with this. Those "pieces of art" were created explicitly to remind black people that they are controlled by white people - yes, to justify those towns installing Jim Crow laws. The text of the Cornerstone Speech [first link] shows that Southerners convinced themselves that slavery was good for black people [Just like.. Fox News watchers!] and that whites are naturally better than blacks. There's nothing you're protecting other than racist losers, dude. The Lost Cause is fake news. Poor people getting caught up in things..... is both life and not a justification.
Sure, "put them in museums" is one argument --- except that those statues were deliberately inexpensive. From the second link: It's like they went to the Wal-Mart for statues rather than actually commissioning something marble or granite. What's the difference between keeping for posterity all 143 of your grandmother's cheap and ugly mismatched chotchkys - or just putting her two Tiffany's on a shelf in your family room and landfilling the rest?
To be clear: I'm calling the South losers because they.. lost the war. Not only are their values repugnant, they got their butts whupped.
And the North will do it again each time the South rises again.

The last several posts l’ve read from you have been ginsu sharp. Man you’re really good at this. Poignant, researched and succinct. Hats off.
I threw that out for the duality of it all, and to take my licks. Art and history used to be honorable things to stand up for. Sort of a commentary of the times l suppose. It’s not easy being a middle aged dude relearning things. Thanks for the licks and keep it up.

I’m an unabashed baseball fan, and the anthem is a big deal for me at games. It’s part of the experience. I certainly don’t stand at home watching on tv, but l get a real kick out of the pause in life at games.
Ever been in line for beer when the Anthem happens? Everything pauses. And everyone understands. There is zero boat rocking. It’s really really cool.
That’s the moment man. It all comes together. My ambitions are to want that pause for everyone.

Is that it, or are you standing because that is what is socially expected? (And I'll admit, I get goosebumps EVERY time I hear the anthem live before an Indians game. I get what you are saying and to be honest, while I totally understand why guys are kneeling, I'm not sure I'd be able to do it. But I believe in the choice to do so)
Someone I know posted last night on Facebook about how "When I went to school we said the Pledge of Allegiance every day", basically alluding to that is why older people have more respect for the country, etc... I'm 44, and we said the Pledge every day too - and overwhelmingly the kids I did it with didn't give two fucks about it. Generally, that is what happends when you are forced to do something by rote.

Ah, we are the exact same age. You got an October birthday?
A bit of both l suppose to the first question. That’s actually a good question with rabbit hole answers for me personally.
I took my dad to a Tribe v Reds game once. He SAT during the Anthem. He’s a former hippie and very much marches to the beat of his own drum. We’ve never discussed that, but that’s seared into my brain. And it’s my dad. Stickin’ it to the Man.
Myself, l truly get a rise out of the Anthem at a game. My daughter is usually my game buddy, and afterwards we usually head nod or comment on the rendition. It’s not an easy song to sing and requires some range.

November! And I've heard many people talk about how difficult the anthem is to sing.

Oh goody, l got the age card here. Which is pretty much bullshit. These are all microcosms imo. Big pictures are what concern me. We got a window here, and as much as a pain in the ass as it is l want to carry who l can through it.

Speaking of Nazi, there's plenty of you guys on this forum. Sorry I graduated from college and can form a coherent sentence without numerous grammar mistakes, the correct syntax, and while doing so outing someone that's clearly on Chris Hansen radar. "Nite" /s
Yet you don't know the difference between "You", "Your" and "You're"..
Michigan grad I take it ?

Hence the /s which means sarcasm Einstein. You probably hate him because of which side of the WW2 he sided on and the used of the scientific method. It ain't like the infowars junk stats "you" guy preach. Now trying saying that in a low Mr. T voice with some bass (which you may also hate because of the color of his skin) very slowly and try to sound out the letters "Einstein". Sorry that flew over your head in between the Lysol injections. It's OK if you run into some trouble, since we know you having a hard time reading and pronouncing things, my 3 years olds have the exact same problem. . Also I'm also a BearCat, what else do you know about me Nostradamus?

Wtf is a Gronk, why should I care? Should I be shaking in my boots while watching Ozarks? I not the one thinking of children getting sexual assaulted, that's not even something a normal functional adult brain would think of or joke about, but as usually you won't address it because like you fuhrer you Blame, Lie, and Deflect. Straight out of agent orange's playbook. That's on you Jared. That's on you, you simple minded fool. If you want to be a pervert keeps kids out of it. Like Nickers you are dumber then a bag of god damn mulch, but at least his the a god damn decency not to be a pedo about it. There's special place in hell for people like you. Anyhow I'm sure you'll post several responses rambling on and on, while having a solo argument with yourself, like the idiot before, but because I'll be watching Ozarks I'm not giving "2" fucks" about you, your detachment from reality, and self loathing. That's how little I think of you and you opinions. Adios!
sure thing Grimey
sure thing Grimey
This is your well thought out rebuttal for having pedophile tendencies? How sad. What does that even mean unless your using the English (UK) term? Next you call me a fag and I'll think you called me a cigarette. What an idiot.

Good convo, I bleed and Dutch. I feel this is what’s lacking.
do I stand at home for the Anthem? No, of course not. So why is it such a big deal when other people kneel, when I sit?
Does it feel different in a crowd when the Anthem is played, like I Bleed talks about? To me, absolutely. Not sure what it is, maybe being around thousands of fellow countrymen, I guess.

Baker is his own man. To me this isn't even news, it's something Mary Kay would shout out. Whether people are republican or democratic, we all like football. I could care less if players decide to kneel for the anthem or not. Now winning, that's something I consider important. And this is a new era, without Freddie Kitchens or the Famous Sandwich actor, Hue Jackson.
