Midweek speculations

Some speculation on the future of some teams from around the NFL. Almost all QB issues:
1. Ben R. is looking old decrepit lately. He has stated he wants to come back next year.....BUT...per what I heard this morning, he would eat up over 41 million in cap space next year. Should the Squeelers move on from him? And if so.....do you think they would go after a veteran FA QB? If so, who?
2. Jets look like they may have blown the chance for Trevor Lawrence. If that is the case, and they "only" have the #2 pick, what should they do? Draft another QB at 2? Stick with Darnold and grab another position at 2? Or keep Darnold, trade down for a slew of picks to bring more talent into a terrible team?
3. The Cam Newton show is not really going over well in New England. And BB is not a guy to sit around and wait on a QB. Should the Pats move on from him next year? Should they draft a QB? Or pick up a veteran FA.
4. Washington disciplined Dwayne Haskins today....and they obviously are not particularly thrilled with him. Do you expect them to move on from him? And what move should they make at QB?
5. I do NOT think that the Panthers are wedded to Teddy Twatwater at all, and could move on from him. What move would you think they may make?
7. Lots of speculation going on that Matt Stafford may be on the way out in Detroit, perhaps at his own choice. His name has been brought up for some of the places I mention above. Any thoughts on where he might land, if he does not return to Detroit?
8. And it is also possible/probable that the Eagles are done with Carson Wentz. He could be on the move...to where?
9. Could Mitch Trubiskey also be on the way out of Chicago. What could be his future?
10. Does Drew Brees retire after this year? If so, who takes over there? Winston/Hill?
11. Does Dak stay in Dallas? If not, where does he go, and where do the Cowboys go?
12. Could a QB controversy be in the works for the Raiders between Carr and Mariota?
13. 49ers activate Josh Rosen. Could there be a future there for him? Could Garrapolo's future there be in doubt?
Clearly there could be a lot of musical chairs at QB this offseason.

If BR shows the inability to go downfield, and to be so inaccurate as he has been the last several games...what choice could Pittsburgh have but to let he and his 41 million cap space take a hike. There is loyalty and there is gratitude, but there is also reality. Convince him to say Sayonara to his career, and then they could go get Carson Wentz. from Philly.
2. Jets look like they may have blown the chance for Trevor Lawrence. If that is the case, and they "only" have the #2 pick, what should they do? Draft another QB at 2? Jets need to trade that #2, if that is where they end up, for a whole slew of other high picks. Maybe a couple of 1s, 2s, and 3s. Alternate plan: get the best protection they can find for Darnold in that spot.
3. The Cam Newton show is not really going over well in New England. And BB is not a guy to sit around and wait on a QB. Should the Pats move on from him next year? Should they draft a QB? Or pick up a veteran FA.
Cam won't be there. Rumors are that the Pats may want to make a bid for Matt Stafford.
4. Washington disciplined Dwayne Haskins today....and they obviously are not particularly thrilled with him. Do you expect them to move on from him? And what move should they make at QB?
I suspect that they will want to move on....but Alex Smith clearly is not their future. They could draft a round 2/3 guy to see if that works.
5. I do NOT think that the Panthers are wedded to Teddy Twatwater at all, and could move on from him. What move would you think they may make?
Right now Panthers would have #4 pick. If Lawrence taken #1, and the if the Jets don't take a QB by either trading the pick...or taking the best OT, we know Cincy won't go QB....so they could go for Fields....if they think that is the right move.
7. Lots of speculation going on that Matt Stafford may be on the way out in Detroit, perhaps at his own choice. His name has been brought up for some of the places I mention above. Any thoughts on where he might land, if he does not return to Detroit?
See above: Patriots.
8. And it is also possible/probable that the Eagles are done with Carson Wentz. He could be on the move...to where?
See above: Pittsburgh
9. Could Mitch Trubiskey also be on the way out of Chicago. What could be his future?
He has been balling out lately. I think maybe the Bears give him another shot next year.
10. Does Drew Brees retire after this year? If so, who takes over there? Winston/Hill?
Maybe he should retire, but his arm does not seem as dead as say BR's. 11 broken ribs curtailed his arm strength. He may wait until training camp next season to decide. In the meantime, they still have Winston/Hill in the fold. Unless there is some Money reason not to keep all 3, they may all be there next season.
11. Does Dak stay in Dallas? If not, where does he go, and where do the Cowboys go?
I think he should go elsewhere, and may want to go elsewhere, but I think they get something done that keeps him in Dallas.
12. Could a QB controversy be in the works for the Raiders between Carr and Mariota?
Yes, it very well could. Why not? It may have been inevitable when they signed Mariota.
13. 49ers activate Josh Rosen. Could there be a future there for him? Could Garrapolo's future there be in doubt?
It could be in doubt, but by no means do I think Shanahan will be giving up on JG any time soon. And Rosen could be a stopgap, if that. He seems just insurance against injuries at the moment.
Clearly there could be a lot of musical chairs at QB this offseason.

So? What do you do? Masturbate 8 times a day? Put children in cages and watch them starve? Split rails? Shoe horses? Or something more useless like diddle around with your guitar which the number of people that will ever hear you is Bo Diddley?

I don't think Marriota is a threat to Carr, and I don't think Rosen is a threat to any of the 3 49ers QBs ahead of him and will once again be in a different uniform next year.

Looking at Sportrac- I don't think the Steelers would be as hard pressed dumping Ben in 2021 as Gipper opines. Looks like the Steelers prepaid Ben around $10 million this year for exactly that purpose... Tour can weigh in if he wants to, but BRs dead cap is $22 million, and if they cut him before X? date, his $15 million roster bonus goes away too....

No, what I said is that I think...or rather, talking heads on TV thought...that they would be hard pressed to keep him with his 41 million cap space numbers....along with his "diminished skills". I will just take your word on what it would still cost them to dump him.

Good stuff.
Of the QBs listed, I think Stafford is the most intriguing, then Wentz. If I was a GM those guys could make a difference. Mariota probably 3rd.
Big Ben, who knows. Looking at some of his latest quotes, he might consider hanging it up after this season. I don't know how a retirement of a player ( if that happens) effects a salary cap.

Nah, that had to be just your mirror you were looking at. You don't know what I look like.

Can't spell the word right? One of my favorite semi-fictional characters, Uhtred of Bebbanburg, has a favorite term that could apply to you: weasel shit. You looked in the mirror and saw something that resembled weasel shit, which is why these terms came into your mind.
Further...do you actually have something pertinent to this thread, which, after all is about Football. You know, football, which is the subject of this forum?

It gets complicated- and I'm certainly no expert in that regard. The difference between "cap hit" and "dead money".... What is obvious- the Steelers can pay Ben $41 million next year and let him ride off into the sunset in 2022 with no further obligation.... So maybe that's what those talking heads were talking about. That's a HUGE chunk of their cap space- but I'm thinking that they arent going to have to pay anywhere near that if they either cut Ben or he retires after this season. As of now the Steelers are near the bottom #29 in available cap room (actually negative) for next year.
https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/pittsburgh-steelers/ben-roethlisberger-3595/
PS- the next guy the Steelers could send packing to clear cap space is our old pal Joe Haden, who's due to make $15 million next year, and I seriously doubt he's worth top 10 CB money anymore.

No way pitt takes on Wentz.. Wentz may "want" to start and that's cute, but there is noplace for him. My serious guess is that he's the backup next year at Phi because of his albatross of a contract and after that he's out of the league. He's just not skilled at football.
So many good young QB's right now, and more coming in..
Chicago would be insane to waste more seasons with Mitch.
Panthers may draft a QB - but PJ Walker could also be good if given a legit shot.

Regarding Wentz. The Eagles are stuck with him next year, with a dead money number on the high side of $50 million. No team in their right mind will be willing to pick him up in a trade, been frequently injured, and confidence is shot.
Regarding Mitch. Boy was I ever wrong there. He's got career backup written all over him. The Bears wasted a lot of draft capital on him.
Whoopsie Chicago you could have had Mahomes or DeSean Watson. With 20/20 hindsight, I think most Browns fans would trade Myles Garrett for Mahomes straight up.

Just to comment on the Jets. I stick with Darnold, trade the pick for multiple picks, and dump that idiot of a coach. Has Darnold been put in a favorable situation?

Well....to be factual, the Bears are like 5-2 with Mitch as their starter this year. 2-5 without him in there. And Foles has been pretty bad when put in there. Had they played MT the whole way, maybe they would be in position for the playoffs. As it is they are on the outside looking in, though they are just one game from being in.

Of course I'm pulling for the Cleveland guy. But as you posted, why would they bring in Foles if they weren't 100% sold on Mitch?
I sure wouldn't trade Baker straight up for Mitch either.
