Midweek speculations

  • Good stuff.

Of the QBs listed, I think Stafford is the most intriguing, then Wentz. If I was a GM those guys could make a difference. Mariota probably 3rd.

Big Ben, who knows. Looking at some of his latest quotes, he might consider hanging it up after this season. I don't know how a retirement of a player ( if that happens) effects a salary cap.

So?  What do you do?  Masturbate  8 times a day?  Put children in cages and watch them starve? Split rails?  Shoe horses? Or something more useless like diddle  around with your guitar which the number of people that  will ever hear you is Bo Diddley?

Nah, that had to be just your mirror you were looking at. You don't know what I look like.

Can't spell the word right?  One of my favorite semi-fictional characters,  Uhtred of Bebbanburg,  has a favorite term that could apply to you:  weasel shit.    You looked in the mirror and saw something that resembled weasel shit, which is why these terms came into your mind.

Further...do you actually have something pertinent to this thread, which, after all is about Football.  You know, football, which is the subject of this forum?

Looking at Sportrac- I don't think the Steelers would be as hard pressed dumping Ben in 2021 as Gipper opines. Looks like the Steelers prepaid Ben around $10 million this year for exactly that purpose... Tour can weigh in if he wants to, but BRs dead cap is $22 million, and if they cut him before X? date, his $15 million roster bonus goes away too....

No, what I said is that I think...or rather, talking heads on TV thought...that they would be hard pressed to keep him with his 41 million cap space numbers....along with his "diminished skills".   I will just take your word on what it would still cost them to dump him.

It gets complicated- and I'm certainly no expert in that regard.  The difference between "cap hit" and "dead money"....   What is obvious-  the Steelers can pay Ben $41 million next year and let him ride off into the sunset in 2022 with no further obligation.... So maybe that's what those talking heads were talking about. That's a HUGE chunk of their cap space- but I'm thinking that they arent going to have to pay anywhere near that if they either cut Ben or he retires after this season.  As of now the Steelers are near the bottom #29 in available cap room (actually negative)  for next year.

    https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/pittsburgh-steelers/ben-roethlisberger-3595/

PS- the next guy the Steelers could send packing to clear cap space is our old pal Joe Haden, who's due to make $15 million next year, and I seriously doubt he's worth top 10 CB money anymore.  🙂

  • No way pitt takes on Wentz.. Wentz may "want" to start and that's cute, but there is noplace for him. My serious guess is that he's the backup next year at Phi because of his albatross of a contract and after that he's out of the league.  He's just not skilled at football.

So many good young QB's right now, and more coming in..

Chicago would be insane to waste more seasons with Mitch.

Panthers may draft a QB - but PJ Walker could also be good if given a legit shot.

Regarding Wentz. The Eagles are stuck with him next year,  with a dead money number on the high side of $50 million.  No team in their right mind will be willing to pick him up in a trade,  been frequently injured,  and confidence is shot.

Regarding  Mitch. Boy was I ever wrong there. He's got career  backup written all over him.  The Bears wasted a lot of draft capital on him.

Whoopsie Chicago you could have had Mahomes or DeSean Watson. With 20/20 hindsight,  I think most  Browns fans would trade Myles Garrett for Mahomes straight up.

  • Just to comment on the Jets.  I stick with Darnold, trade the pick for multiple picks, and dump that idiot of a coach.  Has Darnold been put in a favorable situation?

While I think Darnold so far is just a big oaf... He needs a team built around him... But I'm still not sold...

Well....to be factual,  the Bears are like  5-2 with Mitch as their starter this year. 2-5 without him in there.   And Foles has been pretty bad when put in there.  Had they played MT the whole way, maybe they would be in position for the playoffs. As it is they are on the outside looking in,  though they are just one game from being in.

Of course I'm pulling for the Cleveland guy. But as you posted, why would  they bring in Foles if they weren't 100% sold on Mitch?

I sure wouldn't trade Baker straight up for Mitch either.

The only guy I would consider trading for is Patrick Mahomes... I think Baker has done plenty to warrant being the Browns franchise QB for the next 10-12 years..

  • I know its proper, but does speculation really need an "s" to be plural?

Can we get a ruling from Mrs. Ag?

Yes, and is that really what you have to contribute here?
