That's not that much considering he is/was a QB. well in his nfl football world not ours.

Generally they catch on somewhere else as a backup or practice squad until they make it or just  fade  a. w. a.  y........

And how do you think OSU's Justin Fields will do in the NFL? Seems to me to be a near clone of Haskins. I'd sure be very leery of wasting a pick.

I have major concerns about Fields... When he makes mental gaffs... They are costly... I just don't see him being a successful NFL QB..

  • So is Fields already OSU's most successful NFL QB?

Actually Art Schlister may have been the best of them all until he blew it himself.

    PIttsburgh's starter next year?

That actually crossed my mind... He would probably have to restructure his deal laden with possible incentives... I think hes guaranteed 1.9 mill or some shit like that...

Throw in a couple more Purdue boys, Lenny Dawson and Bob Griese, and that's a pretty good five.

And going really old school,  you have Arnie Herber, Wisconsin.  and Benny Friedman  Michigan....both Pro Football Hall of Fame QBs.   Not considered in GOAT conversation, but still HOFers.

Nevermind-just saw Zombo's post above referencing the two I had, Griese and Dawson.

Michigan was a total dead zone for nfl quarterbacks years back, I remember when Dan Dierdorf (a Michigan guy) saying that on ESPN's MNF before the recent ones....... namely Brady.

  • Here is the breakdown  of  QBs that are either in the HOF  or sure, or near locks (#) to get in  per  Conference......as the conferences are aligned today.   Power 5 then others:

    Pac 12

Stanford:   Elway;      UCLA:    Aikman and Waterfield;    Oregon:  Fouts and  Van Brocklin;      Washington:  Moon;    Cal:   Rodgers#

    Big  10:

Purdue:   Dawson and Griese and Brees#;     Northwestern:  Graham;     Michigan:  Brady#  and Friedman.     Wisconsin:    Herber and  Russell Wilson #

ACC:  Duke:   Jurgenson  and Ace Parker;   Kelly:  Miami;     Pitt:  Marino;     Louisville:  Unitas;     NC St:  .    Rivers#.....also half credit for Wilson#

    SEC:

Kentucky:  Blanda;     Alabama:   Namath and Starr and Stabler.     Georgia:   Tarkenton;     LSU:   Tittle;   Tennessee:  Peyton Manning#;    Mississippi:  Eli Manning#

    Big 12:

Texas:  Bobby Layne;     TCU:  Sammy Baugh     Oklahoma:   half credit for Aikman

    Other:

La Tech:   Bradshaw;     So. Miss:   Favre;    Notre Dame:  Montana *;    Navy:  Staubach;     No. Iowa:   Warner;     BYU:   Steve Young;    Miami  Oh.  Roethlisberger#;     Columbia:  Sid Luckman;    Colorado College:   Dutch Clark

    * Despite their play this year, I still consider Notre Dame as an Independent in football.

Big Ten and SEC are tied here with 8 QBs each.

    Pac 12:  7

    ACC  6.5

    Big 12:   2.5

  • He didn’t have enough Reps at OSU he needed another year.

The year he played he didn’t have to make reads in the pocket.

    The owner drafted him

The last coach didn’t want him.

They played him too soon (should have sat a couple years)

    Hes immature.

    I think he has talent

  • It's hard to believe that tOSU had him rated higher than Burrow. Looks like Haskins is a total head case.

Burrows injury at OSU set him back in that competition

I hope Burrow can fully recover from his current injury he was the real deal for the Bengals.

Is he going to be injury prone his whole career?   I don't know why, but he seems frail.

One thing with OSU, as they switched from the QB running spread to a more passing based spread, is that they scheme to get great separation. Add on to the fact that their WRs all run 4.3s, and you're throwing to guys with yards of separation. That limits the need to make any real reads.

It was brought up with Tua too. "NFL Open" and "Bama Open" are two different things.

Well, I think that is a thing with every college QB.  Generally DBs in the NFL are going to be much better, and have much tighter coverage than college DBs.  It just depends on how well someone adjusts to that in the pros.  Haskins clearly has the skills.....he just has to develop the proper aptitude. He needs to mature, and get better at the mental game.

One thing though that  Ohio State QBs  do....or should have the advantage in, is that every day in practice they face the best college DBs that the college game produces.  OSU  currently has  8....that's 8  DBs active in the NFL that were taken in the first round of the draft.    They don't have that many first rounders in the league at all other positions combined:

1 QB  counting Haskins...though he is one day inactive!   1 RB  Zeke  2 OL,    and 3 DEs:   Heyward and the Bosas.

Many of us on this same forum were down on his prospects of Burrow staying healthy during the year (because of their line) and also because the Bengals decided that running the ball was optional this year.

He needs a blind side protector and a running game.  He should be fine.
