JJ Watt to Cardinals

  • I’d love to have Watt.  Can I say it again again and again. He’s got a great attitude...definitely rub off positively on that side of the ball ( I think we need a leader badly on defense).

He’s not a starter.  You put him on a pitch count.  Draft another guy early to rotate in with him and learn from JJ.  I can’t think of a better scenario.

For the cap people...1 year deal.

We need a better front 4.  Ogunjobi isn’t coming back- who knows what we do with Richardson. I’m not counting on Vernon with an Achilles at 30+.  And our D coordinator expects pressure from the front 4 with little help.

Issue is, you don’t pay someone $17.5 million to be on a pitch count. Again, if watt was on one a year, lower base deal with incentives sure. But in a year where cap is going down and we have 3-4 key dudes to re-sign. One year or not, that doesn’t make sense. even one year dudes mess up abilities to sign players long-term. He would have to take a serious restructure to even consider it.

fuck no.....way over his prime....this would be another blockheaded move like the willie mcginnis....scott fujita....jamal lewis moves.......like one of the posters said, we would be paying for his past performance....he's cooked....too many injuries..

If I recall, Jamal Lewis played pretty darn well for us in the time he was here.  And McGinnis wasn't so bad either.

No, but they were contributors.  Lewis was still on his form for a couple of years:  1300 yards is damned good.

And if you bring in a veteran FA ....at no real cost except money  (no players, no picks).... that could be a win/win.   Or at least a "no big loss" deal if the player does not work out.

I think this team this year could have benefitted from that this year in the LB unit.

We will probably turn over and lose some vets- Sendejo, Vernon, Goodson, Joseph maybe even Ogunjobi.  We have 9 draft picks on top of a younger roster.

We could use some vets on one year deals.

I think they tried late with a guy like Malcolm Smith.  At the start of the year, I was hoping they would sign some vets at certain position groups (insurance against covid).  I think the FO thought they would get a little more out of Mack Wilson too.

  • JJ stokin' things a lil...

J.J. Watt sends another interesting tweet about Texans' personnel move (msn.com)

The Texans have made several personnel changes this offseason, and reports have indicated Watson and other veteran players are not pleased. One of the moves was firing equipment manager Mike Parson and his staff. Watt took to Twitter on Sunday to praise Parson and say, "Anybody would be lucky to have" him.

On the surface, that looks like merely a nice endorsement from Watt. But if you have followed the situation in Houston, you have to wonder if Watt was doing more than just praising a former Texans employee.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Sunday that Parson and Watson are close, and Watson is not happy that the Texans let Parson and his staff go. The same is likely true for Watt.

I would do a 1 year contract with him... At a reasonable price...  but I'm sure he'll be lookin for that twilight haul in....

  • Worth a shot?

Image result for i'm gonna take my shot hamilton

  • I definitely get the sense JJ is going to take less money to play for a winner. No way he leaves 17.5 million on the table if he didn’t feel that way.

take a look at 2020 stats, though. The man was seemingly healthy (played all 16) and had below average stats across the board. That being said? As I said in the other thread, a 2 year deal with opt out after year one, and incentive laden may be worth a serious look.

And, I wonder if he would like to  go up against his brother  twice in the same season.    (this, of course, being cognizant of the fact that despite the fact that he might like to play with his brother....that team has absolutely no way to sign him under their cap restraints).   Next best thing:  play against his team  twice?

I like something like this, maybe 20 million for two years, 12 million guaranteed something like that. He had a lot of pressures this year and with someone like Garrett on the other side his QB sacks would probably be way up over 2020, assuming he stays healthy.

  • While an edge has much more to their game then straight stat stuffing, it's worth pointing out how god awful the Texans were this year.

Hard to get pass rushing opportunities in the 2nd half when teams are running the ball on you to bleed clock with a 3 TD lead.

  • True that this past season was his first in 5?7? where he played all 16, he remains pretty good.  Not greatly better than Olivier Vernon.

New site linked for this forum.. sports injury predictor for JJ watt suggests he's expected to miss 5 games to injury next year. Also lists his entire injury history.

  • Play against his brothers? lol...

Yeah he'd be opposite Derek for about 4 plays twice a season... what an inducement.

    Hey, Gip...

Double or nothing for that $100 you owe me? I'll take PTG and you can have the other 31 teams.

  • I'm interested in the Watt wants to win where watch...

Going home to Green Bay with Rogers is his best landing spot imo.. a mere minus -28M over the cap

I'd really hate the Steelers... a mere minus -30M over the cap

stay tuned & Why not us ?

    Good possibility be sure...

  • When I watched JJ play this last season, he looked like an average to slightly above average DL. Those injuries have taken a toll on him and he isn't the same player anymore. No way would I trade for him. I rather pay OV to come back for one year then take Watt.

He was 8th in qb pressures. He wasn’t average.

Your expertis at cullionocity is on display.

But  if it is a wager that you actually want to make an agreement on:   I will do it  for my usual wager:    a hot fudge sundae.

Now...you see this is  how this works, and to quote Denzel, I will explain it to you like you are a 4th grader, which may be apt:

You have invited me to make a   wager on a particular matter. (you wanna bet?)  Now, I have proposed to accept your invitation  to make a wager (OK, I will bet) .... but I have rejected your terms (that were never in place in the first place)  .....and I have proposed the alternate  terms of that wager:   a hot fudge sundae being the stakes.

Now, it is up to you to accept and agree to those terms.    If JJ Watt signs with the Steelers, you win the hot fudge sundae.  If he signs with any other team, I win it.   If you do not accept (as I did not on that other thing) there is no wager, no contract. No one gets anything.

See, now, this is a pretty simple legal construct that maybe even you can comprehend.  (maybe 60/40).

The ball is in your court
