  • I don't put much stock in strength of schedule but help me understand how it is possible that both the Steelers and the Ravens have a lower strength of schedule. Is it because there are two games that are scheduked in advance that are different from the teams that we play? Even though the other two were scheduled after the end of last season? If that is the case why doesn't the NFL schedule all four games after the end of the previous season?

I was just about to ask the very same question. I haven't looked to see if Thanksgiving is involved or something like that.

Every time I look at the schedule I have the same reaction: brutal. I really hope that Mangini doesn't need a winning record this season in order to stay on board. Hopefully it is enough to see real progress and more close games.

It is strictly a rotation-based schedule. I'm pretty sure the NFL adopted it starting in 1978 when it expanded to a 16 game schedule, and they have altered it through expansion.

  • Its sweet that the Saints have the 6th easiest schedule.

  • It seems to me that we play the same 14 games as the other teams in our division. With only two teams being different based on our record the previous year. So my question is that if the Browns finished in last place in their division how is it that they have a higher strength of schedule than two other teams in their division?

Is it Because they play the Browns twice?

Does anybody know the details of the calculation off the top of their head?

Ha, I didn't even think of that. That's got to be it!

  • i wouldn't put much stock in the strength of schedule either. the strength of schedule can't factor in things like injuries, a good player having a bad season, draft pick busts, etc. it is what it is, a pre-season estimation that's mostly based off of what a team did last season.

alot of the opponents on the browns schedule look tough now, but let's see how they look right before the season opener and also mid-season.

its because they play the browns and the whole NFC West.. none of which had good records last year..

Is it Because they play the Browns twice? Exactly. The calculation is pretty simple- just add up the won-loss record of the opponents.

And before anyone complains about the Browns schedule, the Bengal's is murderous. They not only get the Saints and Patriots (like the Browns do) but because they finished in first place last year they get the Colts and Chargers instead of the Chiefs and Jaguars.

It is probably because they have 2 games against the Browns who were only 5-11 last year, where the Browns have 2 games each against them whose record was much better.

  • Both teams (Browns and Bengals) were 4-6 outside the division with similar schedules.

That is an interesting statistic that I had no knowledge of. What better stat can you think of that demonstrates the importance of winning your division game. Thanks for that

Not to mention the "schedule' in so far as opponents was set maybe 5-6 years ago with the exception of the 2 wildcard games against teams of similar record the previous year.

Face it...The steelers are good, cincy is good, and balt is good, and we have to play them twice.

If they sucked and we were the reining SB champion, we would have a easy schedule.

The schedule was only posted through this season 7 years ago, but if they follow the same schedule, here are our opponents through 2017 not including the two opponents not determined until the season is completed.

good take I already posted that we are moving forward ..............but considering the schedule.........8=8 would be a positive result
